Every beta weekend I've been in for the most part has had a big patch claiming hundreds or thousands of bug fixes have happened, but I've got to tell you, I'm experiencing more bugs this weekend than perhaps any other. An ungodly amount really and many of them are serious bugs. Lot of people talking about this on the beta forums and in game too. It's concerning. I've beta tested a lot of games and only a couple come to mind that seemed to have this many issues this close to launch from my memory and things were equally as rough at launch for those games. Add to that the last minute starter island skipping decision that doesn't seem to be going over well with people and that's another issue they need to sort quickly.
You can tell yourself "it's just beta" if you want to, but I've played enough betas to know this isn't all going to magically get better in 2 weeks. And a lot of mmo's over the last couple years have launched a lot less buggy than what used to be the norm (RIFT, ARR, Neverwinter, even SWTOR) so having a really buggy game at launch isn't just excusable anymore. I like the game quite a bit but I'm a realist here - I think we better brace for a rocky start. And for a game that has already been the target of endless negative media and attention, I don't think they can really afford a super buggy launch.
Personally I think this game needs a few more months in the cooker, but I'm sure it's too late to go back now.

my favorite one is "the PTS is months ahead of the beta client" No it really isnt.. after 2 beta weekends back feedback they went to work on mob collision and skipping the starter island, redoing the tutorial zone etc... and it went into testing last beta it wasnt activated because it was still getting worked on and this beta it went live because it was ready.. all stuff that was on the current PTS... The PTS would be nowhere near months ahead and to be honest i dare say t he client we're playing on now this beta will basically be the launch client.
Granted there was close to 5million people playing apparently if not a bit more for the weekend and that brings in a slew of problems on it's own, problems that wont be there at early headstart or launch because i dare say there wont be 5million people playing, a lot of people playing this weekend were just there for the hell of it.
but holding onto threads that the PTS is months ahead of this weekends client is crazy.. this weekend aint a beta or a stress test, it's a marketing campaign to show off the game thats all.
IF it was a show off marketing campaign "got to market", it was counter productive. Ive seen countless threads where people are getting their money back and returning their pre-purchase..
not everyone would have logged in to actually try the game out.. more troll n see what it's about and not only that but even less of the people would have reached level 10 to get into cyrodil there was something on the forums.. or the website or something saying active players had reached 4.9 million or something yesterday, people were yammering about it in game.
not all marketing is good marketing
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
Neverwinter "launched" with a dupe that ruined the economy in the first month, certainly ESO won't be that bad. What's concerning is that I'm running into bugged quests in like the level 8 area. That would be understandable in higher level areas but the low level game should be well polished at this point.
Yeah that was a serious issue but it was 1 big deal bug - for the most part that game launched very smooth. I've seen more bugs in this build of ESO than I've seen in a game this close to launch in a long long time.
+1 here
I was somewhat shocked to see that. I think that after X Years of Development, the Starter Areas up to lvl 15/20 or so, should be polished as Hell. But getting stuck in your Mainquestline on the lvl 10 Step is a NO GO. Not saying it all must 100% Bug free, it's still an MMO, but Showstopper and so forth can not be.
I was soooo looking forward to this last Weekend, and now i'm a bit unsure how the Start will be. I know, i think as well all or at least the most of us, that in 14 Days can happen a lot. Also, if done right, we get a "broken Build" with things to Test and the "fixed Version" is running elsewhere. No Problem at all.
But this one.....it makes me a bit sad tbh. It simply drove me away for that Weekend. When you have 4 Q's in your journal, and all 4 are broken, then what? But i still like the Game and all what comes with it. I just hope that these things are ironed out within the last days which are left.
We will see and as so often, time will tell. At least we can cry out loud at the Boards then *lol* (not that will change something ofc)

I am unhappy that this beta is far more buggy than the first major beta several weeks ago.
Game breaking bugs like the main quest lines not working are a major concern 2 weeks out from launch.
I am playing as a level 7 Templer after 5 days, doing the quest Tormented Souls where Drusilla Nerva will not spawn. This is a level 6 quest that basically stops the quest line.
Ridiculously small bounding boxes, think 3 or 4 pixels wide just to get a radish. Iron ore clearly visible from 60+ meters, with a massive bounding box. Jute barely visible at 20 meters and a bounding box 1/4 the size or iron ore.
There is so much more mechanically wrong with this, but it is also so tiring just remembering and wording it all. If this game was playable before or this is all new content that has just been added and the bugs haven’t been worked out yet. All I can say in the voice of Captain Hindsight, they should have been testing this game at this scale over one year ago.Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
Yeah. I think there are alot of people out there that don't realize how that exploit in Neverwinter literally killed the game before it even started.
I experienced it first hand and honestly the developers made the wrong decision to not do a complete rollback as they were lazy and afraid of the backlash from people that spent money "mostly lazy", yet the backlash from people that spent money is what bit them in the ass anyway cause you had people that got tons of exploited items and currency for free when others had to pay for it.
Neverwinter might have had some game breaking bugs but ultimately they just made a terrible mistake, didn't respect their consumers, sided with the exploiters and offered a dumb ass "I survived Caturday and all I got was this stupid shirt" which was named after the exploiter that duped cats............*hangs head*............seriously man I extend a middle finger to those people and it really just pushed me ever so further into a hate for this genre in general cause of the lack of professionalism. Worst MMO launch in history honestly.
Lets definitely hope it isn't that bad and the only way it could be is if they have the same kind of ignorant (repeat IGNORANT) people running it.
True. I'm trying my best to stay interested in the PvE questing but it is very difficult. I'm not sure I can even make it to lvl 10. I've played this style of themepark so many times I don't think it is possible to be thrilled doing chores for NPC's. And from what I can gather the quests are not really optional if you want to progress in a realistic amount of time. The zones that I've seen are not very big. It feels nothing like a seamless virtual world. Markers everywhere, people telling you where to go and what to do all with no risk and ultimately no reward. Maybe the later zones are much better and open/large without as much of a quest focus.
I hope the crafting and character progression can make the game much more interesting than the zones/pve quests...but I'm skeptical. I do want to try the PvP before launch but at this point I can't justify the cost if the PvE is this dreadful. The combat and the mouselook control is very good, just not enough good at this point to overcome the negatives.
Truth.
I might try the game a year from now if it offers a 2 week trial. ESO should have stuck to their guns and not try to remake the game this close to launch. They should have been concentrating on fixing bugs and not on pleasing the critics.
The amount of bugged quests that cannot be completed is very disheartening. People claim that the launch build will be vastly improved, but I have beta tested enough games to know that this is wishful thinking and nothing else. I'd be hard pressed to name one game that I ended up buying that has been this riddled with bugs 3 weeks before it goes live.
It's a shame, really, because the game itself to me is incredibly fun. I won't cancel my preorder but I expect a very rocky launch and an unhappy subscriber base. Given the rough state of the game they cannot afford to further alienate subscribers with unnecessary cash shop drama. To be honest, it would be best to generate some good will and give everyone who ends up buying the game some in game token of appreciation because ESO is buggy as hell.
I would agree. This beta is much more buggy then the earlier betas. 2 weeks to go. Can they fix most of the bugs? I would be amazed if they do so.....
Are they still in the process of fixing the phasing issue..... I would like to group with others. It's called an MMO
I'll be playing the game anyway. I hope for the best.

Hell yes. I had the 10th or 11th bug stopped quest just now, this weekend.
Horrible. Just horrible.

Also if most of those people were first time players they will be lucky to reach level ten by the last day of beta. Remember all those first reviews which came out were based on low level play because it took them a beta or two to reach higher levels.

I didn't get a chance to play it this weekend yet, probably will tomorrow, but last weekend it had a lot of bugs still, some that I thought would of been gone long ago, considering the stage it is in. They can be fixed before launch, but it is odd that they haven't been yet, at this stage.
I thought it was one of the rougher closed betas I had played, bug wise recently. Nothing super game breaking, but a lot of annoying stuff, that made me have to keep redoing UI stuff and other things.
This one fixed a few of the old bugs, but seemed to introduce a handful more for each it fixed. Plus many of the old ones are still there as well.
I agree, I'm not sure why but this beta weekend has actually been worse than the previous few. I'm seeing more bugs and so many are gamebreaking and insanely frustrating. The thing that worries me is that the quests that are bugging (around level 8-12 from my experience) have been bugged for months and yet they still have yet to be fixed. When is "Restoring the Guardians" going to work? It makes it so hard to enjoy the game and level through smoothly without becoming increasingly frustrated.
Despite all of this, the PvP for me was really holding my interest. I haven't had this much fun in PvP in ages. Well, at least that's how I felt two weeks ago. Now I'm not so sure as it has becoming very buggy and at times, unplayable. Keeps disappearing, being constantly dismounted (which is terrible thanks to the long run distances), jittery players and map bugs galore. I really enjoy the game, if everything worked smoothly, I'd be crazy excited but now I'm just apprehensive about release. I don't want to cancel my pre-order but I can't imagine these issues being fixed in two weeks (or maybe the game getting even worse in two weeks). Let's hope this is not the case, I'm tired of getting burned by promising MMOs.
Finally, other experienced beta testers talking some sense. The developers are pretty much idiots. The game should've been done 2 months ago and at this point they should've opened it to the public/media as a demo of what the full game is, not a buggy beta. This was an extremely bad move and it seems they lost many subscribers due to the incompetence of the development team (or over-confidence in an unfinished product).
"This is a beta" doesn't apply weeks before launch, if the beta is still going right up until launch then most likely "what you see is what you get." The fact that they're still throwing in new stuff in builds (most of it was requested to be fixed over 6 months ago) instead of just polishing up things is all you need to see. Also, in development terms there's not much you can do in a few weeks or even an entire month or two unless you're crunching away with 18 hour days on a project this big. People don't understand how long coding takes, especially with looking for what's causing issues. It can take days just to find the line of coding that's causing ONE problem and way longer to completely fix it (this is on small computer applications, not HUGE AAA titles).
This is one of the major reasons why I don't pre-order anything or buy it the first day it comes out.
