Tbh none of those games really took to me, i'm still soul searching for the next addicting MMO besides when i first played pre cu SWG, after that, vanilla WoW before they babied the game.
yeah i feel like this is wow vs the rest of the mmorpg community with threads like this and how often they seem to be poping up now. This game reminds me way to much of wow 2.0 . I really did enjoy wow though but I think that ship has sailed for me personally.
I was really hyped for Wildstar, I love the art style, music, humor and housing, but in the beta I was bored from the start, it felt like WoW and looked dated, their engine makes everything look flat and cheap. I will be buying the soundtrack, and hope it becomes a animated series as Wakfu did, and support Carbine's efforts but the game itself didn't feel like a step forward. The UI, colours, npc interactions/quest texts and controls kept me from immersing, and after Skyrim and other game with more realistic tones I realize now that my standards for immersion have changed. I will be playing ESO, and no one is more surprised than me. Though I still think Zeni are still too prone to beginners mistakes in handling this game.
Yea, this was pretty much the exact opposite for me. Ive followed Wildstar for well over a year. I was so excited by all the things they were trying to do, and provide gameplay for everyone no matter what your playstyle was. I even have posts on this website, praising Carbine for offering so many options, including small and large scale for PVE and PVP alike. I was probably most drawn in by the Warplots, and getting back into PVE raiding again.
Unfortunately, once I got in game, I realized that none of that mattered. It wasnt the cartoony graphics for me, it was a mixture of a bunch of different things. First being the sci-fi setting. Im actually a huge fan of sci-fi. Turns out my love of sci-fi in movies, TV, and books, just doesnt translate into games. The setting of the game left much to be desired from me. Also, all the classes felt the same. All 6 are built first and foremost as DPS classes, with 3 having a splash of tank thrown in, and 3 with some healer. The many different types of telegraphs was gimmicky and I did enjoy it, but in the end, combat just wasnt what I was looking for, and all 6 classes played the same. Thats not saying its bad, because its not, its just not for me personally. There are tons of people that will love it.
ESO on the other hand, if you look back at my past posts, I was always putting down pretty hard. It really doesnt offer much to the players in gameplay options. You have pretty much a solo questing PVE experience, and then Cyrodiil. Sure there are dungeons and vet dungeons, but it doesnt have any of the large scale PVE (Adventure zones may be coming at some point after launch, not yet announced), or any small scale PVP options like arenas or battlegrounds. With such limiting content, I was totally against the sub model for this game, and thought it would be best with a GW2 B2P model, since the content offering was very similar. Not to mention, most TES fans are used to the box price, and nothing else (minus some DLC) from the single players games.
Turns out I just wanted to throw fireballs. After playing both, the setting in ESO really grabbed me. I love the lore and the way the quests present it. Im not one of those that skips quest dialogue, just to rush to end game, I enjoy the journey. Its something Wildstar doesnt provide. The twitter based quests (140 characters or less) of Wildstar doesnt ever fullfill my need to know why they want me to kill this or that, or why I should spend my time running to the next NPC. And even though Wildstar has many gameplay options, most of them dont open up until you are already max level. You have to grind through all the rest of the game, just to get to what you really want to play. It makes the whole system feel like disjointed pieces and never ties all the pieces into a larger game with lore.
So I preordered ESO. Im gonna stick to my fantasy setting. Im gonna hurl fireballs, and shoot arrows, not laser guns. A mage shouldnt have guns..... Turns out that it is the game as a whole that matters. Even though I know Wildstar offers me more options, I just ENJOY ESO and I couldnt even find myself wanting to log into Wildstar. Everyone has their thing that grabs em. I think both games are good. And I wouldnt flame either. They just are not for the same audiences. Its just like TV, some people like Westerns and some people like Horror. They are two different things and appeal to different people.
It would seem that many here are insecure with their inner-child (or they don't have one?). Wildstar is set aesthetically for being a more cartoony style, but that in no way makes it immature. Many NPC's will curse, talk down about each other, and even backstab one another. Leveling up has an announcer in guitar blazing yelling "*Bleep* ya! You just gained a level!" Although self-censored, everyone knows damned well what's being said.
And art style may or many not be your thing, but polish should be. Wildstar has some very crisp textures in Illium, the starting space ship, Daradune, Aroria (sp?), and every other zone that I've visited; contrary to that , TESO is lacking in polish in it's textures and many look very stretched to a point that no amount of AA could fix the pixelation of it. There's no real good lighting in TESO either, as all surfaces have this glossy sheen over them that causes excessive bloom (even the dirt!); and opposite to that, Wildstar has got it's point-based lighting down really well and does scale perfectly (Outpost M-13 is a great example of this where you're in areas of near total darkness except for the flashlight on your space helmet...that gives atmosphere to the situation, which is that parasitic aliens are popping out of people's bodies and eatting other people!).
Whatever, I might hope back into this thread to give a few other points on my opinion later in the day, however I'm out for now.
Originally posted by reeereee I went into both betas thinking Wildstar was a pure WoW clone and ESO was going to be awesome with graphics for adults and daoc pvp... then I actually played them both and found myself having far more fun Wildstar. I blame it largely on ESO's questing being so boring... or maybe I just tell myself I want something different than WoW when what I really want is more WoW... Is Wildstar still a WoW clone? Yep. But hey! Wildstar doesn't come out for three more months and I can afford to drop $80 on ESO.
You'll never know what you like until you actually get to try it. Unfortunately I didn't like either of them so just waiting for the next thing to come out.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope something does pique your interest in the near future.
WildStar is fun for the first couple of times you play it. I had a lot of fun in the game till about level 20. Then it gave me burn out, the same burn out WoW gives me.
You might like it the more you play. But the trend I see is the more people play, the less they like it. I am not surprised this was you first beta weekend.
This happened to me as well, at level 20'ish everything just felt a bit heavy and I just stopped playing for about 2 weeks. Then back again and battered on. At around level 27 when you get your first T4 everything just fell into place.
I'm now level 43 and just love this game. It gives me a feeling of wanting to build my character, progress and explore, - and the fast combat feels amazing.

Good thing that you explained to everyone its actually SWEARING that makes WS mature.
And while were at it id rather play good unpolished game than ultimately bland polished one. Hell, one of the best games i played were unpolished as games get.
What the 'haters' of this game don't seem to get is...
Wildstar is a Satire.
The example people keep giving is 'Holy shit cupcake you just leveled up!' when you hit level two. If you didn't get that this game was a satire AS SOON as it said that for you hitting level two... Then there is very little hope for all of us.
On the other hand Wildstar was a positive surprise. i wasn't expecting much, until the last 2 days i m playing the beta for first time. I m not going to say much, i already did it to another post, i ll just say it gives me the right feeling. It makes me feel what i want to feel when i try a new game. On the contrary TESO felt so wrong in every aspect.
I don't think WildStar is shattering any records for originality but it is a high quality game and it's a lot of fun. It did feel good. I had high hopes and felt like it delivered and then some. I also think ESO is just bad - bad idea for a game and there's just no way it can be good. It's weak ES and weak MMORPG combined into a steaming pile.
Where I could barely stay interested in ESO at all and didn't care whether I had beta access or not, I played WildStar incessantly, was bummed out when the weekend time ended, and can't wait to dive in and try more stuff during the next event.
I'm still not 100% convinced of WildStar though - need to do instances, see how content flows thru all levels (is there variety enough and freshness enough vs repetition with different graphics), and I will forever maintain that making what is basically a single player game with some optional grouping and endgame isn't much of an MMORPG compared to the glory/early days when MMORPGs were actually MMORPGs and not just single player online games.
WildStar does at least pony up some additional content for people who want to group beyond the obligatory microquantity of outdoor group quests and optional instances. The adventure stuff is pretty cool.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
For me Wildstar picked the best elements from many good MMOs.
The amazing "cartoony" art style and responsive gameplay of WoW.
The dodge system of GW2.
The "Star Wars" music style, in so many places(personal opinion, not all like StarWars Music style :P).
Probably the best animations i've ever seen in an MMO.
Events/Public quests(a bit like WAR).
Amazing Humor.
The whole game has its own quality universe(lore) and its feels like you play a part in it.
This game is not a WoW clone, it just has the best elements from all the "successful" MMOs.
And this "skillshot" system, damn addicting.
Can't wait the launch, preordering today after i tryed the beta, cya on Nexus
Played wildstar a bit this weekend during beta and meh, I didnt care for it. Glad you liked it, but it was difficult to follow and too much going on in each area.
What the 'haters' of this game don't seem to get is...
Wildstar is a Satire.

Are you going to repeat that ad infinitum? I don't think any of the major complaints I've seen aimed at the game was even remotely based on the fact that people don't get it, just that they said it wasn't fun. You can't say "It's fun because it's satire" and make it stick.
"Ugliest gear in an MMO" does seem to be catching though.
Originally posted by Fendel84M I already preordered ESO, but I am still on the fence about Wildstar. I just can't seem to get into it! On paper it looks and seems amazing, but when I actually play it... not so much. Updating the beta client right now to romp around again.
Same here (except not supporting ESO's distasteful preorder/collectors bonus). I actually thought Id like the game more than I did. The weirdest part is I cant specifically point out anything wrong with it ... it just didnt feel right. I THINK! it might be that it tried to be TOO cartoony. Its like all the awesome animations, sounds, etc totally backfired so the game now feels more like im playing a Disney/Pixar animated movie than an MMO. Sure, WoW is also a 'cartoony' game but it didnt push it much past the color palette.
I really thought that I would be playing Wildstar come launch but after spending a decent amount of time in the winter beta and then playing on a couple of ESO beta weekends it’s safe to say that ESO is the MMO for me.
Wildstar just felt so generic and the world felt dull and unsubstantial. I am a sucker for immersive worlds and quests and I know that it will just be yet another mindless grind to level cap for me.
With ESO I really feel drawn into lore packed world and the questing is infinitely superior.
Plus there's so much freedom in ESO. You can specialise as a crafter spending hundreds of hours to hone your skills for example. Or you could play as a tank, healer, support, melee dps and ranged dps with any class of your choosing.
I tried to make a Herald of Xolti using the Dragonknight just for a laugh, and proceeded to wreck faces in pve and pvp.
I had a spell damage Sorcerer who with the swap of a weapon became a melee damage dealing beast.

So i have high hopes for Star Citizen
Hmmm 40 man raids, oogliest raid gear since ... umm WoW, Add-ons, 2 faction PvP.
I wish there was more good stuff to counter those above, but i m just not seeing it.
Lolipops !
I'll give Wildstar a try at some point as it does look like fun. Just depends if the game is still populated by the time I get bored of ESO.
Not knocking Wildstar, ESO's numbers will dwindle also it's just getting in at launch is always the best time to play.

I was pretty impressed with the housing in WildStar and the crafting system. Seems like it is going to be a fun game.
Not all would agree with you =-)

the only good thing that wildstar has is that you can pay your sub through playing.
other than that sucks balls.
If eso implements this or goes b2p then it will be years ahead wildstar.
Not to mention that is another ncsoft game.
I'm playing both. Most of my friends are playing ESO, my guild is playing both.
ESO has a deeper storyline. I find the graphics, gameplay and world more immersive.
WildStar is silly fun that I can play in spurts. Swimming Chua are the cutest thing I've seen since the gnome dance in WoW.
I think they're both good games.
No bitchers.
