Perpetuum: Single Purchase Augmented by Optional Purchases Announced

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Perpetuum site has been updated with big news for players and potential players. The team has announced that, beginning in April, the subscription model for the game will be dropped in favor of a one-time purchase with optional microtransaction purchases made. Perpetuum will be priced at $28.99.

The subscription model will be dropped in favor of a single purchase when players join the world of Perpetuum, and augmented with optional in-game purchases of previously unavailable services and cosmetic upgrades. The price of the single and final purchase of the game will be comparable to 3 months of subscription time in the past: 28.99 USD/EUR (VAT included).

In anticipation of the influx of new players, we will suspend our 15-day trial and free reactivation options on the same day. The payment model change combined with our Steam launch is a disproportionately large step for us compared to our recent years, and we want to make sure that we can provide the highest possible quality of service for the players who purchase the game.

Thought this two dev game died ages ago... oh well, the changes reek desperation so it should be soon enough.

Played this a couple of years ago and it was a poor mans EvE clone with robots on ground.

If you are a Star Wars fan, why not try the Star Wars The Old Republic?

I'm pretty excited about this. I like the game a lot, but didn't feel it was worth the sub fee with such a low population. I hope this helps them out.

pretty excited too, very nice game needing just an higher stable playerbase to flourish.

Quite the opposite: They keep developing the game, we got some great content patches, and besides the low population (which will rise with payment changes and steam release) I prefer it over EVE a LOT.

WASD movement and terrain based combat, research oriented industry, terraforming islands and setting up colonies are just some features to name that make it more interesting, and all that developed by just a handful of devs.

I could have said the same about EVE back when it only had a population of 600 after 3 years. But look at where it is now. Give it a chance and don't be so close minded.

Excellent game, just in need of a higher player-base to be interesting. Hopefully this will change with the new model and we will be back to large scale battles.

Best of luck. The game world and concept was original, even if the mechanics had been done before.  I'm sure I will end up back there, melting an Artemis or ten. Mostly my own.

They really have done a ridiculously good job compared to many other developers with more employees.  I personally would have preferred something a lot closer to Mechwarrior combat, but that's just me.  I see mechs (robots) and I think it needs to work like Mechwarrior.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Some people like eating at the Keg or the Olive Garden. Others prefer Micky D, others opt for the little 30 seat boutique style neighborhood bistro.

Perpetuum is more in line with the small, boutique MMO. They aren't after 80K login in and half a million subs. They don't want to be the next WoW. If you prefer a community where you can actually remember people you meet? You will like Perp.

One more sleeps, then Perp gets "steam" rolled?

This game has a number of problems, but I think the main one is that mechs are slow and distances are long. That turns it into a boring time sink. It's the main problem because it's not solvable (unless there is some really major re-thinking).

The advantage of space games over perpetuum is that you can hyperspace / warp-drive etc.

The advantage of fantasy games over perpetuum is that you can use a mount or teleport etc.

When I played perpetuum, there were other problems, such as the speed nerf of the fastest robot race (so all robot races play too much the same - so it gets boring quicker), and the larger mechs seemed wimpy (and even slower!).

    This is long outdated.

There are Speedlanes, deployable Teleporters and Spark Teleports in Game nowadays. Spark Teleports are similar to clone jumping in the "other game". deployable teleporter can be used anywhere and you have different sorts, either to jump within one island, or you can use teleporters where you can jump  straight to other islands.

Seems you haven´t played for a long time.
