If the name of this game wasnt "Elder Scrolls Online"

rodarinrodarin Member EpicPosts: 2,611

It would be getting buried by everyone everywhere. Is there ANY redeeming quality this game has? I am being serious here.

Every day there is something new getting 'exposed' in this game as totally broken. Although the duping things (this weekends big revelation/admission) has been going on since beta. But to fix it they would have to rework the whole game so they released it and hoped people wouldnt exploit it.... yeah good idea.

But the game is four major patches in and another 4 or 5 random downtimes and hot fixes and the game is performing worse and worse each and every 'fix'.

So if this was random MMO number 5 what would people be saying about it?

The IP and name recognition is saving this game from a complete disaster. Not to think it is a success by any means but because of its name the burial of it isnt completely 100% there are still enough white knights and fanboys and defenders because of the title of on the screen.

Its so obvious people arent even bothering to be critical anymore its like putting an extra bullet into a corpse that has been cut in half by gunfire.

Now the new mini game is to watch the forums and see what else screws up as the days go by, or see how long before they get to 10K posts in the customer support forums. Theyre at around 8800 and getting almost 500 new ones a day so sometime by Wednesday I would imagine.

No, you're not being serious.  If you were, you wouldn't ask a question that you already know the answer to, in an attempt to start a flame war.

This game has issues,  but it's got a hell of a lot of redeeming qualities:  The ability to create your own class from limitless combinations of active and passive skills, an MMO that rewards exploration, a beautiful environment to explore in, a quest-driven game that actually manages to break out of the "quest hub" grind by requiring you to find your questgivers throughout the world, a great feeling of immersion, a well-crafted story, very fun PvP in a massive PvP zone, a very deep crafting system...etc.

But you already knew that, didn't you?

Some people like the game, and i even believe some of them (not all lol).

That being said, no i don't think ESO would sell or even be mentioned anywhere if it was not for the name. The game itself is so generic that every name would fit just as well. But it HAS the Elder Scrolls written all over its title screen, so people will buy and insist on having fun due to it.

The more pressing question: Why would you care? I for one care because it is a sub game. I wanted subs to return. Really. I hate FTP. But ESO is like a nail in the coffin for subs,... so that is why I care.

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

I don't know about you I'm not going to play anything just because of a name, if it wasn't Elder Scrolls, or TOR, as this was said a lot in that case as well, it better have equally as interesting lore/presentation. I don't play Themeparks to read  randomly generated (it might as well be in most cases) quest text and move on to the next walking pinata.

It needs a lot of work, but it's not a bad game or anything, at least so far (I'm only level 12). I am liking the combat and quests, but haven't gotten into much else yet. Only like an hour in Cyrodiil, though it was fun. A shame that leveling is generally restricted to PvE, but meh.

But yeah, it can be kinda buggy at times, and the loading screens can sometimes take a while to finish up, but nothing game breaking for the most part for me, as of yet.

One bug I hate, is that randomly during combat, I'll suddenly not be able to attack with any abilities or my basic attacks, I'll start moving really slow, and my health and stamina don't  recharge (or at least very slowly, not that it matters), and all I can do is wait to be killed and hope it's gone when I respawn. Sometimes it persists through death and I need to re-log. Happened to me like 3 times so far, and hasn't really been overly annoying, but it is basically a cheap death here and there, so kinda sucks.

But I like the world, character creation, character and ability animations, and the quests quite a bit. I liked the few quests up to now where they give you decisions more than the rest.

I realize not everyone is into the story and quests, but they're definitely what makes the game, imo, so if you aren't into the story, you might get bored really quick.

I wasn't aware I was forcing myself to have fun and forcing myself to pay 15 a month, guess we ESO fans got possessed or something? ;) I, like many people, enjoy the game enough to sub to it. Zenimax will have to prove whether its game is worth 15 a month down the line, of course. Nobody's exactly sure what they're got in-store as of yet other then the Craglorn dungeon thing. And if it isn't good enough, then naturally people will unsub. Don't you think its a tad obnoxious you think you know what is fun or not for everybody?

If it wasn't named ESO would you even be posting here ?
  • MagikarpsGhostMagikarpsGhost Member RarePosts: 689
If ESO was not ESO then it would not exist to start. Sure the game has bugs and issues but its only been out about 2 weeks, i enjoy the game and honestly i feel like it is a TES game. only thing right now is the quest bugs, but we need to remember ZO is new to running a mmo and will learn in time. HELL at least ESO launch went better then WoWs most the people could not even log on to WoW  on the first day. I am not bashing it because i was one of them attempting to log on, it had as many if not more exploits and bugs and like ESO they worked to fix them. Right now all i see are WS fans and people who just want to hate post about ESO. I see a few ESO "fans" post but they always have one thing in common somewhere in the post there is "its not skyrim" or something to that same effect. I will admit the game needs a lot of polish and i believe in due time the game will run smoothly. At least the lag is not in effect like in beta though the gold seller bots are annoying im use to them from free mmos lol.

I was on the fence prior to launch on rather the game would be good or not. After reaching vr4 and getting some decent Pvp time in, I have found myself wanting to play more and more. As far as I'm concerned it is my current mmo home until the repopulation comes out. I am pleased with ESo although I am not a huge theme park fan, oddly enough it manages to break up the theme park feel enough for me to enjoy the ride.

Quests that actually feel like they have a purpose. Sure, it's still kill X and retrieve Y at the end of the day it feels more heroic. Combat is fun, bashing things with my 2h mace feels like I'm a warrior. Tons to do in every zone, quests that are found of the beaten path, dungeons that have no breadcrumb leading to them, gorgeous setting. I could go on and on.

I've had to wait for a patch to fix one quest and there's one world boss that won't spawn. That's it, all I've ran into that hasn't worked, other than the occasional chat lag. I wouldn't call it anywhere near totally broken.

But the game is four major patches in and another 4 or 5 random downtimes and hot fixes and the game is performing worse and worse each and every 'fix'.

    Miscellaneous
    General

    • Fixed an issue where your characters could lose bank expansions you purchased, including the items in these slots.
      • Note: This will not return any items or slots lost prior to this fix. If your character was affected, please contact Customer Support.
    • Addressed an issue with guild invites that could cause latency with social systems such as guild chat, player-to-player chat, and long loading times.

    UI
    General

    • Changed the functionality of auto-stacking in guild banks. You will now have to stack items in your inventory before placing them in the guild bank.
That's the entirety of 1.04...what part of that is major?

So if this was random MMO number 5 what would people be saying about it?

The same thing they are saying now.

The IP and name recognition is saving this game from a complete disaster. Not to think it is a success by any means but because of its name the burial of it isnt completely 100% there are still enough white knights and fanboys and defenders because of the title of on the screen.

I've seen more people bashing the game for not being like previous ES games than praising it.

Its so obvious people arent even bothering to be critical anymore its like putting an extra bullet into a corpse that has been cut in half by gunfire.

While some people have actual issues in the customer support forums it appears about half are complaints about bots, typos, someone not understanding how the Imperial style bonus is applied, a general rant with no issue identified,  more people complaining about bots, a complaing about no global AH. That's the first page right now. Not exactly the end of the world.

Game is amazing. Game is also very buggy. If you can be patient, you will enjoy it. If you don't want to play something until it is relatively "bug free", best to wait 3-6 months.

Hmm let's see. The game has awesome questing and character building, with solid combat to back it up. No matter what it would be called, the game would do great.
  • papariospaparios Member Posts: 48
Mediocre as a game, horrible as launch, awful ZEN. If ESO wasn't a big IP it would already be in the bottom of the ocean.

The most fun I have had in an mmo in the last 5 years at least .

I actually think It being tied to TES is more damaging than good.  Sure the name has and will sell a lot of copies but it also confines it.  For one we all now that the whole premise of its pvp will be pointless when Talos shows up.  Now that could be years from now (real life years) but ultimately it confines the story with in a timeline.  Unlike other mmos StarTrek, WoW, and some what Swtor(3000 years or so before eps 1) who began their story in limitless future.  Not to mention all the expectations people who know the TES series have or are going to have regardless what people say("its an mmo not a single player game" kind of stuff).  So honestly while it might have helped it get box sales but the TES name might actually hold it back.
