Agreed.
I have not seen one game launch that didn't have an incredible amount of flak. There is always going to be more negative than positive posts here and it will usually always be worse than the previous game launch. If you are lucky your game launches within the same week/two weeks as another MMO or expansion so the hate is evenly dispersed (or one of the two titles becomes more popular to hate).
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Considering how quiet things are this close to launch, I'd say that Carbine has a big problem on their hands. The fact that people aren't talking about WS (good or bad) seems pretty unusual with just over a month to go before it goes live.
I honestly don't know one person who's planning to play it at launch. The general sentiment seems to be that they'll most likely stick with whatever MMO they're currently playing and pass on WS. Most of these same people at least gave ESO a try and some are still enjoying it which makes them even less likely to jump into another new MMO right now.
I dunno, being of the radar might not be so bad. Expectations killed many MMOs and people have a lot less judgment when they try a game they havn't been looking forward to for years.
They still need the word to spread once the game is out though, but for now keeping low profile ain't bad.
This game is getting almost no attention, far less than ESO anyway. It's now not far off release and still almost no interest at all.
A lot of the complaints aimed at ESO affect this game too, so do you think this game will fare better or worse? One of the main reasons I initially wanted to play the game was the updated wow style characters, now that wow is updating all their models that seems less of a pull though.
So yes, will it get as much hatred or just go almost unnoticed?
RED = absolute bullshit.
As others have said, the lack of posts (especially from this site) are likely a good thing. It's the 'second-coming' games that get the most posts and the most hype. This post seems to want to gel-up hatred for W*... which is sad.
Wildstar will have it's own pile of problems when it launches. It will have just as many people calling it bad. Bugs, exploits, and probably server crashes. The only difference is I will be enjoying ESO still.
Originally posted by jircris Sadly every new MMO sees this strange wave of haters..ESO has them and when WS comes out they will move to it then when the next mmo comes out it will go to that one. It has been like this since the dawn of mmos but has gotten worse of over the past 12 years or so.
Eso got it because its so dam bad.. the game is Extreamly Bugged and badly designed.. more like a singleplayer game then a multiplayer game and also its far to easy and to little content..
Eso is pretty much already dead.. cause of the massive amounts of bugs and so
Hatred on this site for new releases tends to be very consistent. A lot of people here are arm chair developers who think they are just so much more clever and smart than the professionals who do this for a living.A lot of what they want has either already been attempted and failed or isn't possible yet.
I think it won't get the same amount of hatred. I get the impression WS' developers weren't bumbling around in the dark when designing the game, so I expect the core design foundation of the game to be a lot more solid. Combat also looks more fun.
I think it will receive less attention since it's not a big IP like Elder Scrolls. But I also don't think it will be a major success. I think too many have had enough of this kind of theme park game MMO, and for players that haven't, WS has so much competition.
I think there will be some hate, though, just not as much.
Nah more than likely it's love/hate fanboy/hater ratio will be inline with typical mmo's of today. ESO's handicap was the IP they saddled themselves with combined with the target demographics they chose to pursue.
EDIT 1/2 the "drama" about ESO has nothing todo with gameplay merely it's vision of the IP. /EDIT
Off course it will, but the problem is there is almost no interest in WildStar. None. Even Aion clones like ArcheAge is getting significantly more interest at the moment, it is that bad.
It will get hate just like every other MMORPG, but not to the same level because it is extremely small. The hate will come from the fact that it is an extremely generic MMORPG that really lacks content, especially for small groups.
And if this weekend's beta is anything to go by, optimization and bugs and cheats will be all over the place.
There's no reason for it to get attention, because WS is literally WoW. I really could not believe it when I played it; from the low res graphics, to the environments, to the way the NPCs look and act and even speak. it is a true clone.
I know that people have been comparing new MMOs to WoW for many, many years. But this is the first time I have ever thought that the comparison is 100% accurate. I guess Carbine decided, for some inexplicable reason, that they were going to use their old Blizzard experience to attempt to out-Blizzard Blizzard.
This game is getting almost no attention, far less than ESO anyway. It's now not far off release and still almost no interest at all.

My only guess is that people aren't really excited about yet another WoW clone. Most excitement seems to be for ArcheAge. I also have a feeling Wildstar is not going to get much positive feedback once its released.
I guess it depends on how much the ESO fans want "revenge". I'm sure Wildstar forums will be filled with some hate as well though my gut tells me it will be largely from ESO fans. Just a gut feeling though. Nothing more.
Well honestly no, because I don't think nearly as many people have even heard about Wildstar in comparison, much less have very strong feelings about it either way.
You take a series like The Elder Scrolls and make an MMO, and it's not perfect, people will rage because there are a LOT of fans. Just look at SWTOR for another example.
Wildstar might have an advantage because it just popped up out of nowhere and a lot of people haven't dedicated years to other games in the Wildstar series (of which there are none).
I feel most are having fun that are playing it and not here complaining. The rest for the most part see a polished game but decided its not for them and have no need to complain. My two cents anyway.

No, simply because ESO got so much hate due to it being a bad elder scrolls game. The worst ever as far i was concerned, To me it just felt like a wasted Opportunity to do some thing with an amazing ip but instead they went for a cash grab before f2p. Very shallow and anti climactic experiance.
Flying a little bit under the radar might be a good chance for Wildstar. The expectations on ESO were sky-high and they never had a chance to meet them. The ammount of hatred, trolls and fake-accounts on this site made a new peak at the ESO start.
Wildstar will definitely get better critics than ESO, just because the bar isnt set so high and the internet populism crowd is not in "rage-mode" yet. Is it the better game? Well, not for me, because i like the world and the pace of ESO far more.
I think it will sell pretty ok and will hopefully be a good game. In the beta i didnt really like Wildstar, but ive only played 5-6 hours of it and thats no time for a MMO. Tera took me also some hours more till I started enjoying the nice combat system, despite the cheap lore and grind quests. Maybe Wildstar will do too. But i dont think ill be there at start. Summer, ESO and world cup are just enough to do in June/July.
Edit: Oh, and will get the usual hate in the beginning like every other game. People who never played it will come and try to drag it into the mud like every other game. And people will vote it a "1" on Metacritic, because the logo is blue and not red, because they dont like the sub or because angry joke told them to do so. Lets be real, most gamers are a bunch of f... twats.
When a games enjoyment comes from mostly questing and really nothing else, and made extra long to make it feel like an 'mmo' but then be hindered by elements counter to that design such as too many trash mobs, simple boss mecahnics, bugs, and main quest line bugs, and then to play end game after 100s of hours of questing to only have to over come another 100s of hours doing vr 10 to do the next phase.
Its too much of an exp grind with mediocre story.
The combat is alright, and nothing that feels fluid and is also not balanced properly with animations being spammed to insta kill.
They put too much into story and not much anywhere else.
Who would even attempt that? Swtor kind of did that, but imo swtor is way better than eso.
Good news for eso players who feel scammed wasting their money on eso but have not tried swtor... they can ateaslt try swtor... but dont let swtor f2p fool you. its not really f2p, its just a glorified trial... its basically still a p2p game that allows players to at least try their game for free and subscirbe when they want full perks or login as f2p/preffered players whenever they want.
Anyways... without turning this into this game is better than that game. ESO was very easy to walk away from even though I wasted 100s of hours playing the game... I would normally feel some kind of compulsion not to let that time to go in vain... but eso somehow broke that train of thought and feeling...

ESO didn't gather hatred only due to popular IP. Charging premium price while lacking feature and content, was also a big factor, coupled with serious duping bugs on launch.
Wildstar, while sharing some issues with ESO (boring starting zones), practically has every content and feature known to MMO world and does not juggle with cash shop items like ESO does.
It will have it's hater population like every MMO does, but if "WoW clone" and "I hate W* graphics" is the best they can do (and it was so far), I think the game will be off to a good start.
i think one of the few things that can cause rage towards Wildstar (at least to me) is how generic some parts of it feel. Other than that the WS beta is actually more polished than ESO's current state.
This game is getting almost no attention, far less than ESO anyway. It's now not far off release and still almost no interest at all.

I think the game is average at best. It's not worth bothering with and will probably die even before ESO goes belly up. It's just too boring and the while i was in Alpha/Beta the controls and fighting was just as terrible as ESO. Questing was as boring as in ESO.
----
It will go the same as with ESO once released. People will complain and whine. ESO is a much bigger target though because it has a legacy that is weighing heavy on it.

I will answer your question with another question..
Will Wildstar release as a buggy mess like ESO?
Amazing how players expect a new game to have cutting edge gameplay and graphics, and yet still launch with absolutely no bugs! And not just a game but a multiplayer game which adds even more layers of complexity,
Wasn't Windows Vista a buggy mess at launch? In fact haven't most Windows versions been so? And they probably had far more people working on them as well!
It ain't easy folks, and its easy to sit in the armchair and criticize. The fact that many enjoy the game despite this, means they have done a reasonably good job IMO.
You know its very important to read carefully before replying. The guy you quoted said nothing about games releasing with absolutely no bugs.
But there is an acceptable limit to which one can tolerate bugs and in that case patience varies from person to person. I have played a lot of MMOS at release and so far AOC and ESO are the only two MMOS which really tested my patience where i had to just give up.
I have tested Wildstar though and its not a mess like ESO.

It may be a great game but after GW2 I just can't bring myself to support that company.
No.
Don't actually think ESO has had much hate, rabid fanboism or widespread attention tbh.
However I think Wildstar will have even less. And the World Cup will take its toll as well, in stores, in media, on the net.
