To me it felt like a ten year old game marketed as new. It does break from the WoW clone mold but hardly does a good job of it. I wouldn't recommend buying it until things improve considering the game is sinking fast atm.

I love UO and Darkfall but my honest opinion based on the little information you've given is that Darkfall won't be for you. It's a pvp game, and the pvp is fast-paced and very twitchy by MMO standards. There are a lot of people who don't play the game for the pvp, they play it for the harvesting and the crafting, but that's not very typical. Again, it's very much a pvp game.

It's much more sandbox-y than other MMO's, but not nearly as sandbox-y as UO, so if you're a UO player coming into it with certain expectations, you would probably end up disappointed.

However, if you do decide to try it, I'm sure my clan would love to have you, seeing as how we're called OTG (Old Timer's Guild). Believe it or not, you wouldn't even be the oldest member!

Darkfall: " since you buy it sight unseen".

Actually you can do a search on it for videos using keywords Darkfall Gameplay, looking at videos that show actual gameplay experience, so you get an idea what the game is like by watching others play the game.  this will show you what type of activies you'll probably end up doing, the graphics, and give you some insight into wether you would be interested in this game.  After that you can look at reviews, specifically metacritic, to get an overall view on what people said about it both positive and negative.  Metacritic gives you reviews from all reviews in one aggregate review, a combined score.  You also have user reviews from that website.  Its a useful tool to determine if you would like it, and can weed you out of lemons.

The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.

It's a pretty twitchy game. But its also good for someone who doesn't mind a slow pace. Its not as slow paced as it used to be, but its still there somewhat. Im referring to leveling/skilling up, harvesting and all that. Even if you aren't the best at twitch play youll be useful in larger battles, and there is lots of other things to do. Just always keep in mind that if you are in danger and the best way to protect yourself is to run, or rely upon said twitch skills lol.

I no longer play the game due to a few factors that I personally don't like, but it may be an okay game for you.

I'm an older gamer and will forever be considered an average player in Darkfall.  It has what I enjoy though which is mainly an open word pvp game with full loot.  Death with consequences.  Sieges are really fun as well.

AV has just given the community a bunch of buddy keys for a two week trial, so if you are interested ask around and people may give you a key.

You might like Mortal Online, its an open pvp sandbox and a bit less twitchy. First person view only tho...

Economy is a big part of Darkfall.  If your twitch skill is in decline, then enter the other meta game in Darkfall.  Enter politics, form alliance, send spy to enemy clan, finance wars, supply weapon + gear, finally operating ships, cannon and soon to be released siege weapon doesn't require twitch skills.  Yes twitch skill is important, but there are many other ways of playing this game.

For a lot of abilities, the twitch doesn't really matter that much. It might be hard at first, but with a little practice I think you'll be okay. The key to being good at the game is managing your stats, and having a good comfortable hotkey setup for all your abilities.

You'll have a lot of actions and abilities to hotkey.. so I'd also recommend atleast having a decent mouse with extra buttons on it.

Generally speaking, Darkfall has an older player base (25-40), but still has a lot of high-intensity PvP'rs.  I'd probably suggest that new players hold off until the next wave of DFUW patches are out, but here are a few things that DFUW offers that few recent MMO's do.

    1) Manually aimed (no assist) combat

    2) Full-loot

    3) Meaningful territory control (No flipping back and forth of keeps every hour)

    4) Seamless world

    5) Diverse economy

    6) Completely player drive factions and politics

    7) Naval combat

    8) Very few "protected" areas.  Open PvP almost everywhere.

    9) Massive player driven sieges

    10) Friendly fire

The average age of my clan members is roughly 35.  We don't see to many kids.  When we do they usually own everyone (being an FPS game) then get bored and quit the game crying.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I'm 35 and love df, if you find it twitchy you could also try eve online. But there are less twitchy combat roles and its not as twitchy as, say, league of legends.

It is an easy game to get "lost" in because the scenery is pretty and also as others have mentioned you don't need to play just for the pvp especially as an alignment system is coming soon which will curtail the random ganks.

Large scale pvp you will easily be able to find a less twitchy niche to fill.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

there;s also another game you might enjoy called Wurm Online

Check it out, it's very NON twitchy, has full loot PVP as well, best crafting and building of any mmorpg and minimum 500 people online at any time

I review lots of indie games and MMORPGs

    Tom

You can play the game for free this weekend. If you miss this weekend you can always ask for a buddy key if you register on the forums and ask in this thread:

    https://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?389775-Buddy-Key

This allows you to play a 2 week trial. If you dont like twitch combat at all it might be not for you since you also have to fight Mobs like in a shooter. However if you can get past this you could become a hunter who hunts mobs for certain ressources that you could sell on the market. But while you huntyou are always in danger and its up to you to listen to the enviroment
