Developers are realizing random invites doesn't help you test your game it just gets a bunch of tourists looking around. People paying that much does run the danger of getting only people who will blow smoke up your ass about how great everything is but at least it's going to be people who really want to be there.
I would never pay for an alpha but I never sign up for them when they're free either.
Some people see this as paying $150 for alpha access. It is. However, there is more to it than that.
You get a 3 month sub and $75 worth of cash shop items. That's $120 right there..... there are other 'perks' included too.
So why would YOU, and you know who you are, keep saying you're paying $150 for alpha access?
Because it is 150$ for Alpha, what if people dont want that other stuff that comes with it ? and why did Trion only add Alpha access to the most expensive package ? use your brain my friend. to get Alpha Access you need to pay 150$.

If you dont want the other stuff then odds are this isnt the game for you. You need a subscription to own a piece of land...If you own a piece of land then you probably want it to look nice so you buy the currency items.
Odds are people who dont want the other stuff will just wait for the release so they dont have to spend any money.
They are catering to people who have spent time watching the videos. Have studied the game. Visit the forums to get all the information and watches the progress.
They are not catering to the lazy gamer who plays betas as if they are a demo. Not helping the developer at all and later complaining when it isnt what they wanted.

Use YOUR brain. You don't only get alpha access. It's not $150 for JUST alpha access.
Why not look at it like this. You are NOT paying for Alpha acess. You are paying for 3month sub, $75 worth of ingame cash shop items, a cloak, some armor, a kool glider, some teleport gems, and some crafting items. AND look, alpha access is included for FREE!
alpha & beta, 3 month paid sub, in game cash worth 1/3 of 150$, 4 days head start(most important) - i`ll say good deal for someone who is a newbie to a AA world. I`m getting a Gold one just cause playing AA RU.

Tell me wiseguy, why are there no Alpha on the other packages ?
Alphas are seriously buggy so as I see it, they should pay me and not the other way around.
But that is me and people who really want to support the development and aren't afraid of bugs (and have $150 to spare) might get their moneys worth of course. It might be less buggy than many other alphas since the game is released but I do remember beta testing Lineage in the west and that was still a pain in the...
One point: This is 'alpha' but it's a pretty good 'alpha' because it's a pre-established game porting to this side of the world. Sure, stuff needs some work but it's pretty solid so far as much of it as I've seen.
(I'd say in terms of condition it's more of a beta than an alpha)
As to why there is only one package to allows Alpha Access, there is a limited number of Alpha slots.
Put your mouse over there word Alpha, it says "Play in Alpha before Beta begins, While supplies last".
That part smacked of 'fishy' to me. I'm curious if there will be people who can't buy the alpha over time because they've run out or if it was sales 'motivation'.

Listen mate, let me educate you. We who have bought the 150$ pack are whales. Let me tell something because ive been a whale for over a decade so im pretty sure i speak from experience. I wouldnt have given a single fuck if the alpha invite wasnt there, i would still have payed the 150$. Because i can, because i always get the best thing that is offered to me. You can try to rationalise this however you want and it might be true that SOME people bought it only for the alpha but the reality is that people who normally buy this shit without thinking about it are normally much much more wealthier than you and wasting this kinda money(in my case too), affects me in no way what so ever. This might be harsh for you to accept but im pretty confident this is the truth. The alpha is just a bonus to me

I saw it as there are a limited amount of people that can test on one Alpha server and you would not want to sell Alpha access and people not be able to log in all the time.
But what you said could be just as possible or even both together.

Its simple really, 150$=aimed at 1%.
You can put it the way you want, its still not right, Trion could have made the Founder package $15000 and added a brand new Toyota in that deal (btw its a very good deal) It still doesn't change the fact that because Alpha is only on that Package you HAVE to pay $15000 to gain access to Alpha, also why did they even bother having "Signup for Beta" on their website when they clearly barely used it.

Because there is a limited amount. They are not going to spend money on servers right now for 1m people to join up and crash the servers. They are paying a small amount to keep these people on the servers while they fix everything. Servers are not free.
They have the signup for beta because people right now are playing in the Alpha. and will later down the road be given access to the beta. Similar to how all betas work. This isnt some mystical thing that just started happening. Only a small group of people get in at the beginning while they sort everything out and when less and less things need to get fixed they add in more and more people. This way they dont stress the servers as well as not having people come in and experience a buggy game and just leave forever.

If the people in my position started to care whats good bussines practices we would be a bunch of hypocrites. I applaud you for caring about good consumer practices, but the reality is that the pack was never aimed at you it was aimed at people who dont care for that kinda thing. Its the job of a company to try to reach to every possible demographic they can reach to expand. Theres a market for the 150$ pack and its us, the ones who dont care and got the money.
Wow..just wow. They saw you coming. And haha "not everyone has or if you dont have $150 lying around." Cute.. really cute.
Ok the way you talk its like you dropped a few grand yet its just $150. You gave your self all the reason to do it. The key..the clue is the last part in your post should have been the only reason you needed yet it was the last thing you talked about. Red flags fly up on things like this yet theres always someone out there
Its funny. So many haters. So many people who are so tight on cash that $150 for a game is unheard of.
OP is right. For Patron Time and Credits, its not a bad deal. I did it as soon as it went live. If I had it to over... I would do the same thing.
Its a fun game. I dont mind paying a small amount extra to play now. Even though Im playing Wildstar as well.
If you dont like the game, great. If you do like it, great.
However if you end up not liking the game (which will be most people due to the type of game it is: Korean with PvP central to the game) or move on to a different game you dont get a refund for that stuff.
Want to charge 30 bucks for alpha access? Then do that, charge 30 bucks.

Knowing Trion it was sales motivation.
I dont doubt there is a cutoff number, but its probably something like 25k which they know would never be reached. So they arent lying, but they arent being honest either. Which is EXACTLY how Trion operates. They don't lie, yet they are probably the most dishonest MMO company.

Its not so black and white as that you know.... I love the game and really want to play it (as does my spouse). I also want to be able to have the same advantages as others, however yes 150 dollars is quite a lot of money. Some people have families and spouses who play games together. So, its not just 150 dollars its actually 300 (in my house). So, when you have things like mortgages, car payments, utility bills, cell phone bills, personal property tax bills, IRS tax bills, pest control service bills, home owners association bills, food budgets, etc ... I could go on... 150 isn't exactly a drop in the bucket. Not saying I can't pay my bills or provide for my family and that I couldn't work it into our budget but the point is - its not exactly "cheap". Please don't act like 150 is nothing and just everyone should be able to afford it.
Perhaps I only want alpha, beta and headstart access without all that extra vanity stuff. Would be nice to have a cheaper option for that. I guess you could say the 50 dollar one is sort of that but it still 100 dollars for myself and my spouse. I just find it a little presumptious that in order to get a slight advantage in a game I have to sacrifice a car payment just to get it. The other part that is rather disheartening is that they want all this money for a founders pack and then there is a paid subscription so you can get the better features of the game and then there's a cash shop. Yes you can still play the game F2P - but at a severely hindered experience.... I mean stop trying to bleed people dry. They probably only do it because they see these young people who have no family to support or lots of bills who love throwing away money on twitch streamers (I've seen individual people donate hundreds at a time) and pretty costumes in game. So the company says "hey, I bet they will throw tons of money at us if we jack up the prices on everything!".
