Zenimax charging that extra month you won't ever play. Everything legally written too ...
How come you didn't provide the first part of the ToS?
You may choose automatic renewal of Your subscription. If You choose this option, You have agreed to permit Bethesda to automatically charge Your credit card, bank card, debit card or other Payment Method associated with Your Account for an automatic renewal of Your current subscription preferences to the applicable Service. You may cancel at any time by revising Your selection in Your Accounts page, or contacting Customer Services at support.bethsoft.com.
I think that this is legalese for not giving you a refund once you've started a month; in other words, if May 4th rolls over, you pay the next charge, and you quit on May 5th then you don't get a refund for the 29 days you've already pre-charged. This would be normal, in the way that it is not normal to charge in advance. The latter wouldn't hold in any case, as it really is not legal to charge you for a product that you've canceled.
But I'm sure that we'll see a lot of raging and posts on this anyhow...

Of course you can cencel at any time. You just need 31+ days notice for your cancel to be acknowledged / effective. That is stated shortly there after.
Zenimax was just about to throw their reputation under the bus for a quick cash grab. Which would have a PR nightmare for the upcoming console launches. Obviously though it's much better to throw away any future sales of the game to try and get a couple extra bucks. I mean the company is obviously going to commit PR Seppuku, by stealing money from it's customers.
To think they would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for those meddling kids.
So lets say you subscribed with a credit card on April 4 for 1 month's service at $14.99. You're included 30 days free with purchase will end on May 4. On May 4, you will be charged $14.99 for service through June 4th. If you decide to cancel you just need to do it before May 4th, which is at least 30 days before June 4th, which will be your next auto-bill.

Maybe there using the cryptic playbook of grab a popular IP making as much money as they can from it then moving on to something else. They still could squeeze a lot from console sales because this info is moving so slow and being covered by fanboys and others. Are maybe they just have no idea what there doing which is even worse considering there all over the palce on CSR and banking issue replies. My experience: was denied transaction NSF. submitted a ticket CSRs reply was you need to have the exact amount in your account for the "charge." ticket closed. I submitted another ticket for a refund, 4 days no reply. Theres a 75+ page post under customer support they combined with another topic, which were not allowed to type about here, which is still happening.
Remove your payment information before the next payment date. No info, no purchase. You should be doing that anyway when you cancel any subscription.
You get zapped with May's charges as soon as you sign up in April. Fans say it's just a holding of funds to test the credit card, but .. lol .. how long do you really need to hold funds before you say ok card works, money returned!
about a day, seeing as I got mine back without ever contacting them
I originally on day 1 started a thread about this and after hundreds of comments an way more views Mike B here shut it down saying its auth charge WOW really you called verified with my credit card company it is....now we seeing the light in their tricky EULA snares folks into paying. Never in my 17 years of mmos seen this and that is why I made a big deal about it because it is not right its deceitful!
My AMEX card has told me many times this is not a hold this is a charge.
When I contacted Zenimax again today t his while cute is a very annoying response(mind you I am going on 5 days no refund.)

Greetings!
Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team.
At this time I am going to send this issue up to the Mage's Guild. Once they have consulted their scrolls, a Mage will contact you as soon as possible to assist you with your issue.
You can find more information about The Elder Scrolls Online on ourwebsite and social channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Google+).
Thank you for your continued interest and support!

You mean STO? The game that cryptic still supports and is still making content for? Sounds more like a personal issue you have with Cryptic, rather than anything factual.
The console release is almost 2 months away. That's plenty of time to hurt their reputation.
I don't understand why you think you should be refunded for an NSF charge. Seems like it would be your fault for not having sufficient funds in your account.

I'm assuming that is what you wanted highlighted?
I think he wanted the red bit highlighted. The customer chooses to automatically renew. If you are worried about this kind of thing, then you don't set up an automatic renewal.
Also haven't people already canceled their subscriptions without a problem? You clearly don't need 31+ days notice. It would be an insanely stupid thing to do and unlike some people here, I don't think ZOS is trying to grab anyone's money by cheap tricks.
I'll trust them until they do something otherwise and so far they haven't for me. The authentication charge is absolutely fine by me, I get the money back so no harm is done.
Nice try on redirecting, or maybe just a lack of comprehension, but I will explain. Cryptic grabs a popular IP, over hypes it, puts out a beta and calls it a release. The CSR that replied to me referred to the transaction as a "CHARGE" not a validation. Considering the amount was 14.99 that seemed to verify what was being said by others on different forums, leaving me with no trust of there billing department. So I requested a refund on the game. You and other can defend Zeni and there shady practices/ incompetence all you want but it will come out and unfortunately the game and mmo industry will suffer because of it.

The EULA says you day each month ahead of time. ZOS is giving refunds because it's a good PR move, for now. They didn't think people would actually read the EULA. And hell I wouldn't either if it weren't for fellow TESO fans on the official forum.
Accept it as it is. ZOS got called out. They are busted. Their own EULA showed their "legal might" .. gamers just want to play great games, without hastle, and without all the bullshit companies try to spill, like hidden fees, like paying for extra months, never intended to be purchased..
We have people twisting around a complex legal document and spinning paranoid fantasies. If someone had a specific confirmation of this bizarre interpretation of the agreement then, yes, I'd be really bothered by it. But there is simply zero evidence that this is correct, and a lot of evidence that it is not.
Guess we have to come to this thread to voice are issue mine was closed with no reason. About similiar issue and if that was why the mod should have stated that.

Never go by what is written, just go by what you think it aught to say.
Sorry, but this time, the evidence is clear on the table, POST #1, to anyone just joining. And it's confirmed, because it's an official link to Zenimax's EULA.

It's not confirmed as what you are claiming simply hasn't happened yet. People are cancelling without issue.
...and people wonder why at every college campus (and in HS with debit cards) there are credit card companies ready to have teens sign their life away...
Before posting, try to understand how subscriptions work in MMO's, understand your rights as a consumer, and don't post about EULA's that you try to interpret as if you were the lawyer that drew it up.
Not a single person will be charged in May if they cancel their sub before the billing date. This is such common practice, I find it hard to believe so many believe (or are duped into believing) otherwise, despite the all posts with bold type-face, quotes, and colored text.

I think it's just worded poorly. I believe it means you have at least a 30 day window prior to expiration.

Could be, but that isn't what was stated. EULA is legally binding when we click "accept" .. what we think afterwards doesn't matter much.
