Is the 'Shroud of the Avatar' for the DIY enthusiast??

The reason I ask this is because although I realize that online crafting is a means to an end in terms of financial gain or rocking that exclusive kit... The Shroud of the Avatar Video, which oddly includes a medieval plug in disc cutter, seems way to focused on the actual making of things to the extent that I can only see it appealing to folks who don't have the access to a nagging partner whose agenda for home improvement is never quashed.

Personally I fall into terrible fits of stroppy depression every time there is the suggestion for a bit of decorating or woodwork with the mindless drudgery of sanding and wall prep ... I am filled with utter dread by a game which suggests an online life of the same ...whilst wearing armour and a cape that itself could be extremely dangerous in an open walled workshop next to a furnace.

This game should be called ... Wife Strife Online ... Facing any number of abominations from Satan's boney horde is like strawberry picking compared to this perverse digital reality .... having said that strawberry picking is pretty gash too.

    I think it's fantastic. Those dedicated solely to crafting and believe me theres a lot, will love tinkering away at their work benches, providing goods for those who are more into the adventuring side of the game. It worked extremely well in UO and I hope it's emulated in SotA.

    I see what you mean. But they've said that the crafting system as it exists now is only 10% of what it'll be like in the final game so I wouldn't worry too much they are going to make things a lot more intricate and fun as opposed to tediousness. Right now crafting is kind of put on hold while they work on combats and some other major parts of the game that need some attention.

    Also want to correct you on the game genre, it's not medieval fantasy.

    It's renaissance era electropunk (further note, NOT steampunk) with a strong fantasy leaning.

     

    You also wont be forced to craft of interact with crafter. While it's entirely possible to go through the game doing nothing but being a merchant crater, the reverse is also true. Yes the best gear will be player crafted gear, but you don't even need to necessarily buy that gear from the crafters to get it. When crafted gear gets sold to NPC's, lost when a player dies or any otherway, it doesn't cease to exist. It gets added to the monster loot tables for that region. So after the game has been running for a few months it will be extremely common to kill and dragon and loot is and find a skeleton wearing masterwork armour crafted by another player in it's belly. Or kill a bandit on the road wielding an enchanted sword that was imbued with special properties by a player alchemist. 

     

    As for player crafters dressing for the part... That's up to them. Appropriate workshop threads are certainly available in the game. :-P
