Community so far?

eyesadieyesadi Member UncommonPosts: 56

For those of you privileged and lucky enough to be in this fabulous game, whats your thoughts on the community so far?

I'm already starting to see the WoW ish mentality...........and so hoping for a bit more maturity.

What ya think?

For me.....a good community is kinda key to my fun factor.

And I REALLY am loving the game.

I think it's gonna blow WS and ESO right outta the water.

Think of faction chat as Barren chat and disable it without a second thought. Trial chat is fine because it's fun to read. But really, first thing you do as you log in is to disable faction chat (if you already have a guild).

I usually am not a big social player , but this game seems to be helping change that , I have been helped out by so many different people in this game. Everyone seems very nice and always willing to help out , hell, I even had a stranger give me some gold so I could buy a bunch of Strawberrys for a quest to get my Donkey. !

Unlike you , I have not seen any evidence of the Wow-ish mentality as you describe it ( I can only guess you mean immature players etc ). I just hope it stays this way, although I do have fears it may deteriorate upon release.

Too early to tell how the community is. 95% threw $150 at Trion to get in. 5% belong to the lucky few who received an alpha invite.  Not a good representation of the "global" gamer community.

The biggest guilds I have encountered were "pro" ganking. While ganking is a fun thing to do in a sandbox game, you have to take in account that AA knows a lot of artificial hotspots for PvP (and thus ganking). You can avoid these hotspots, but you will not be able to get Gilda Stars, which will get you the houses and really cool ships.

So far i've asked a lot of questions and received a lot of great answers. A lot of the community has been very helpful. Are there trolls? Sure, but not the majority from what I have seen. Trial chat is hilarious as well.

Being that this is a free 2 play game - you will definitely see it at some point. Even with a sub model - there will be people that are simply immature, and there to ruin other people's day for whatever reason.

Mature players can afford the alpha, but once it goes F2P expect the worst.

    Probably even worse than WoW

I review lots of indie games and MMORPGs

Last night there were a lot of elitist pricks in the general chat, calling people scrubs and carebears, which was pretty crappy.  On the other hand, the rest of the people online jumped on them pretty hard and they shut up afterwards.

Those kind of people are always there, so it's a fantasy to think that we won't have to deal with a ton of that.  Especially when it's F2P - it just means that anyone who wants to come in and start acting like their inner 12 year old can, and will.

The first game I ever had to actually setup a new tab to remove channels. Trial is the worst I have seen from the 32094587357 "dont drop the soap and get _________" jokes to other, not even remotly mild sexual, racial slur.

Faction has been touch and go. I had it enabled for 2 Days and it was fine.

To the people concerned that "oh dear, and all these people paid 150 to be here and will be here when game launches, there are alot of free Alpha testers, I am one of them.

The community is all colors, really.

These aren't kids who are acting like asshats, these are "adults" with more money than good sense.

Faction chat is often a mess, and unusable as is any other World chat in any other MMO.  I stick to guild chat mostly, but I do enjoy the antics in Trial chat as well.  The community, outside of chat, has been great so far.

I think that the community isn't too bad.  I've met far more nice people than I've met asshats.  There was an incident last night where I dueled someone who beat me and then proceed to say things like "YOU JUST GOT REKT!!!"  over and over, but I found this more amusing than anything else lol.  So I mean, there ARE idiots in the game, but it's nowhere near the idiot level of say the MOBA community.

One really positive aspect is that stuff like the trial system makes you feel a lot more "plugged in" to the community.  It's hilarious to see the same dudes show up in court over and over and hear them make their claims to innocence each time only to get jailed haha.

Whoever "Helios" is, I think he must live in prison lol.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

This.  Faction chat is terrible and not worth reading unless you feel like a giggle and all the trolling going on.  However, I have met some really great random people and everyone in my guild are very mature and helpful and I'm in a very large guild that has pretty much been mass recruiting.

Off-topic, I can't get over how awesome it is to play a game of this size.  Three continents full of areas and I can go from one end of the world sail across a huge ocean to the other end of the next continent without a single loading screen.

Imo i dont think there are many games that have a special community. Most of ppl anyway are going around and play many games. Its rare anymore to see ppl stick with a game for long. So i dont care much about communities, but instead only for the quality of a game.

I think LOTRO is the only community I have seen without people acting like idiots.  That being said if being called a scrub or carebear in mmo chat bothers you then you probably shouldnt be playing online.  I do not care what people say in chat, the only thing that bothers me is the constant gold spamming.  FFXIV was terrible for a while, but its much better now.  I was really tempted to get ESO, but from what i hear with the bots and spam I will be staying away for a while.

I don't know about LoTRO community, but if its true then this is a really good point for the game :)

Game will be F2P and will have a lot of griefing in it. Don't expect anything good out of its community when its released.

I hopped over to the Archeage boards today looking for something to do and figuring I might throw them $150 bucks and take a peek at the game.

The forums are chock full of the biggest group of assholes I've ever had the pleasure of reading posts from in any game.  PvP plus F2P plus who knows what... testosterone flooding the airvents just makes this game unfortunately look no fun to me.

    Disgusted.

I'm sorry that MMO's have attracted the worst human traits the species has to offer.  I'm sorry that Trion might take another beating on this one just because the community is so awful.

    No bitchers.

    This is the truth.

The chances are low that someone acting like an ass or being an idiot is actually a kid.  These are your 20-30 year olds and could be dubbed generation asshat.

I've been playing LOTRO since beta and I am a founder, I also have a lifetime sub... I've seen just as many idiots in LOTRO than in any other MMORPG I've played. LOTRO having a "oh! so fantastic community" is an urban legend, even more true since the game went free to play of course (which at least halved the average IQ of the players).

EQ and EQ2 have the best communities that ive seen.  LOTRO is above average, but its got its share of asshats.  I would say something like Rift is probably average, WoW a hair below average.  And then there are games like TERA.

    The community is wonderful.

Lovely PvP players, nobody touches you before Level 50 :P
