Zenimax said they are going to do a Darkness Falls style zone and anyone who played DAoC will tell you that Darkness Falls was awesome. Only one faction at a time could enter DF so this made it an extra incentive and it was definitely worth it. Image if a strong set of PvP gear was only able to be crafted inside the Imperial City
The rumor so far is that the imperial city (middle area) of Cyrodiil will be ESO's style of Darkness Falls.
There's nothing hardcore in this game but even if there was the hardcore crowd is already in EvE online
Ive played Eve For 10 years. How much CONTENT have they added in that time. A bit yes but for some reason we keep playing it. Same shit another day. But i still give them money each month.
With ESO if they do that same half arsed job as CCP with the already great game they have created with ESO ill be happy.
You may not be, but then again you can choose to not give them money. Its as easy as that :-)

Never played DAOC, but there are obvious similarities with GW2' WVW. That's not completly bad. It depends on wether or not zerging will be an effective tactic in ESO.
Zerging will allways be an effective tactic in any mass PvP game..
It depends on the fact if there are other effective tactics... and other things to do in these areas except Zerging..
The answer to that last question is a big Yes...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

yeah someone wins, so lets buf him, great idea !
it must be great fun... for the one who wins .
What will be even greater fun for the emperor will be the knowledge that 2 entire factions will be hunting him every time he sets foot in Cyrodiil !
There's an achievement point for killing the emperor...
You can do veteran leveling in all the other zones => extra 2x 100 hours
Then you can do veteran dungeons
Then you can do Adventure 12 man modes (mini raids)
Then you can do Cyrodill
Also, don't forget this game is the easiest base for zenimax to build upon. The darkness falls idea (which is goddamn amazing, believe me), more areas, it's all within reach.

You got a million other games where winning doesn't mean anything because we don't want to hurt any bodies feelings.
Well there is ONLY one aspect other than PVP which i often over look because it is never done nearly as good as need be.
I think this question would be an awesome question to ask developers because i would love to hear their BS answer lol.The good part of asking that question is that developers might actually catch on that they have almost no creativity in their game designs.
Aside from this posters accurate assessment on pvp being a long term goal, the ONLY goal in EVERY game have been gear progression and that is it ,that is all these developers can come up with creativity , the same idea over and over.
Good thing some of these producers make 100-500k salaries coming up with that same one copied idea of gear progression.I wonder why developers bother to pay someone big salaries when they can't think for them selves and no creative ideas.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Agreed
on topic, my vision of the long term appeal for ESO was PvP, oh wait that's just been nerfed.
Ok well I am also looking forward long term to the interesting crafting system, oh wait that's just been nerfed.
Oh well never mind my other long term appeal is exploring and grinding my own xp, both alone and in a group so I can enjoy the game experience with my friends, oh wait.....THATS just been nerfed too.
Never mind I am sure they will have new stuff in their cash shop on a very regular basis, THAT will obviously be the long term content vehicle moving forward.
Umm I don't count recycling the other factions quests into 50+ areas as new content which is what all veteran PvE areas up to the first adventure zone generally are.
ESO immersive? Sorry no. I found it the least immersive game I have ever played. The community - there is none. The game is the same cliché over and over.
ESO immersive? Sorry no. I found it the least immersive game I have ever played. The community - there is none. The game is the same cliché over and over.
The game will go F2P in 3 to 6 months.
Long term appeals to this game - NONE.
This is a compilation of your posts from the last 3! days. Have fun reading them, scratching out your eyeballs and killing yourself by the time you are done.
Might I add, as having played eso for 25 hours, 50% of your bullshit are plain lies, any player can spot your bullshit from miles away. You are constantly complaining about all games except Guildwars on this forum, breaking stuff down, spitting out bullshit, you seem to never stop. I can't even begin to explain where all this is coming from.
here it is:

There is NOTHING new or innovative in this game and now they have wasted the good name of the ES franchise on a mediocre piece of garbage.
Now I can see ESO as a farming game where people will grind the same mobs to get the best gear. What a waste of time.
I want more freedom - there is none in this game.
More meh additions to a meh game.
Too much on rails.
It is a dumbed down MMO.
ESO is a mediocre MMO
This game is not epic at all.
I hit more glass walls in this game than even GW1.(2 times even)
this not an MMO really - it is a Solo game with PvP added
I wasn't impressed with ESO combat - no feedback and boring (key spam)
Nothing in those dungeons is remotely new or exciting.

ESO is dumbed down, like it or not.
This game is a huge grind.
I played ESO as long as you have in beta. I was giving an honest try because I love the other ES games and have played them. My biggest problem is they wasted the ES franchise to make this game - they could have really have innovated the whole MMO genre with little things (less on rails, better combat, more unique skills, etc), but instead they want to cater to everyone and made this game boring as hell.
You like the game - good luck. I don't - I found TSW (it took me a long while to figure out the TSW skill system it was that unique) more innovative than ESO ever was (and I didn't like that game due to artwork, etc).
Yes, please continue your never ending wave of fucking whining. Make sure the whole fucking world knows how much YOU hate it. EVERYONE has to know! What's going on brah, you having some kind of issues ?
Well there is ONLY one aspect other than PVP which i often over look because it is never done nearly as good as need be.

I think where ESO is on the right track here is the control of castles/forts/etc by guilds which I think may hold enough bonuses that the guilds will want to hang on to them. Also, if they introduce a "darkness falls" style zone then that's just added incentive for holding onto land and strategic attack and defend on territory.
This is where most MMOs have failed in their attempts at longevity of the PvP zone. No incentive for holding onto territory so the most advance is made by letting your foes take your territory and then retaking it. Becomes a zone of flip flop where players will prefer to not defend and becomes an avoid conflict zone.
Much more fun then the point/gear grinding progression.
For the OP:
As I learn more about the adventure zones I'm thinking I can spend a lot of time there as well. I kind of relate it to the EQ Planes (up to Velious) with the exception of Boss Mob in its own instance as well as dungeons accessible in there as well. Being a majority of open world style and not instanced (with the exception of some of the dungeons) I think that might be a draw. I'm not a fan of instanced raids.
Same old story. Nothing interesting here. The long term goal is the PvP - which mind you is a direct copy/paste from GW2. So if you want to PvP in such format just buy GW2 and save yourself 15$/month.
Otherwise it's a single-player story driven game with monthly fee. Where did I see this and how did it end? I won't tell you - it's a secret.
I'll tell you this advice though - if you are going to make a monthly fee MMO that isn't call WoW then you better aim to give best possible players interaction sandbox with lots of politics otherwise nobody will give you monthly fee to play single-player game. History confirms my words.
I'll try the game when it goes free to play. K?
Oh, yeah there's one thing that might save them - it's the Playstation 4. And if they succeed and enough fish start to pay them then expect less and less PC MMOs in the near future. Which actually might be a good thing and we see althogh less MMOs for PC but to be of highest quality.
I thought ESO had DAOC rvr, not GW2 wvw
It does. The poster(ramsay) is just a troll to troll ESO and spread some hate and misinformation.. just look at his post count, and how many he made in this thread and how many posts are about that ESO is shit in one way or the other.
And this will be the main long term appeal of this game. AvA.
Sure, enough, especially casuals, will enjoy the pve, the storyline, twinking and all that other stuff, as it was with DAoC, but the majority of core players will stay because of AvA.. very similar to DAoC. And time will tell how good long term AvA will be in comparsion to DAoC.. but one thing is crystal clear even now.. it is a lot better than GW2 WvW for different reasons.
I like it,. it has a good TES story. I like the dungeons, the crafting. Just about everything so far. I also like the team doin the game. ZOS. I think the are doing a good job so far on the game.
This comming week will tell me more about the game. They have done quite a bit of tweaking. I'll also wait for the next beta to see how these changes affect me.
Long Term: I think its a good, solid MMO. for now. Ill give them my $15.
PS why the hate? You dont like the game, fine. Post your critique and move on. To go around and keep posting the same hate stuff in EVERY thread I just do not understand at all.
Most def not the Avava there's no incentive to do it so after a month or so people are going to get Really bored with just running back and forth and not getting anything meaning for doing it, you don't even get anything as a guild when u control a keep other than your name poping up when a player hovers over that keep and all you have to do to get one is run to the Gm in the keep and talk to him , that games just sub-par and lack luster tbh

Coffee milk! Looked your post history.. only negative post bout eso in eso topics.. You dont like it.. but why post it in every eso topic? Hehe
When it comes to MMORPG's I hardly look at major long term appeal.
I go with what I enjoy at that time and see how it evolves.
If I happen to play for a long time it means I am realy enjoying the game. Never planned ahead to be playing SWG for years but not because I looked at it's long term appeal but because I looked at at it at the moments I played.
Potentially the PvP. Tough audience though. If it clicks it will "self-generate" activity, if it doesn't it will all end in tears. And that can be as much about who plays as it can be about the game.
As far as PvE goes based on the last c. 5 years of games most will be gone withing 7 months. Nothing to do with how much content there is simply a case of people getting bored and moving on. Having a sub tends to encourage people to "blitz" the content but with or without a sub the majority will move on. (There will be a hard core of course who stick around for a while.)
In today's MMO market, 7 months is about the equivalent of a "lifetime sub", lol
I think your analysis is spot-on though. The interesting thing will be how large the "hard core" will be.
Well the OP did say said long term!
And I can't recall anyone disagreeing when someone has said that most will be gone in 6 months. (I used 7 because 3 and 6 month subs are common.)
And I agree that how large the "hard core" will be will be interesting.

The "balancing" or "corrections" seems rather ham-fisted at the moment I'll agree with you on that but perhaps they will swing the pendulum back. Seems a bit much that they want to leave only *one* viable gaming option.
but again, I don't know if it will be enough to satisfy a content-hungry MMO crowd.
That is the problem with those theme-park single player MMOs like SWTOR and The Secret World. There is no possible way to make and give so much content to occupy a player - especially those with lots of free time and let's face it MMOs are mainly for people with free time - for more than few months.
How much content they can add every month? Few quests that are going to be finished for few hours. Will it be enough for players to give them 15$ / month? No. For reference you can check The Secret World.
Who is going to play this game for raids or PvP for what it is. Those that like to grind dungeons are already in WoW - this crowd won't change to ESO or any other game just to do the same thing when they already had grinded items for years there. Those that love the PvP in this format are going to stick with GW2 because it's really good and it's free / B2P. And the silly fact is even the hardcore lore TES world players won't love it because of all the lore being mixed with controversy.
There's nothing hardcore in this game but even if there was the hardcore crowd is already in EvE online and Darkfall. It's not 2003/4 when the MMO market started to open up. It's 2014 and if you want to get huge share you need really something unique and exceptional. Sadly ESO is not. I can promise you that this game is going either F2P or will die in 12 months. In best case scenario maybe B2P instead of F2P.
Still it won't "fail". It will make TONS of cash for Bethesda. With this box price and a year of monthly payments they will have huge profit margin. It's just that I don't value it as high as they are asking me for and I know I can play it a lot cheaper but later. Until then I have tons of other games to play - so not a big problem.
GW2 PvP being good is a matter of opinion. It's decent at best for me.
As for Themepark versus Sandbox, that's not what this thread is for but I will say this...sandboxes can get just as boring as themeparks over time. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
I'm not here to argue if this game will fail, if theme is better than sand, or if ESO will have enough content.
I answered the OP, this game will have Adventure Zones and PvP. There may be more, I don't know.
What I do know is I'll play it until it's no fun for me then move on. I just don't get why some people get so butt hurt over video games. It's a fucking game. I play to relax and have fun. I'm not here to analyze if ESO is making money or if it appeals to the masses. I'm going to play it with my spouse. We had fun in the beta. We've purchased the CE because we have some disposable income and felt it was worth it. If people don't like they style of game or the payment model, I could give two shits and a fuck. If the game goes f2p in a year, I really don't care. I know that EQN L isn't for us. We tried it and demanded a refund. Yeah, it's sandboxish, but it's minecraft with decent graphics. I know we won't be playing WildStar. We tried it. It's WoW with a bit different combat system. We've decided that ESO fits us best for now. I guess we're idiots and what not, eh?
Don't fucking care. All I know is I'm going to play an Imp DK. I'll also play the other classes and races when I get the urge. Perk of pre-order you know is any race in any alliance.
So people can cry and wine about this and that, but at the end of the day, who gives a fuck? I'm going to play a game and have a bit of fun after a long day of work. I don't think I need anyone telling me what's fun for us.
I'm also going to be playing Star Citizen when it comes out. The amount of detail and work they are doing is just phenomenal. I'm glad I worked hard in life, earned a good job, paid well, and have disposable income so I don't get my undies twisted every time a video game comes out and doesn't do exactly what I think it should. It's so liberating to just sit down and be able to enjoy a game and life in general. Stress is the number one cause of death you know.
LOL, look at me. Rambling on and on. Take care.
Well said! I am in your position more or less, Wildstar was too grindy for me, the cartoon style did not appeal to me. I love GW2 however, but got bored after six month and moved on. It was worth it.
ESO will be good, I loved all the ES games, so i doubt the DEVs will do terrible. Any game will be fun at the start, it will surive on content releases, Zeni promised 4-6 weeks update, hopefully they deliver.

A tall order... I know.....
