I'm not the kind to write much on mmo games forum, but I had to pitch in for this one. In my opinion, The Elder Scrolls Online is quite amazing. For many reasons:
- The look. Very impressive graphics and arts. Being an old fan of the previous Elder Scrolls games, I am very happy to see a beautiful world unfolding as I run forward. I run the game at max spec with a 2 years old computer without any lag.
- The vastness. The game, like all other Elder Scrolls game at launch, create a feeling of immensity.
- The combat system. I love it. I was bored of the old auto-attack with thousands of skills. This one keeps it simple, while you can select a large variety of combination. You block by actually raising the shield, not by some hidden stats. You dodge by double tapping a movement key. You can bash, disorient, knockback, stun, all by using the right combination of skills.
- The music. The music and soundtrack are outstanding. The quality of the sound of thunder and rain, swimming, the clash of metal in combat, just great and immersive.
- The UI. Immersive. I was always annoyed seeing the screen with hundreds of names floating around as I moved my pov. Now its clean.
- The choices. I like the way we have much less restriction regarding joining guilds, creating a class, leveling a weapon, crafting professions, etc...
- Exploration. Exploration is gratifying. You discover new places, get experiences, fight world boss. It pushes you to always go further and to check at every corner if there is something hidden.
- The chests. I like discovering chests and opening it with a lockpick. You got to have lockpick on you, some skills to open it, and be the first to see it.
- Team synergy. I just love it. I'm far from knowing much about it, but I like to discover new effects and combos.
- Smooth launch. On my side, I had not one problem encountered. The game was ready.
I could go on with some more things, but that's enough for a post. A great game I'm happy to play and will play for a long time.

endgame aside (which i haven't gotten to yet so i cannot say either way) ESO is the best MMO on the market right now IMO.

The possibility of the universe collapsing into a singularity is higher than the birth of a perfect MMORPG.

Aloha Mr Hand !
Yeah go for it 3 days on the KS left,I might play you in a game one day.
I stopped and read a journal during the Glenumbra Hag quest and it was a great story! ESO is the kind of game where if you're willing to stop and smell the roses it becomes a completely different(and better) experience.
Too many people fall into the trap of min-maxing and just worrying about combat builds...you really miss out on the great atmosphere if you don't take your time and absorb the whole experience.

I just began playing two days ago (plus one beta weekend), but, so far, game feels great. Not great becouse it's a brand new MMORPG that was hyped for months and that everybody talked about and now are playing it, but great as a new Elder Scrolls game, a fascinating, huge, role playing game, with integrated multiplayer functionality. It's not a living world as in a sandbox game, but it's a world with living story, becouse of how the phasing tehnology works in game. It makes the story and characters you meet feel meaningful and memorable. This creates a feel of immersion and a real world, rather than an artificial, static game evironment. Also, the combat and UI - two extremely important factors, that immidietly make the game feel fresh and original. In no way is this a standard, classic 'WoW-clone', that makes you fall asleep after 10 minutes of playing. Last thing - graphics and engine. This is most fundamental and basic thing for any video game, and it is great in ESO. Everything looks sharp, there is great level of detail, and the lightning looks beautiful. At the same time it runs flawlessly on maximum settings and doesn't use anywhere near the full power of my PC (although it is rather new and powerfull).
It's interesting when you compare it to other big MMOs released in recent years:
SWtoR - it has very nice story and dialog system and great voice-acting. Those two things are similar to ESO, but everything else is completely opposite; a most standard, classic combat system, UI, character classes and progression, crafting, hub-based questing. Game is literally WoW with Bioware dialog and story system and Star Wars skin. Also, terrible engine, very poor quality graphics.
The Seccret World - interesting comparision: both games have very big emphasis on immersion, storytelling, questing with voiceovers and both have very free form character progression, both are based on 3 opposing factions and include 3-way PvP, both have interesting crafting system, both have limited hotbar... the more I think about it, the more similar they seem... What TSW is missing is ESOs combat, very big world with a lot of exploration opportunities, generally more production quality.
FFXIV - I have very limited experience with it, but, afaik: great graphics, not so great engine, classic raiding and gear progression game with fairly standard combat and UI, although with it's own style and flavour, not much in terms of story, but I'm sure it's great for Final Fantasy fans, a rather linear world with not much exploration options, big emphasis on crafting.
GW2 - This is clearly the most similar to ESO of all games mentioned, but after playing ESO, I can't help but feel, that it has many things that GW2 is missing;
I won't talk about bussines model, becouse there's no point - people buy what they love and what they want, if it is good enough.
I can't say anything about PvP or dungeons in ESO yet, but these are just first imperssions of the game and comparision of other games impressions.
Saying all of this, I don't know if I'll be playing ESO in 2 months, as I'm waiting for Watchdogs and Elite: Dangerous, but they are both very different games, so I may as well stay in Elder Scrolls world for a long time.
One more thought about SWtoR:
Imagine this game with ESO engine, graphics, world, combat, progression and phasing technology....
People would be jizzing their pants all over internet. Literally.
Just started playing this weekend. I really thought the quests are different from other games but they're still just run of the mill. Nothing new but I don't have a problem with it, the stories and stuff is quite enjoyable.
What realy sets this game apart from other games is the customization of your character. I love hunting for sky shards and getting that skill point to learn a new skill or to morph them. It might not be balanced but THIS is what I always enjoyed about MMORPGS. The customization of your character (toon . It makes the game quite addicting and I'm loving it.
I am literally amazed how much I enjoy this game. I dare say I am addicted to it. Finally got my wife to start playing with me as well.
The game has issues, many quest bugs, inventory system and Guild store (dear god how almost useless is that thing?), but I love the wandering, exploration factor it brings to the table. Hours go by like minutes for me. First time that's happened in a LONG time.

You buy a new game... it's new... it's interesting... it's fun... then it's not so new... not so interesting... not so fun...
Luckily there is another new game just around the corner to replace it...
And another...
And another...
And another...
Rinse and repeat?
That is why i never get too over excited in first month or so with new MMO. I know i would be feeling differently once it gets a bit old. Happens every damn time.
Perhaps try not playing 80 hours a week? How long would any game be fun putting that kind of time into it? Just saying...
