The Xsyon team has announced a brand new server for the game. In addition to the PvP-only "War" server, a new PvE-only "Peace" server has been launched to expand the audience for the game. In an interesting move, all data has been mirrored on both servers allowing players to take part in the action on either.
Otherwise both servers are identical. In the future, the server will develop along slightly different paths, with the Peace Server focused on rebuilding the world in an apocalyptic setting while the War Server will encourage players to engage in conflict.
Players are allowed to maintain one character on each server.

It says data is mirrored, so when you want to PVP you log to the pvp server and when you want peace, you log to the PVE server.

What is Xyson like anyways? I've heard mixed things about it and I've heard a lot of people say that the developers don't really care much about the game, and it's more like something for them to make a little money off of.
Just curious as a good sandbox game would be nice.

A PvE server that doesn't even have PvP flags seems kind of weird to me. I've just become accustomed to PvP being something I can choose to engage in or choose to avoid as I see fit. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out and how many people play Xyson on the PvE server.

It sounds like the data will immediately diverge though. New players will not have their data mirrored to both servers, so if they want to get started on both servers, they'll have to do double the work. Existing players will not lose any of the effort they've made when the new server starts up. Which is an interesting way to start things off. I would have expected the PvE server to start with a blank slate. I wonder how much of what was already setup was because of the PvP nature of the game, and is now nonsensical?

I just tried this game for the first time today, after seeing this and realizing I'd never heard of it before. So I log in, create a character and get started. Sort of. I have no idea what to do. It just plops me in some random place with no guidance or any sort of information on where to go or what to do. Clicking on the tutorial under the help menu provided me with nothing more than "coming soon." So I ran around just looking for anything to do for around a half hour. I FINALLY come across something that moves. It's a marmelot. OK, well the bar at the bottom says I'm hungry, so I should kill it and see if I can eat it. Tried attacking and it ran away, so I chased it. It ran around a giant rock, and on the other side was an NPC. Finally, maybe I can figure something out here. And I did. I found out that it took about 3 hits to turn me into a ghost, while my 5-8 hits did about 15% damage. So I respawn, in the same place I started. Ran in another direction for about 5 minutes before I said "f*** this" and quit.

I can't believe they're trying to get $30 for the game and $10 a month. It feels like it's still in alpha, but MMORPG.com says it was released over 3 years ago(?). I almost feel like they should pay me for the wasted time, it was that bad.
Sounds a little like starting Minecraft for the first time where a 4 by 4 dirt house is an epic achievement the first time you manage to build one.

The real tutorials are community made, and on youtube, in wikis, etc. It's a game of discovery and a sandbox. Like Minecraft, you can build unanticipated things from defined architectural elements, but it's expensive and takes a village as it were. Rushing around headlong with no info in a post-apocalyptic world with no equipment, friends, or knowledge/skills is a recipe for squish.
That's why you should love this game.
I am seriously considering going back now that I could avoid the Darkfall pvp culture. Not my flavah. Suck people, mean.
