It looks like ESO has sold 1.6-3.2 in its pre order sales and first day of sales. In order to find out the full amount of sold copies, we need to see how many people purchased a Digital Copy compared to a Retail Copy of the game. So cast your poll and tell us what copy you bought?
Do you note how on vgchartz it says week ending April 5th - The game launched April 4th, so you only see date of 1 day.
Methodology used:
http://www.vgchartz.com/methodology.php
•Passively polling end users to find out what games they are currently purchasing and playing
•Polling retail partners to find out what games and hardware they are selling
•Using statistical trend fitting and historical data for similar games
•Studying resell prices to determine consumer demand and inventory levels
•Consulting with publishers and manufacturers to find out how many units they are introducing into the channel
Collectively, we estimate that total retail game sales in these 5 countries account for around 70% of the Global market.
So lets take this to the next level and analyze what we do have.
FACTS:
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70799/the-elder-scrolls-online/
We have 253k retail sales, which represents 1 day and 70% of the global market of Retail. From this fact, we can conclude that according to vgchatz, that the sales on 1 day is at 328,900 sales for retail copy.

Zenimax had ran over 1 year of beta with 5 million Registered Users. With advertisments ran that directed people from youtube and third party sites such as this one to their Zenimax Online Store. Since everyone was allowed into beta who wanted to try the game, we can assume that the number of sales in Zenimax online store would have a ratio and sales number to them.
10 Online purchases to every 1 retail box = 3,289,000 sold
5 Online purchases to every 1 retail box = 1,644,500
I think it would be safe to assume that Over 5 customers to every one retail buyer would have purchased the game on Greenman gaming with the 30% discount or at the Zenimax Online Studio where the ads would take them and beta players would have purchased the game from.
So upon these facts, we can Make a Theory based on the facts that between 1,644,500 to 3,289,000 preorders and first day sales have taken place.

How about we wait to see if ZOS releases any info?
It's speculative regardless of whether you're speculating in a positive or negative direction. vgchartz doesn't have the data right now, they usually update numbers AFTER those numbers are publicly released. They currently capture their data by polling outlets and the public. Their historical data is always adjusted after official numbers come out . . . so yay vgchartz for knowing what everyone has access to.
Poll time! Want to see how many digital copies sold compared to Retail. which hasn't been done yet.
I got mine from Greenman Gaming for 20% off. I got it for 47.07$.
I strongly doubt the active viewership of MMORPG.com is representative of the entire consumer base. What that means is these results are only valid for the viewership of MMORPG.com and can not be used to accurately estimate trends across the entire ESO consumer base. Or, why this poll doesn't matter.
They did not run the beta for over 1 year with 5 million testers. The massive amount of beta testers did participate only at the weekend betas.
By the way, why are more threads in this forum about "how many copies were sold", "how the game is doing", "this game will surviva or will be f2p in some months", "successor of xx game" or whatever.......
Why are there almost no threads rather about the gameplay itself ?
What is this forum about, you get almost no game infos here only just chit chatting about sales and if the game succeeds or not.....
And the orange kitty cat must get paid for each negative, misinformed troll thread he creates on video games he hates and it's definitely by the word that's why all his are so full of garbage.
At least we have one on each side but I'd definitely take Knotwoods info over the Orange kitty cat any day.

5 Million registered beta users, its been over the news all over the place.
And i don't think that would be shocking to anyone that you decided to side with a speculative made up numbers topic which is in favor of the game compared to one which is against the game.
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.
Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?
Actually it has to do with the kitty cats history . Just go look at his history he spent over two years bashing and posting the same exact stuff on a prior video game. Sorry anyone that spends years bashing a video game can't be taken seriously.
LOL it appears to me they made a good enough game to have every negative poster with a hidden agenda make frequent post on this site . Seems to me if ESO was just a bad game nobody would post here save a few fanbois ....what we are seeing is a real concerted effort by many folks with vested interests in other games
Pretty much. If you don't play it, you hate it here at MMORPG.com
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV

If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
You are totally out of your mind OP. There were never five million beta testers testing the game.
Many people I know personally registered up to 100 different email addresses each.
Then again this does come from Knotwood Corporate Productions who also tells us it's a fact that ESO will have 10 million subs during year 1
Look, I'm a fan of the game and of course want to see it do well, but those numbers are not telling the whole story.
fun fact: 6 of those registrations are mine.
1 the first time they asked for sign-ups
2 at PAX East, 1 for each day
1 for when a while passed and I felt they probably screwed up their lists.
2 in order to see if I would get a "you have already signed up for beta" as it was a question on these forums whether it was possible to sign up multiple times.
How many other people signed up multiple times for multiple reasons?

If the poll was to end right now, and the digital sales of the poll represented the whole buyer base. we would be sitting at
10 Online purchases to every 1 retail box = 3,289,000 sold. (If MMORPG.com is the representation of the buyer base)
We also got to keep in mind that all the PC sales of the 20 million skyrim sales was digital downloads on steam. This game hasn't been released on steam yet, so the numbers will probably be much higher when it does.
Not true.
I take exception. I don't hate it. I haven't bought it yet.
Oh wait.........that was sarcasm.........
Carry on.
Haha yep, I'm in a feisty sarcastic mood this morning, hello Friday

Or maybe they are waiting until after the first months subs kick in to declare anything, After all SWTOR paid BIG for releasing their numbers before the subs were announced, giving that game a bad image after the huge drop of numbers when subs kicked in.
vgchartz is an estimate - some would say a guesstimate.
I checked their FFXIV numbers and they were out by a factor of 3.
As for this thread - maybe Knotwood should provide the vgchartz numbers!
We don't know.
