I'm bored already.

I've gotten level 31 with my main, got alts at 10 and 15 and some minor. And I don't feel like opening the game and start leveling anymore. It's a hassle. I feel the leveling takes too much time, and isn't as interesting. I mean, I've had fun until now. As a guy not really interesting in story, so I don't listen to a voiced book all day, I skip that part, and play the game. As I enjoyed the combat, the builds availiable. But all in all, I'm bored. I unsubbed, and are falling back to my old MMOs. And I don't think the market is really up for more sub-based games at this time.

I mean what should I do? When I think it's a hassle to even start up the game, thinking about all the grinding of quests. I didn't really get into the crafting even. I hate the fact that an item, and the whole item can be ruined in an attempt to make it better. So I've been researching and gathering mostly. Finding the inventory(bag and bankspace) also annyoing in the game. I want to save up for that faster horse, not spending it all on bag and bankspace.

The itemization isn't even that interesting. Damage, enchants with various damage and stuff is mostly it. Then the traits, more xp for that particular item, less costs upon dying? Boring. Set items is of course the thing, but why collect a set at level 30, when you get better invidual items a few quests/mobs later.

Anyone else feeling this? I'd liek tip on what to do in order to feel less bored with it. I'm in 2-3 playerguilds already.

You don't enjoy story and you're not listening to NPCs?

Ok, you're playing the wrong game and you've made the right decision.

I think the issue is that is the major portion of the pve game. At least, the general thrust of how this game is put together.

It's like going to a carnival and not riding the rides but only eating at the food vendors and then wondering what to do?

"I'm sorry to say" this is probably not your game.

One you can keep upgrading starter horse to be faster. If you do not like crafting, questing, crafting risk, inventory management vs selling, or following the stories....well....I think quest based mmo's are not for you.

I am liking playing my alts, taking on the different quests with different builds. I like the stories. I like the grind and collecting the sets so I have them. I could careless if they are better or not then what I have. I am a collector. I improve my horses, manage my alts, collect to sell to guild, help guildies. I am enjoying myself.

Right there... I never read quest text or followed lore in the past either, but, before release, I had a feeling it would behoove me to watch all the lore videos on YouTube and get caught up on what all is going on. I can definitely see how you feel the way you do when all the pieces of the lore puzzle are scattered abroad for you.

However, in your defense, there are plenty of MMORPGs out there that do not require you to read a single thing, so maybe this game is simply just not for you.

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Trust me I would become bored too if I would play ESO that way.

Like DKLond said, you made the right choice not to play ESO.

So don't be sorry for being honost.

I actually like ESO allot especially it's story and I am not even such a story follower when it comes to MMO's. But for me it's the mix of being a ES fan and MMORPG fan that makes ESO tick for me.

There is no mystery why you can't get into the game.

If you buy a book to flip through the pages to read chapter headers ... you've made a poor consumer choice.

    You stay sassy!

You could try PvP, otherwise I have to agree with DK. Two of the game's greatest strengths are the story (and lore), and the exploration (out of every theme park MMO I have played it is the most sandboxy). If you aren't enjoying those aspects I don't know what to tell you. For me the other two strongest aspects are the character spec options, and the PvP. Sorry...

This new culture of MMO players have become so spoiled.

Most of the MMORPG players these days would of never lasted in the old days of DAoC,EQ,UO and AO, all people want to do is get to cap in 3 days. God forbid a game actually takes awhile to level in, the game isnt for you dude because it's not about the destination , it is about the way there. You admitted too skipping all the story which is one of the biggest and best parts of the game.

    Go enjoy your other MMO's

  • Professor78Professor78 Member UncommonPosts: 611

So basically you are saying you want o be rewarded without putting in any effort....Each to their own.

The game to me is great as you get a sense of achievement which has been sorely missed from the rubbish over the last few years.

If you take the story out of an elder scrolls game, what are you left with? Collecting cups?

I will say ESO really is an RPG'ers MMO, if you're looking for quick action and are all about combat, you might want to take a loot at other games, ESO is very much about story, exploration, and immersing yourself in the world.

At least, OP, you know yourself a little bit better for the next time.

  • DEAD.lineDEAD.line Member Posts: 424

It seems the game really isn't your style. You don't liek story or cutscenes, but 90% of the questing quality come from it, and how the story affects the world using phasing. Also, you say you don't liek how you can ruin items, but ti's actually part of the mechanics of crafting to add depth.

If i'm not mistaken, by adding more mats, the change of breaking lowers. Anyway, it's complicated to say how one can get you to enjoy the game more if don't know what you like. It may be best to just move on imo. But this is the reasonw hy you should research games before buying them.

  • BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001
The new culture want action and itemisation and fast levelling and don't care about the story. I feel sorry for them, no mmorg is ever going to be stimulating and have long term appeal - trapped in a horrific cycle where great games = number of pixels, would bore me to death!

here's an interesting thought, I wonder what the correlation between those that don't read and those that can't find happiness in mmorgs are - almost 1 to 1 I bet.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

These comments always make me curious.  What are your old MMOs?  Are you talking about games where you are already established at Max Level/Endgame, or games were you could start a new character at level 1 and not be bored?

For me, ESO's leveling at least feels involved.  Every quest is it's own little story line(kinda like an ES game).

I guess all that matters is what you want to do when you go to the Dreaded Castle of Evil Stuff.

    Would you rather....

Standard Themepark MMO: Pick up three quests.

    Quest 1 - Kill 20 Evil Things.

    Quest 2 - Collect 10 Evil Thing's Beards.

Quest 3 - Kill Evil Thing Leader

10 Minutes later you turn in your quests and get your reward.

    ESO:  Pick up one quest.

Quest 1 - "OH THE BANDITS TOOK MY STUFF!!!  I THINK THEY RAN INTO THAT BIG FORTRESS!"  Go into the fortress and find the bandits.  The bandits are dead.  The fortress was overrun by the Evil Things.  Friendly forces are attacking the Evil Things and want your help.  Kill Evil Things.  Oh wait they are not actually Evil Things, they are villages turned into Evil Things.  STOP KILLING THEM.  Here use this amulet to subdue the villagers turned Evil Things.  We must find a cure.  Search through all these buildings for evidence of what is going on.  Oh crap the general turned them into Evil Things.  Go into this building and fight your way to the general.  Fight the general.  Oh it wasn't the general's fault.  He is being controlled by an evil wizard.  Hunt for clues about who the evil wizard is.  Go into the fortress' dungeon that then turns into a cave.  Follow the cave up through the mountain next to the fortress.  Come out on the mountainside overlooking the fortress.  THERE'S THAT SOB WIZARD!!!!

45 minutes later....you may be done with the quest....

I love exploration, combat and dungeons. I love how the characters can build in different skills and still be unique. Love the look of the armors and characters in this game. And the crafting somewhat. But it kinda ends there. I would think that would be enough to keep me going, the story is alright at times, but I don't listen to it mostly that would be me "reading" audio books daily, and that's not me. And I'm no PvP player, I can enjoy it so I should maybe try. But hearing that you don't level as fast there as questing(and questing is DAMN slow), I think it wouldn't be enough for me to continue to play the game.

I have seen others also play this game, and they also skip most of the story, so I'm not alone in liking the game. But if you compare this to The Secret World. I listen to the secret world voiceover moreso than in this game, it's more mystic and so I'm wanting to know more. But here's like this girl needs help finding her son, and the next is like, "my son has disappeared!". It's so boring, uninteresting side quests. Get this from that house, and this from that house. And no the quests doesn't take 45 minutes, not with me behind the wheels. Think they are just as fast as killing 30 bears to get their flanks. And some are better than others, but 1 level now is like 1 day. And I can't cope with that.

But again, thanks for all the answers. And I still think I did a fairly good job, and I like the game for awhile(well, about a week isn't much for an MMO). I might return later if they do something about the leveling speed or if more of my friends starts to play this.

    1. Too long to level? The game is two weeks old if you were in the head start. How fast do you want to hit level cap? Dear god, the hell levels in EverQuest would've made your brain explode. And forget about it if you just got level 53 then died, couldn't get a rez, then de-leveled back into the hell level that was level 52. You might've done serious harm to someone, or yourself.
    2. Two thoughts on this point. You don't want to take a chance on losing the item, wait till you get 5 improvement items. You'll have 100% chance at success. Personally, I love that you can gamble and lose mats/items. Makes you really weigh your decisions and do risk/reward analysis. Do you take that 40% shot? If you do? How exciting are those 5 seconds until you find out if you succeed or not? If you do, you have the exaltation of success. If not, the quick pang of regret in the pit of your stomach due to the failure. Consequences are fun man, get with the spirit. :)

I have the same feeling. I had to logg  back  to Age of conan today to play some proper combat again. The feel of the melee combat is TESO biggest problem imo. Rest of the game is alright. Huge, beatiful world.

Okay, one more...Flash forward it's all of a sudden 11:45 PM and my wife is pissed I haven't come to bed yet...whoops. Sorry sweetheart, didn't realize almost 2 hours blew buy. Of course it wasn't all on those two quests. There was a little gathering, exploration, and crafting thrown in but, yeah...

I'm not big on story in most games and this isn't really the exception.

I don't know why I killed the wolves in wow, the wookies in swtor, the orks in WAR, the little fat things in Aion, or why the centaurs are always ALWAYS attacking in GW2.

In ESO you are playing through the story.  You're not picking up a quest that gives you the problem and solution all at once. "There is bad crap, go kill 20 of it."  In ESO you are presented with the situation and then by doing the quest you are playing through the story and generally don't find out the outcome until it completes.  Even if you're like me and generally don't care about the story it is presented to you just by playing. (not sure if that makes as much sense in text as it does in my head).

    THERE'S THAT SOB WIZARD!!!!!!!

That made me laugh so hard!!! image

yeah that was hilarious. And so true.

I can't tell you how many times when I first started playing that I was ready to log and I saw someone with a quest and thought "well, I"m close to leveling, let me just 'bang' this quest out" only to find myself 30 minutes later completely engaged in what is going on.

I still haven't done a quest that's longer than 15 minutes tops. Where can you find the ones that are 30 mins and 45 mins? I haven't had one yet at level 31.

The leveling is really slow, slow as fuck. People that are hardcore and dedicated is veteran rank 10 already, claiming there's nothing to do. I mean it's slow leveling, but I've been having fun while leveling anyway, and the leveling is the whole game as it is now.

Meaning compared to other games the levels, and the time you use to progress through the game(meaning story, zones and enemy types) is very slow compared to other games. Even in Wildstar it felt quicker, slow but quicker than this. And the same enemies from 1-30 mostly so far in ESO. It's now at 30 I've really encountered werewolves. Before that it was mostly human like enemies.

Most of you saying the game is not for me are probably right. And I kinda thought it was by my self, when I don't feel like playing, not even logging in to feed my horse on all my alts anymore.

This game has no legs because it has so little.

Give it another month and you'll see the real face of TESO, and it isn't pretty.

Honeymoon mode is still in effect.

Care to elaborate? I have guild mates that have been on the PTS for over a year. I'd say their Honeymoon period is long since over. Their enjoying leveling through the game again. So please, enlighten us. Share your vast knowledge of secrets that no one else apparently is privy to.
