If this game was F2P, then sure, but because it's sub-based - No bueno.

No problem with the mount, just take away the speed boost from it and make it cosmetic...problem solved.  Players can even pay 17K to boost the speed = to in game mounts.

What is this speed boost you are talking about, have you been on a mount yet? They are slow as hell and you have to level them up by feeding them. It cost gold and time to feed them.

There is a T-shirt for ya.

Yeah a mount in the cash shop, its the end of the world. Soon we will have a max level toon for $60, whats this world coming too...

But the subscription is for what? Oh and YES, its all about that lone single mount in that itty bitty teeny weeny cash shop that's not going to sell anything else that should be covered by the subscription.

Its going to sell the account upgrade to get the unlock for the imperial, a horse and probably some other cosmetic crap.

    +1.

New players don't get 17k gold very quickly. It's one heck of an advantage to have at the starting gate because you paid $80 rather than $60.

Get a better job I guess, not sure what to tell you. The last few MMO's I have purchased Digital CE all came with a mount. I don't know man, you are out numbered in your protest. They are selling like hot cakes.

I'm perfectly happy with my job, but thank you for the career advice. :)

    Right on.

Hey guys, I heard they're selling a "Fus Ro Dah" /emote for $24.99.  I've changed my mind.  Cash Shop is okay by me.

Hell yeah, who the hell wants to waste 17k gold and time on a mount you can get for a few bucks. I don't see this edge though, there is no mounted combat and the thing is slow as balls.

It's 15% faster than not having one, I believe. It's a mechanical edge.

The question, as it's been pointed out, is whether or not it's a Mountain or a Molehill - and I'm fine with saying this is a Mountain. I believe a pay-to-play, subscription based game selling mechanical edges for an additional premium - no matter how slight or temporary - is a huge no-no.

I am a fan of this game but this is a step in the wrong direction.  Because once you open those doors it wont stop.  More things will be added, rare mounts that would be much better to put in the game as maybe rare spawns or something instead of Cash Shops.  I really just hope they don't go down the wrong path,  3 things recently bother me: Any race Any alliance (not that big of a deal though), where do the add-ons stop and now cash shop.   I have absolutely loved the beta but man I am a little concerned now.

Technically, if you have to go to their website to order the horse, they are still doing monetization outside the game.  And you do have all of the game just with the sub.  You just don't have a particular cosmetic skin for a horse.

Even if we interpreted what he said in the most negative way possible, it still doesn't mean he lied.  As long as he meant it when he said it, by definition it isn't a lie.  So unless you have mind reading powers...

I'll tell you these guys have no clue about how to handle P.R.

That I can fully agree with.  Possibly the worst PR team I have ever seen.  If ESO had Wildstar's PR team, they might be unstoppable.

The purpose is to make as much money as possible.  Sub and cash shop makes more money than sub or cash shop.  It isn't rocket science.

For now, I'm going to say... Who cares!!

WoW has a cash shop, and it sells off mounts, too.

The only time this will become an issue, is if it goes beyond cosmetics. Then this game, and all of its effort, will be for naught. Regardless how good or bad people felt the gameplay was.

At this point, it's worth pointing out: Mounts work differently on WoW than TESO.

The cost of a mount in WoW is literal pocket change for their respective levels, even for new players. The actual "cost" is getting the Riding skill, which costs about 20x more than the actual mount for their respective levels and *CANNOT* be purchased in the cash shop.

TESOs mounts aren't pocket change - you don't get them for awhile if you're a new player. 17k is nothing to sneeze at until high level.

If TESOs mounts were like WoW, it would cost about 500 gold to buy it in game - and that's all you'd get from the Cash Shop that's technically mechanical. I don't think folks would be complaining about that.
