The similarities are poking at my brain: SM vs EC

I clicked on the video excited to see what had been made so quickly that it was able to have footage. My first impressions are that it looks very similar, if not a copy to the late THQ's Spacemarine game. I apologize if I sound ignorant, perhaps I'm missing something?

nope you are not missing somthing EC is hugely influenced by SM in a combat mechanics sence, at least for the marines, we havent seen the eldar or orks yet. croutching, vaulting, wall jumping with a jump pack, revives, executions, all things that can be seen happening in this vid that are not in SM.

on a basic gameplay level this game will be more like a cross between space marine and planetside, with huge persistant maps and combind arms between 4 player factions and a 5th AI one. thats not something you can test in the pre alpha stage as you need a lot more players and a lot more assets.

pre alphas tend to be proofs of concept and are used to test basic gameplay systems and the tech behind it all. the feel of space marine's combat is what they are aiming for and the fact that they seem to have replecated it in the new engine this quickly is an encouraging sign that the team can actualy achive what they set out to do.

I  would find it odd if two games based on 40k space marines looked vastly different.

It would be silly if they suddenly introduced Power Armor mk. IX

Highly doubtful considering that the Mark VII (Aquila) is more than adequate and the Mark VIII (Errant) is technologically inferior to the Aquila in many respects.

I can only hope! We had/are still having a blast with SM. The multiplayer arenas are still fairly active, and I only see it picking up as EC gets closer to launch. I'd even say that there will be an out-lash of disappointment  if they're not similar.

Technology long lost. But what I wanted to say,is that every Warhammer game will look similar, since we cannot encounter anything *new*.Except Vengeance Launcher, screw that one :P

Uhmm... considering the main antagonists, chaos, either have CSM (which use heresy era armor or whatever they could steal from loyalists) or Dark Eldar (who are as close to "cut me deeper, I LIKE IT!" as you can get so their notion of armor isn't too great and their weapons are meant to cause pain more than physical damage so they are less likely to innovate) you can see why there is stagnation.
