The problem is just that it's a very boring game. It derives most of its entertainment from you reading and listening to dialog and story. The quest design, progression, gear models, and more are below par.
It is just so bland and boring, you're doing the same things you do in every other MMO and it just feels like an MMO in that the engine is dated and physics aren't there. What I mean is to do anything you just click e and wait until it says complete and this is something all MMOs do. There is a massive disconnect between you and the world, I mean I had to put out houses that were on fire and to do so I ran over to a load of buckets, pressed E and waiting until it said I picked one up, then I ran over to a few houses and put them all out by pressing E and with only one bucket! Then I went inside and pressed E to speak to someone and they ran out all by themselves and vanished... typical WoW like MMO quest tbh.
Originally posted by Dauntis Yeah I agree with everything the OP said regarding this crap pile of a game. But the LOTRO comment was incorrect and uneducated. LOTRO did suck ass at first but made a hell of a comeback. And who woulda thunk it a game based on a story that is a completely linear quest would base itself around giving player characters a linear quest line instead of an open world?
Define "open world". ESO feels a decent bit less on rails than WS. Even area that's the MOST on rails in ESO doesn't feel like a typical quest hub grind like WS.
No matter how good or groundbreaking a game is, you can bet you will have naysayers and whiners everywhere. This is most certainly true the more people that like the game. There subconscience crybaby kicks in and they automatically hate it, and most don't even know why! In fact, some people hate on popular games such as this without respect to actual merit, but because of other things altogether! For intance, if a game is loved by a lot of people, you are sure to have certain pathetic people whose natural tendency it is to hate on it. It makes them feel cool to buck against the mainstream. Rest assured, a lot of the people on Metacrtic with dummy accounts, and those who troll forums such as this, don't actually own the product, or if they do, they don't really feel as negatively towards it as they think they do. They just hate it because so many love it. It really is that simple. There are a lot of douchebags in the gaming community, and it makes me sick that so many gamers can be so utterly childish.
Then you have the anticorporate and antibusiness morons. If something is released by EA, Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, Bethseda, etc, you can rest assured that there will be hate all over the place! People just can't help but channel there "inner-marxist" every time a massive commercial release hits the shelves. They hit the pirate sites, and whine about everything under the sun. Entitlement run amok. People like that make me sick.
As far as ESO goes, many of the people leveling complaints about it are ridiculous! I keep hearing "generic". Are you kidding me? LotRO is a good example of a basic MMORPG. ESO is more of an MMO hybrid, and it breaks new ground in several ways. Anyone acting as if this is the same thing we've seen before don't know what they are talking about - nor do they probably care, as long as they are bashing something so many love, or something very commercial, or both. I mean, the server system, the quest system, the dialogue system, the crafting system, the class system, the mount system, the leveling system - I can go on and on. It's totally new ground. I really don't know what to think about some people.
If you dislike the game for honest reasons, disregard my post. But if you, as I suspect most of you do, have a tendency to detest the game because it's backed by a big business and/or loved by so many, then grow up, "comrade".
