Guild Wars 2: Tournament of Legends Announced

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

ArenaNet has announced the Guild Wars 2 PvP Tournament of Legends that will take place on April 26-27 in Europe and on May 3-4 in North America. Winners will receive an in-game reward in the form of a legendary weapon and a host of other in-game rewards. The blog post details the map rotation for the event so participating teams can study up on the tactics needed to win.

Format: This tournament will be a best-of-three, single-elimination tournament, with the finals being best-of-five. We’ll open sign-ups to everyone, but only 16 teams per region will make it into the Tournament (subject to change). Each region will compete on separate weekends.

Map rotation: This won’t be your standard map rotation, because we will be including Temple of the Silent Storm. As such, we’ll have determined rotations per round.

  • Round 1: Forest of Niflhel, Legacy of the Foefire, Battle of Khylo

  • Round 2: Temple of the Silent Storm, Forest of Niflhel, Legacy of the Foefire

  • Round 3: Legacy of the Foefire, Battle of Khylo, Temple of the Silent Storm

  • Round 4: Forest of Niflhel, Legacy of the Foefire, Battle of Khylo, Temple of the Silent Storm, Legacy of the Foefire

Tournament prizes: All prizes are per-player

  • 1st place: Choice of Legendary (Eternity excluded), 2,000 gems, 2 Black Lion Weapon Tickets

  • 2nd place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Choice of Precursor, 800 gems, Black Lion Weapon Ticket

  • 3rd and 4th place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Black Lion Weapon Ticket

  • 5th through 8th place: Choice of Gift of Magic or Might, Black Lion Weapon Ticket

Read more details on the Guild Wars 2 blog.

Woooh! /sarcasm, I mean, do even the dedicated GW2 players even care about Team Vs Team PvP? It seems like the weakest element of the game, oddly enough since it was GW1s strong point. Granted I feel its more at fault of the combat system being pretty bland, particular for a competitive scene were you want things to have a higher skill cap (something lacking).

I'm sorry but no matter how you much you try, you can' push Team based PvP upon players when your game executes it poorly.

    lol?

How can a company be so damn stupid not too do a GvG tournament?????

When Wildstar and elder dragons online arrive tons of EU guilds gonna leave gw2 because of ''no chance for further support GvG, Nor any goals in the game'' quoted by one of my favourite commanders in the game.

every player in the end want a Milestone(kinda a Goal something that makes the game worth playing except having a good laugh in teamspeak with your team)

with no such goal WvW will die nobody wanna play same thing everyday with no point in it when there is new game with same style and new maps maybe even a community and company that support that play mode then everyone will jump ship :D

So how can a company be so damn stupid not too try to save face? no GvG?

I remember when Arena net was my favorite development team. Guild Wars 1 had an awesome focus and every year brought exciting and fun new ways to play. Random Arena was my FAVORITE past time. I was super bummed out when it wasn't in the GW2 beta, I figured "Surely, they'll re-add the elimination styled gametype soon right?" lol no. Instead of adding more types of PvP and actual GUILD BATTLES to a game called Guild Wars, they keep shoveling out this Living Story garbage that's killing the game. Now they're wasting time doing some dumb tournament and like @Purutzil said, the combat in this game is awfully boring and thus the PvP is about as lackluster.

Well i stopped playing 8 months ago, for me it was:

    a) no goals in the whole game- everything you did was poor and meaningless. YOu started to ask yourself "if theres no goal, why do i play it?"

    b) PVP: how could they do that to us?  Why couldnt they just adapt gw1 pvp and refine it to the top?

    c) the classes felt weak and boring- say hello to lvl 5 skills till lvl 80.

So people want to revert to the game style of GW1? No dodging, jumping, or equipping of skills on the fly? Really??

Sigh. I was optimistic about the announcement of UI fixes and trait system changes, but I see they are still wasting time on the instanced PvP/ Esports garbage still. I really wish they would just get the hint on this stuff and realize the Esports thing is over.

Love GW1 and love GW2, but it just has too many flaws and not enough effort to fix said flaws at this point.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
    Have played: You name it
If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

Judging by how games for small scale pvp pop almost instantly id say more people care about small group based pvp then the naysayers want everyone to believe. You add the incentive of avoiding a long ass grind to get a Legendary and watch how many more people sign up and "care".

Just my opinion and i dont even play the game as much as i did when it came out.

Same tired ass troll ammo. Same skills from 5 to 80 huh? How the hell do you have the same skills from 5-80 when some skills cost 20+ skill points not to mention having the previous skill lines opened(5 skills per line some skills worth 1 point some worth 3 or more)

There are plenty of reasons people can hate this game. Anyone who really spent anytime playing it would know Weapon skills = nothing compared to class skills/utilities/elite skills.
