While F2P version is inferior to Sub, it does mean that you can Download this game for free and then spend 15 bucks on the Sub.

I have never never expected this Money grab scam from Trion.

You talked about labor points before, but since i don't how they work or how Trion plans to monitize it, i can't comment. But if they do affect gameplay that much, i don't want to see paying players getting a massive advatnage either. But i'll wait to see how that goes.

Regarding the Founder Packs, still not cash grab i can see. he game's F2P, no paywall, completly optional, everything looks good.

And as i said before, i too hate this idea of paying to "test" the game, but unfortunatly, it's gamer's fault. Trion didn't start it. If the game is being properly tested, both in Alpha and in Beta, than that's all that matters.

Otherwise, the release version will suffer the consequences.

Yea, I got the feeling Trion are broke.

Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language :)

This game is free. You are paying for $150 to test their game for them. You can't even disguise this as a pre-order.

This has historically been a free service until some asshat made it part of the business. You get access early, in return you test the game for them. It has always been a mutual partnership, not so much anymore.

And how do you know this will be good?

The game CAN be played for free, but it can be playd more optimally if you pay the sub. Capiche?

The few "f2p" games I've played I ended up spending some $ on anyway. So they were'nt really free after all. Most "f2p" games are only free untill you decide you don't like it and quit, OR, its free untill you decide you really like it and need to spend a couple of bucks.

You get $120 worth of measureable value with your $150 purchase, in addition, you get some other items who's value is harder to determine.

I can understand why some people would think this is a bad deal because I consider myself to be a well rounded, tolerant, educated human being capable of empathy and understanding(and apathy). Why can't you see why some one would want to jump on this deal?

Would you guys be just as mad if they didn't include alpha/beta access but had the packs for purchase for the rest of the in-game perks? I personally don't even care for alpha/beta cause it all gets wiped anyway. I just wanted the bonus perks, though the ability to try it out in alpha was nice. I would have waited until closer to release had they not included that, but ultimately I probably would have still bought it for the special junk.

It stinks just like the SOE Landmark cash grab.

If the game is bad and you know it's going to fail, get as much as you can upfront, then let fanboys defend you.

I'm not saying AA is bad, but this is the kind of thing that makes me think it just might be...

I would agree with you BUT this is standard practice in MMO world these days. Selling alpha/beta access, tier style rewards for the more money you spend. Everyone is all pissed off over this but its the players fault why we have to even talk about this. Like i said in another thread, You want someone to blame for this, blame the current crop of FTPers. Remember when Betas were use to be used to find bugs and actually test the game instead of it being a preview?

If there is a demand there will be supply. Yesterday I went out with my two girlfriends for lunch and I had my 12 euros handbag that looked cute and I loved it. My friend had a Moncler I think it was called. Something like may be 900 euros the handbag. I would never buy something like that even if I had the cash. I do not actually get this handbag market swear to god. Shoes I can understand since I pamper my feet but handbags are beyond me. Same with phones I use them for just messages and calls when Ia m out. So the cheapest smartphone is what I get while my friends are changing theirs every 8 months.

If you do not really want to play this game so badly there would not be a complaint about gouging and such. The free to play market is really killing these companies. They know sooner or later their games will have to go f2p so they make hay while the sun shines. Just wait a year and get into the game when its cheaper .Otherwise shuddup  and  pay.

It would have not have given such a strong impression that they are preying on the weak if they would have done it that way.

It takes one to know one.

Well that's really what it's all about isn't it? Being able to play the game now is worth $150 to some people, and if they have the money, who are we to judge their spending habits for a hobby they want to spend money on? I think people who spend thousands of dollars on coca-cola memorabilia is a waste of money, but do they think that? No of course not, it's their hobby!

    You are absolutely right!

    ----

I am not the one telling someone how to spend their money but if I read that this is a great deal then I have to question their ability for rational thinking and mathematics. These are simply cash grabs to get as much money as possible before people realize how bad the game really is.

Thats like asking why anyone buys anything anymore. I can get most games for free. Why would I buy it, or anyone for that fact if they can get it for free? Because not everyone is a dick and likes seeing more games produced. If we all just stop giving money to these company and take everything for free then they wont produce anymore.

Almost every game, besides online games, but even some of those can as well, can be pirated but people still pay for them. It doesnt make them suckers or the company money hungry.

Got the founders pack for 109 gpb yesterday, worth every penny imo. No ones forcing anyone to buy it, and when you break down what your getting for you money I think its very very good value , I paid nearly 70 gpb for ESO and that was no where near as good value as this.... especially as you get a great mount in Archage for practically nothing.

I know its a lot of cash for some peeps, for me personally gaming is my greatest hobby and is money well spent.

Plus I'll be able to have the Battlemage I have always wanted to build in a game , the Skill system is just awesome !  ^_^

It should include special perks like a founder house, current perks are shit.

Anyone who pays to beta test a game isnt thinking too much. It should be the other way around, they should pay you, to beta test their game. If people wasnt so desperate to play a game before it comes out, they wouldnt charge people to beta test games. Of course they will charge people to beta test their game, because they can, people are paying for it, why wouldnt they charge for it. Its brilliant business for them. I wish people would stop paying money for pre-access and betas, and stop preordering stuff, it makes companies lazy with their work, they just need to hook people in with some trailers that isnt even gameplay footage and people will give them money. Meh.

Yes company needs money to run business but there has to be a fine line too otherwise they can even sell alpha for 200 or more bucks.

It is as if companies are testing how far and deep they can go into your pockets. And so far the limit has not been reached. I expect these things getting even more expensive..because hey they need money.

Not that they share their financial reports with public and give us details on how much of money they actually need to run their business efficently.

But hey just shush and give us the money (as much as we ask) because we have a business to run right?

They can price the alpha and beta whatever they want. The game in the end will be F2P, if there are people out there that  have zero patience or alot of disposable income then I don't see why they shouldn't exploit them.

Actually they sold Trove alpha access for like 3k $ if i'm not mistaken. I doubt they want to test anything, they already know that people will pay for it.

I'm playing the game now, so on top of everything they are giving away with the founders pack I get months of Alpha/Beta to play in as well.

I play games to have fun, having fun playing AA if for some reason you do not like to game go find one you do, unless your fun is bashing games in forums then you are in the right place.

This game is Amazing to me and I'm sure it will be to some others as well but not to everyone.

They are not exploiting anybody , there is a word most people are forgetting about here  and that is   "choice" , I chose to buy the founders pack , nobody from Trion came around to house and put a gun to my head ... Exploitation is nothing to do with it.

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten to put exploit in quotation marks=) I was not calling selling of alpha and beta exploitation. Like I said, I think that they can do that if then want. Developers have no obligation to let people play their product before release. Anyway the beta testers from the free alpha/betas are for the most part useless. 99% of them don't even report bugs, that is why every developer and publisher even have their own internal testing team and in addition to that, hire QA firms. At least if someone pays 50-150 bucks then they will be inclined to report problems.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but for those now in the Alpha, how developed/playable is it at this point? And when does the Beta stage begin?
