Founder’s Program Philosophy

http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/founder’s-program-philosophy.7244/

Here we are! Regarding the vote- would you like to see Stretch Goals for the production, where as we get more Founders, we are able to add new features and content to the game?

First of all I am going to present briefly the underlying idea behind the Founder’s Pack system.

A founder is a founder, and independent of the amount of money invested every founder will have a default reward list including early access.

We are not going to create tiers for our Founder’s Packs, but we want to let you increase the size of your pack as you wish. Yes, you will be able to invest more money and buy more options.

We also want to offer you rebates and bonuses for buying Founder’s Packs as a group. We want to support groups of friends just as much as solo founders.

We are creating an open pack system, meaning that you will be able to hand pick the options you want in your pack. Since we are going to update the founder pack options list regularly (adding more options to each category), we believe that it is more fair and more fun if we allow you to change your mind as we release each new update. You can continue to change and adjust your choices until the start of Closed Beta, and we will give you plenty of warning.

The mechanic for building your personalized Founder’s Pack is simple and elegant. You will have a points limit in your pack and you will select the items you want up to your limit (yes like building an army!). You can remove an item from your list at any time, until Closed Beta, and select another one of the same value or under. The system will stay open until the start of Closed Beta where your selection will become final.

PS: We are looking for constructive feedback so please avoid conversations and debates in this thread; use another thread or the conversation system. I’ve asked our fearless Houman to be sure we keep the thread on track. Thank you!

Here are two ideas for a Founder incentive:

    Idea A - unreleased classes/factions

WH40K is advertised as launching eventually with a subset of four factions, with the suggestion that additional factions will be added after launch (e.g. Necrons).  What would be FUN and a real incentive would be to allow Founder's to access and play a limited example of characters of a new faction before it gets released officially and/or a new class for an existing faction before it gets released.

A Founder would be allowed a special slot for this special character, only one per account, and it would be offered on the basis that it was a beta character, e.g. the Founder would understand and accept that the character may be wiped at any time.

So, for example, a Founder may be offered a chance to play a Necron Warrior before the Necron faction itself shows up fully developed.  This would be chance to not only get some live playtest and feedback on the character, but also for the Founder to have some fun being unique for a while.  Or the Founder could be offered a chance to trial run a new class like Chaos Noise Marine.

For gameplay purposes, new classes of factions would fight as part of their parent faction.  New examples of a faction could spawn in a particular location and would have no impact on the faction war - they would just be for local color and fun, sort of like intelligent AI monsters, hostile to all.  For example, Founder players with Necron warriors would all spawn from a ruined Necron temple and anyone who went there would be fighting not just Necron NPC but also some live Necron players mixed in. Or Battle Sisters can be the special characters, but they would be at a Convent.

I think people would love the idea of playing unreleased races and classes even on a limited basis.

    Idea B - Monsterplay

As a Plan B alternative, you could also just take the Lord of the Rings Monsterplay approach and allow Founders a chance to play as "intelligent" versions of monsters at particular locations.  The characters would be stripped down versions of PC characters, with limited skill sets and advancement.  They would have set respawn locations and would not have too much functionality beyond being a menace in that area.  This would allow Behavior Interactive to do some really interesting things, including with races/factions it never intends to release as full fledged PC or factions.  For example:

    - a dangerous jungle can include a tribe of Savage Orks, e.g. Founders playing Savage Orks in that zone

    - Tau and Kroot can defend a base against all comers, even though there is no Tau faction yet in-game

Again, these would be limited to Founders, so you wouldn't have a ton of them running around.  But you could easily see "guilds" forming of all sorts of interesting groups (the "monsters" of a particular type should all automatically be placed in a game-created guild to allow communication, etc.).
