I m 36 years old and i m a mmo addict since EQ1 (EQ1 / EvE / WoW / RIFT my favorites). I m playing Wildstar beta since last night and I would like to say (what i never imagined i would think of this game)...I AM HAVING A BLAST!
Client performance is superb.
UI is well designed and fully functional.
Combat, target system and animations are excellent. I would never imagined i d say that for a non tab target system.
Graphics are great and within my taste.
World feels alive and well designed.
No loading screens.
Minimum amount of bugs ever seen in a beta.
Quests are not something new but i m the guy that don't cares much about them. They just do their job.
Its really fun. Humour all over the place.
I read that housing / dungeons / raids are a strong aspect of the game and i m looking for them (at least for housing & dungeons in first place).
I also have checked crafting and its deep enough, at least deeper than most mmo's in the market.
Anyway, if the game continues to surprise me like this, then it will be my next game.
I never thought Wildstar would be so fun, polished and quality game.

Confused here. He/She means Carbine right?
Current: BDO
Looking forward to: Crowfall & Chronicles of Elyria
Of course they do.
Turbine, Carbine, Porcupine, Combine or Turpentine what does it really matter, they really are enjoying Wildstar.

Yes, corrected
Got to be kidding....game is poorly or not optimized at all yet....
Glad you enjoy the game anyway
I tried in 3 betas and it´s just not for me. Zero appeal to me.
Dislike artwork....cartoony graphics...animations... and gameplay feels exactly like a revamped WoW.
I´ll pass on this game.
Bingo.
Yep, same here OP. Our guild was looking for a new game after we decided not to play ESO. Tried out WS on a whim this weekend, though we had only been following it out of curiosity.
Boy, were we surprised.
This is a GAME, made by people who love GAMES, for GAMERS. It is obvious all over the place how much love and attention went into making it.
I haven't seen so much care and detail packed into a gameworld since LOTRO.
The design and art style is also hip, which I never thought I'd see in an MMORPG. One of our guildies said it wasn't cartoony, but that you were actually playing inside a cartoon.
The combat is also super fun (what GW2 should have been), and there is so much to do from landscape quests, challenges, faction grinding, crafting, paths to all party size dungeons, raids and PvP. (The 10v10 Battlegrounds are incredibly fun).
I hope this will be our home for years to come.

While the lack of replayability makes me a little nervous, I agree that it's amazingly fun. I'm not sure how it gets confused with WoW, because trying to find your way to the top of challenging locations or completing scavenger quests is -not- what I think of when I log into WoW. The client is pretty well optimized (although my GPU hit a stupidly high temperature -- 100C! Not sure what was up with that) and response time is -perfect-.
I'd like to see some expanded replayability-addressing features, but no one gets everything. For a themepark game, it hits on almost all cylinders.
Edit for clarity: By replayability, I mean specifically in the questing sense. Something beyond what I call the 'Themepark 5'. I know its not easy, but we really do need to expand on the types of quests we use in games.
I really wanted to like Wildstar. I loved the videos, and loved the humor. When I actually had the opportunity to play the game, I was disappointed.
I accept that it's most likely something I look forward to in a game, and not a design flaw. When I enter a virtual world, I want a sense of epicness..of history. With Wildstar that was missing. Everything was a joke or a quest to run around and catch butterfly's (really, it was a timed event).
Even when starting a character in Wow, you get that sense of an epic world. This was completely lacking in Wildstar for me. For those that like it, I wish you the best. I just have no interest in playing an arcade style run around and catch butterfly's in so many seconds, then do this jumping puzzle, and have the game call me Cupcake every time I level.
In incorporating the humor, I think they left something out. The game doesn't have a soul for me....or if it does, it's the soul of a 10 year old.
Good luck guys.
OP i am glad you are having fun but really age got nothing to do with. I mean we all still enjoy watching animation movies don't we? i do.
I like Wildstar too, but the contrived questing takes the wind out of me. I'm doing stuff, its engaging... but I don't know why the hell I'm doing it (and those tiny ass quest boxes sheesh)... then out of no where
CHALLENGE STARTED
It didn't bother me at first during the first weekend I played. This time, I stopped playing after I realized I was at the level cap and haven't really had any desire to go back for more.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pretty much this.
Yeah, since my favorite MMO's are EVE, DAOC, and even L1/L2 I'm pretty sure I'm not really the target audience.

Tried both ESO and Wildstar and had more fun in ESO >AvA< not questing xD
Tough Wildstar was a blast to play !!! the client was extremely bad optimized.
Even my videocard and CPU heavely O.C. coulnt pull more then 40 fps on max....
ESO on ultra pulled 60fps and 40 fps in massive zergfests.
Still much work to be done by Carbine studio to optimize their engine, and they have plenty of time to do that.
My biggest concern as a pvp player in Wildstar was that massive ground shit all over the place.....i mean at some points when big groupd clashed into each other it was one massive spam of AoE and you could make out wth was healing or damage :P
I dint find it attractive to play that way.
But that doesnt mean it sucks, its their way of presenting something new, and i dint like it.
Tough i had alot of fun and i think the game is good, its nothing like WoW even tough people call it WoWstar -_-
Honestly i think ESO will fare a little better as it has AvA with big sieges and have quite a bit of fans that might buy it even if they dont like playing mmo's.
Long term i think both games go the way all mmo's go and thats free to play.
There seems to be no escape to retain players long term these days and all mmo's that launched after WoW went this route to keep it alive or shut down servers.
But both mmo's offer qaulity altough both games have some flaws i realy dislike
To each his own !
This is not a WS vs TESO thread. I m just posting my experience with WS beta. I was negative towards WS and it surprised me in the most positive way. I wasn't expecting much, but WS changed my mind. All in all i have a very pleasant and fun experience playing the game.
As it concerns TESO (referring to it because many did it already) i played during past week beta and for me was a HUGE disappointment in every aspect. So i don't care anymore for TESO and i don't want to compare it with WS in this thread.
I just wanted to share an unexpected (for me) positive surprise from WS.
That's all
I love Wildstar but I have to disagree as well with the OP on the optimization of the game.
Running an i7-3820, Gigabyte Super OC 2 GB 680, and on 2x 500 GB Samsung 840 Evo in Raid 0 and while some zones I am getting 40+ FPS.. some of the later zones will dip down to 23 FPS. Its not unplayable but not great either. Battlegrounds and Arenas are prefectly fine but the early versions of the Warplots were pretty bad.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
I was having an issue with the performance compared to ESO also, but I adjust the settings according to this excelent article at TenTonHammer, and I found the experience much more enjoyable!

The client performance is infact, Horrid.
