(Poll) How many copies sold in the first 6 months (PC only)?

With 3 weeks to go for early access, i guess it's about time to make this oh-so popular poll (hehe).

So, how many copies do you expect TESO to sell in the first 6 months? Remember, PC version onyl. Why? Because i feel the console version is abit more complex to figure. Skyrim sold more on consoles, but they're not used to mmorpgs the way pc players are IMO, not to meantion sub fees. So, let's keep PC, please.

My personnal guess, between 2 million and 2.5 million.

I do believe it will sell fairly well, so I guessed 2 - 2.5M, but I doubt a large % will stay longer than a few months.

It's probably do a little better than swtor however how many copies sold at launch isn't the thing that matters, it's how many of those initial players that stay with the game will be the factor that determines how successful this game is.

If ESO sells around 2M in the first 6 months that will put it on par with SWTOR, not so ?

Whilst I'm a big fan of this game, I don't believe that the Elder Scrolls IP has the reach of the Star Wars IP. Not even close. So I'd be really surprised if ESO outsells SWTOR as a PC title.

Keep in mind it's competing with consoles as well, console sale will be another 8 million on top of pcs 8 million

I would expect similar numbers to SWTOR in terms of initial sales, circa 1.75m - 2m.

I anticipate the sub retention rate settling at 300 - 400k subs after the first three months.

Lol thank you for recognizing my ability to appeal to everyone :-)

I'm going to guess is will sell between 1 and 1.5 million

With more than 50 votes, most people guess between 1.5 and 2 million. Interesting. Must be because of SWTOR has other posters commented and i have to agree.

The real question is will ESO provide as many hours gameplay and more importantly, as much re-playability as Dark Souls 2?

    I think not.

If they run an advertising campaign like World of Warcraft had,  I would say easy 10 million in the first year.

Skyrim alone sold 20 million copies.

Well, they're definitely cranking-up the marketing it seems...

Rumour is everyone in this coming beta weekend will be allowed to "experience the benefits" of the digital CE and Explorers Pack. image

Steam helped the sales? I think consoles sold more copies though. 19% is only PC share.

There is to much competition in PC MMO land.  I dont expect them to sell more the 2 million PC boxes this year,...  However the new generation consoles dont have a real big seller.  It might sell 3 or 4 million copies on each of them.. 10 M coppies in total in 2014 would not surprise me..

hell, i even think it will boost the sales of the new consoles..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Is the OP touting for a job in a MMO finance department? In the first six months, that's a hard call. But there will be enough people for me to enjoy myself, so quite happy there. :)

    Skyrim tells a story:

    • Skyrim sold so many copies at its launch price;
    • then - and I believe this happened "worldwide" Zenimax reduced the price (their % allowing retailers cut the price)
    • Skyrim sold further copies at a bargain basement price / as part of Legendary.
    This shows that price matters.

I seem to recollect that Skyrim sold about 10M before they cut the price (and assuming it was cut everywhere and at the same time). Across PC, 360 and PS3.

Essentially ESO's day 1 price is the same as Skyrim - variations due inflation plus platform and country differences but - basically - they are both full priced games. ESO however has a sub - which "sort of" makes Skyrim more expensive. Same price on day 1 - so some will buy and play for 30 days - but more expensive going forward - so some won't buy at all.

So if Skyrim sold c.10M across all platforms at its launch price the fact that price does matter suggests that ESO will sell less than 10M across all platforms.

As Lord.Bachus said: there is a lot of competition for PC mmos. People play different platforms and different types of games.

Factorin that it is not a holiday; summer is near; lots of competition as Lord.Bachus says (people play different platforms and different types of games) and .... they will be doing well I suspect if they match SWTOR. Which will be less, I suspect, that they will be hoping for.

If you're offering... but keep in mind i'm pretty lazy when it comes to work.

Almost 100 votes in and looks like most people expect somewhere between 1 and 2.5 million.

Who and what the hell is dark souls 2.

Been playing mmo's for 15 years and never heard of the game LOL.

So your point is not valid.

    EDIT : Zero Hype

My guess is 2 million on the under side.  How many sub is the real question.

Skyrim sold over 20 million copies....but I think more realistically about 2m

I'm not really informing myself about these trends to have a real opinion.

But I'm guessing it will be in the top 5 compared to other MMO releases. Top 3 even maybe.

The potential is huge. IP, well polished MMO, good reviews etc
