[Column] Star Wars: The Old Republic: Finally! Quality of Life Improvements

BillMurphyBillMurphy Former Managing EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 4,565

Hands up if you've filed a ticket or simply complained about the fact you stomped the final boss in Black Talon or the Esseles flashpoint and just as you were going to jump back to Fleet, the game crashed.  Tomorrow, Star Wars: the Old Republic will release Game Update 2.7.1, announcing the start of Ranked Warzone Season 2, Double XP weekend this weekend, and oh my Giradda, they say they're finally fixing that bug.

The enthusiasm of the author for SWTOR almost makes me want to fire it up this weekend and -finally- get my sorceror off Taris...

Been a long term goal of mine to turn Ashara Zavros to the Dark Side!

Good news about the bug fixes.  I'm probably in the minority, but I wish they'd have an XP disabler.  I like taking my time and going through the missions on each planet.  I got to level 22 just on Korriban and now Balmorra is a grey planet and even Nar Shadda is green.

You're right!  This article was originally scheduled to go live tomorrow, so when we moved it up we forgot to change the tense.  Fixing now!

How? I(especially as a free player) have trouble getting enough XP to be at the needed level when I leave. As a subscriber I get a bit ahead but not by much. O.o

I'm with you 100% on the xp off button. would have been a good feature along with downleveling to play in old zones.

I really like the way Rift does this. I'd be all for it.

I am a subscriber as well so that and the rest XP helps, but most of it was during the last double XP weekend.

I haven't play this since GW2 came , but from the looks of things this game has came a long ways from where it was when I was playing. Good job Bio ! Glad they pulled through after a year of drama and hell. Thumbs up !

SWTOR is steadily becoming a very diverse and fine game.

Shows the important point, that MMOs will always lack stuff in the beginning but more importantly need to evolve over their years. Too bad locusts never will understand this.

    Hodor!

Sounds interesting. Maybe I will give ToR another whirl soon. The only problem is that I am in an every-gaming-second-available-must-be-spent-in-D3 phase but perhaps I will take a little break.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

I have been a subscriber since launch. The game has come a long way from the disaster it was at that time. It may still not be the perfect game and may not please everyone, but it is a good game with something for everyone. I still don't like crafting and the restricted ftp model (my cousin is ftp, so I know), but overal the game is enjoyable.

Making the gree gray helixes and Rakghoul canisters bound to legacy will please a lot of people , I'm sure it was asked for many many times in the past. You do all know they have released gree legacy offhands too right ? So send all your gray helixes to one character to get an offhand or two. The only thing it negates is the " I have a gree hamster ball and you haven't " crowd. They do these QOL improvements quite often so not sure where you get the "Finally" part from OP.

    Cheers,

    BadOrb.

'Finally' comes from how long the crash-to-desktop bug for the two starter flashpoints had been around.

That 'back to the fleet" bug can be avoided by hitting a certain key to get out of the jump screen before the bug happens. You still choose the back to fleet but then I think you can hit esc right as it starts to jump. Been a while so I do not remember the exact key. I guess it's really a moot point since they fixed it.

Hmm....think I'll fire this one up again while I am still in limbo waiting for something to grab me. Not like there is much to lose and they do seem to keep working on improving things. Worth a shot at least.

I wished I knew this trick LOL. Black Talon is my favorite FP. Glad they finally fixed it.

I'll gladly come back to this game when I no longer have to pay money for all the skill bars. I am an enthusiast of nearly all MMOs, and as a developer, I cut game developers slack when no one else will because I know how hard these products are to create. But I think forcing people to pay for the UI crosses a line.

Ok, rant over, good luck guys!

This just in - the SWTOR Launcher is still a worthless pile of crap that thousands of people can't get to work. EA - we'll screw you using hob-nailed rubbers and smile with each thrust!

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

This is the exact sort of thing that should be a f2p drawback.

Although since exp is ridiculously fast in swtor some might consider this a bonus instead of a penalty.

Another game that could have been, most of this stuff was brought out in beta or in the first few weeks and behold! They are now getting around to fixing them. I tried to help this game in as much as possible when it first came out but the developers didn't listen to me or anyone, oh well to the dust bin of failed MMO's you go. ESO batter up!
  • HordequesterHordequester Member UncommonPosts: 28

Ya know what pisses me off? I get banned for saying ESO sucks IN REPLY TO SOMEONE ELSE SAYING SWTOR SUCKS.
