Any games where questing/pvp are entirely secondary or optional?

Not against combat at all but i would love a game where players can be more less hunters or adventurers and not so forced to follow the same quest line and story of everyone else. A game where if you want you can choose to hunt, fish, gather and spend most of your days making goods to sale. Combat isn't the issue because harvesting nodes should have mobs/players around to fight to get to(Age of Conan had a pretty fun system where npcs would and often did ambush people whpo were gathering).

Is there a game actually like this currently or am i just hoping for something that doesnt exist?

I seen Wildstar had Settlers and Explorer type roles. Are these similar in any way to what im asking for? If so i might have to give the WS beta another run and see just how these roles play out.

GW2 you can level just doing dynamic events, crafting, exploration.  You don't have to do the main story at all or can do it after you level if you want.  AoC if you subscribe you get leveling points when off line so in theory you could grind and level that way.  Eve Online of course.  Neverwinter, once you reach a certain level all you have to do is login and prey to get xp.  Also Neverwinter and STO have player created stories, some which are just to grind levels.  It's been awhile but you use to be able to grind levels with space mission in SWTOR.

    WoW.

You don't have to do a single quest to play that game. There are people who play wow without killing a single mob, or level only by mining.

    Look it up.

Dofus and Wakfu might have some of the mechanics you're looking for. After the initial tutorial experience the games open up, and allow players to hunt/craft/gather and decide their own aims very freely. They are turn based games, and you'll either love the combat mechanics or hate it. But I'd say it's worth it to try.

Landmark might also be good for you once it gets a little more ready.

I been in the Landmark Beta once already. It is quite enjoyable as is and will only get better when mobs and what not are added.

WoW was fun but after buying all expansions up to Mist and leveling to 90 i dont think ill go back to it for any long amount of time.

Im probably going to grab another Wildstar beta key and check out the other play styles. Explorer and Settler sound interesting. Going to try them in the next beta if i get back in one. Also will probably just re-instal Fallen Earth and work on a crafter. That game had some decent crafting and you could actually level decently from it.

EVE Online is primarely gathering, crafting and PVP and quests are not essential to get by, infact most players would state that getting into a player corp and learning the trade market is the best way to earn money.  Also, all quests really are in that game is an easy way to earn ingame cash, it doesn't reward exp therefore you don't have to do them to gain any levels, infact levels don't exactly exist in EVE, just skills that you level up with time, no need for any form of combat or quest.

Nothing does it better than this game, you could play the entire game being just a farmer, crafter, fisherman, etc.

You could "Harvest Moon" the entire game and never leave your farmland

Like Urvan, I would also recommend EVE from a 180 degree turn from the norm. There is so much content you can make for yourself and with other players through interaction that its really astounding.

This is pretty much how Everquest 1 works. You level by killing things. Quests didn't come about in a more than epic fashion until the 55th or 56th expansion. You have to be someone excited about numbers in a chat box though, and think its ok to not be able to play much without a few other people.
