I have finally downloaded and installed this game.

I am shocked. I should have done much more research first. the game cost me around £15.00 for the download and a month sub. Well to be frank, Everquest is free.

If Everquest is the earlier game, how can this be so far behind? i mean come on i feel like i am playing a bad browser game as far as graphics go. i have bumped all graphics up and still find its like a bad version of minecraft! i seriously feel conned haha! i am really shocked that a game like this has lasted so long.

All i can say is that it must have some amazing game mechanics to have lasted as graphically, even for it's age it is poor. Everquest is a few years older than this but looks incredible against this! Have i paid for a bogus Asherons call? becuase the gameplay doesnt give the screen shots justice. I am going to carry on because i have read so many people are fans of this that there must be something better when i get away from the training tutorial.

First i am going to check i havent been conned and downloaded the wrong game.

If you're only looking to try the game out, then yeah the $12 sucks for you. EQ isn't completely free to play. EQ has an item shop. There's no item shop in AC, which I prefer. I'd rather pay $12 a month and have access to everything.

If you are just now starting AC, you probably won't like it. AC doesn't hold your hand and it's complicated compared to new MMO's.

They update Asheron's call for free pretty much every month with new quests, items, and other content.  They've been doing that for 13 years.  That's where you money goes.  No expansions to buy, no item shop, no downloadable content.

Its for sure the only MMO that i have paid a monthly sub and really feel like my money is into the game. monthly updates for 13 years adding content quest and so on is money well spent.

Everquest came out the same year as Asheron's Call, not years before.  I think it was somewhere are 6 months or so.

There is no way that Everquest original has better graphics then AC, maybe some of the later expansions.

I played both games at release and there's no way Asheron's Call had better graphics than Everquest in 1999. Everquest was a big deal at the time because it was either the first or one of the first games to require a dedicated graphics card. Asheron's Call made some sacrifices by not requiring one and also having a seamless world. I enjoyed my time in AC tremendously, but there's no way I can agree AC had better graphics than EQ. They were at best below average even by 1999 standards.

I think both games had similar launch graphics.

I dont think EQ gets enough credit for how much work theyve done graphically over the years.  Just compare today's EQ with AC and the difference is pretty astonishing.
