Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has officially launched. To celebrate the big day, the team has released a new game play trailer. Check it out!

Players who own the PlayStation®3 system version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn can upgrade* their accounts to the PlayStation®4 system for free. Please note that, once upgraded, PlayStation®4 system players will no longer be allowed access to the PlayStation®3 system version. To play both versions, a player must purchase the PlayStation®4 system version. Additional account transfer details can be found here.

I don't quite get it. You can upgrade from 3 to 4 but that locks you out of 3.

If you want to play 3 AND 4 you have to buy 4?

    ...

    Profit?

If they wanted profit... they would make everyone buy for PS4.   You get a free copy of the game if you have a PS4, I would say that's a pretty good deal.  Plus, once you play on the PS4, you'll never want to play on the PS3.

Why someone would play it on ps3 even he got ps4?

Not getting your logic on this one. Why would you want to play on PS3 if you could play the game on PS4 and upgraded to it? PS4 is far more powerful hardware and game runs better on that system.

How is everyone liking it? Also would anyone rather A. Upgrade your PC. Or B. Buy PS4?

This is actually what I'm saying.

The free switch from version 3 to 4 makes sense.

But why do people who buy version 4 get the license for both 3 and 4?

That doesn't make the slightest sense at all.

When I said profit I didn't actually mean profit but was refering to that 10 year old South Park episode with the underwear gnomes.

I think you are slightly confused... Buying the PS4 version doesn't allow you access to the PS3 version - it will allow you to play on PS4 ONLY...

If you then decided you want to also play on PS3 at any time you'd need to buy the PS3 version ALSO...

However the upgrade is great for people who may have since bought a PS4 and still play the game currently on PS3.  They can upgrade their PS3 version to play on their PS4, however in doing so they lose the ability to play on their PS3..

It's also handy for those who may want to save some money as the PS3 version is really cheap right now - much cheaper than the PS4 version.  So essentially if you are canny you can get the PS4 version for peanuts!

It's really not too difficult to understand....

The reason they did this is because they want to eventually have 99% of the people migrate over to PS4 and maybe within 3-4 years, discontinue the service for PS3.  PS3 will show its limitations, while PS4 allows them to do a lot of things that they can't right now.

This is the part that confused me:

what it means, is if you have the PS3 version right now and playing on it, but you bought a PS4, you can upgrade your PS3 version to PS4 for free, but no longer play it through your PS3.

now for "To play both versions, a player must purchase the PlayStation®4 system version."

Means if you want to be able to play on both, do not upgrade your PS3 version of the game, instead go buy the PS4 version (without upgrading your old PS3 version) and add that code to your account, this way you will retain the ability to play the PS3 version, and the PS4.
