  • When it's time for me to look at new graphics card I've usually been out of the loop for a few years. It is then I turn to Tom's Hardware.

They've made some pretty in-depth reviews of the two cards. Perhaps that can put you on the right path. Check it out:

Ati won me over 3 times in a row due to their performance and ability to overlock the shit out of those cards and still live 4 to 5 years before i buy a new card.

Nvidia while much more quit and using a little less power dont like the pedal to the metal mentility as i had blown up 2 cards so far :(

Thats why Ati has my vote.

In my son's pc i installed the 7950 sapphire boost and O.C. that card to 1200 / 1600 and it never let my son down :)
And with a stock cooler no less, it might touch 70 celcius on a warm day but mostly remains around 60 celcius when pushed in Battlefield / high demanding graphics games.

I am using the 7970 ghz edition and O.C. it to its max and its still doing its job.
No artifacts or blue screens, it seems Ati cards just like to be molested.
Spank it like you mean it !! :)

So for the time being i have no desire to buy an Nvidia card yet, altough this may change in the future.
But never change a winning team i gues :) !

I would naturally go for the 780 GTX. I've never had a problem with Nvidia cards, they're a great company with some great customer service. You'll get an amazing card that will last you for years to come without (usually) having to worry about "I my graphics card broken again"? All of the above are from my years of gaming along with some mates of mine.

In saying that, I did try an AMD card once. It was perfect until about 3 months down the road. It continued to over heat. No idea why, I took it back and it was replaced. I got a new one, same thing happened. Take this with a grain of salt though, I tend to be a VERY unlucky person when it comes to technology. Anyway, hope I maybe helped ease that decision.

Have fun and long live PC gaming!

nVidia all the time every time. About every 4th card I end up trying an AMD card only to have constant driver issues. It feels like I spend more time tinkering with drivers then playing. And I am to old for that. I don't have that kind of time any more. Plus recent nVidia cards run much cooler and thus quieter as well.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Current: BDO
Looking forward to: Crowfall & Chronicles of Elyria

+1 Ive had the same issues with about three ATI/AMD cards all crapped out or had driver issues.   Had a 500 series gtx and now a 780 gtx and no probs  I run everything butter smooth at 2560X1440.

For gaming, go with the 780.  Not only do nVidia drivers seem to be a lot more stable, but their cards aren't getting screwed up by the bitcoin people jacking up prices.

    You make me like charity

I'm with the NVidia people as well.  I bought my current system and was trying to get a 680gtx, they were out of stock, so I decided I'd get the 7950.  I had less than a 10% overall boost from my 460 oc'd gtx (basically a 560gtx).  I decided to finally ship it back a few days later when 680gtx were in stock and it doubled the 7950.  Not to mention the drivers for ATI/AMD are garbage in my opinion.

Sapphire or MSI optimized AMD GPUs all the way because unlike most people who complain about AMD cards I do not cheap out on the worse possible thing: the company that optimizes and handles adapting the drivers for your GPU.

You can also get a free game key on Sapphire Video cards, I've been using Nvidia for so long because of Physx but then I tried ATI just to test how powerful the R series.
