Accessing the Russian server from North America (Instructions)

lalartulalartu Member UncommonPosts: 437

I felt like Trion went a bit too far with a $150 for alpha policy and asking the Russians to start banning American IPs so I decided to post a video on how to access the Russian servers where you can try the game for free:

Hope that helps those of you on the fence

wow did Trion really tell Mail.ru to ban NA ips to make them buy alpha access? When Trion only had Rift they were a pretty decent company, now they are showing the claws more and more. Thats enough reason for me not to give them any money.

I said it many times before and i say it again, Trying to force my wallet open actually reduces the chance of me buying anything.

If i cant try a game before buying it (when they are clearly selling it already) then im not buying it. IP unblock is a good way to see if i actually want to support them with founder packs or pre purchases before the game is even out. Oh sweet greed.....

EDIT: leading people to buy without try will only lead them to the hassle of giving refunds to those who end up disappointed.

EDIT2: ty for the video, ill try that out later today and see if this game is really worth paying for before its official f2p launch.

EDIT3: so XL did then, shame on them.

What??? Hahaha, no. Trion didn't. XL Games did. Read more info before talking bad about a company. I'm not defending them, for sure. Trion can ask all they want, is XL Games who decide to give the order of IP blocking in the different regions because is their product.

Thanks!  Great job explaining how to access Russian version of ArcheAge.  Totally agree with your last point.  If players start paying 150 for alpha this will increasingly become the norm and expected, if it hasn't already.   Yes, I criticize players who are paying the 150 for the alpha.

You seem very computer literate, which I am not.   The idea of using a proxy just makes me nervous.  Who runs this proxy?  Can my computer be remotely accessed?  Is it easier to hack this way?  It just makes me a bit nervous. I really dont understand any of this.  For those who understand all this it seems a great way to try ArcheAge without buying in to the alpha, so thanks again for the video.

Thanks for the video. Especially the russian alphabet tip, never thought about that. The registration for both the mail account and game account worked and I'm currently downloading the game which might take a while. But once it is done I'll update the post with if the actual game works.

    Thx again

    update:

login worked and I can play. But I didnt understand what the items do and which stat is which so it took a bit longer to get the english patch to work. This one works for items, stats, tutorials and quests:

Someone in the yt comments said they banned non rus IPs so also got a vpn (VPN Gate). Lost connection to the first server I picked but then selected another. Now it is running stable and I didnt have any lag so far. Once I find out where I can see the ping ingame I can give a number. The vpn server itself has a ping of ~50 (edit: from the EU).

Hey don't worry about proxy too much. Proxies exist to increase security and privacy, not vice versa.

The one I used is from Georgia and is pretty stable, so it should be good to use. It basically is like calling your friend on the phone and asking them to check a basketball game score because you don't want your wife to know that you're into sports again (true story).

Friend is the proxy. Wife is the Russian Archeage server.

Also, if you want to be extra safe, make a password that you don't use anywhere else and use it just for this game.

    Should work that way

So - worry about that proxy - unless is a reputable proxy service - many open proxies are a great way of stealing all of your account info.

In this case quite true, the aa.mail.ru page doesn't use HTTPs and as such your login information can be read by the proxy. Now you may or may not care about that, that's your prerogative, just be aware that it is possible. At the very least use a unique password.

They might sniff your pw but that is better than getting banned imho. I didnt use a vpn yesterday and now Im banned. Time for account #2.

But in general true, while running the vpn you shouldn't use paypal or something like that. Maybe even clear your browser cache/cookies before you use it. So that if you open a site by accident or forgot the vpn is still running, it can't send any data.

Im having a problem with this. So did all the video and everything.

Game is patched and ready to go. Or at least I think it is. lol.

I start the game up it gets to made with cryengine, shows a curser and seems like its loading a video and then just stops and closes. Doesnt say crashed or anything.

What did I do wrong or is there anyway to fix my problem?

Edit: I actually solved this problem by Ctrl alt delete, opened up the task manager and waited while it was loading. Came back a few minutes later and it was loaded up. Now to change it to english because i cant understand anything lol.
