I'll start off by saying I HATE PVP. I only play PVE and I LOVE AA. For me (and probably others as well) its the randomness thats fun. The best PvE experiences are still scripted. Once you run through them no matter how long its no longer a challenge. Its no longer new. You always know the outcome. You may not know if you will survive it but the outcome doesn't change.
But with AA the outcome is based on character behavior instead of a scripted event. Maybe I do a trade run during hours when its quiet. Maybe I hire some other gamers to protect me. Maybe they double cross me. You don't know and that's what makes the game fun. That's why I feel it won't be boring. As as a self proclaimed solo'er in most MMOs -- this is one of the first MMO where I want a (good) guild. I see this game being all about the friendships you make. Making a grouping based game that isn't about the grouping directly, but about connecting with other gamers to achieve your goals.
Will I lose stuff? Of course. Will I be pissed? probably. But I also feel that risk pays off in satisfaction when I do eventually get the reward.
If you are a hardcore solo PVE'er like myself, I still say give this a try. Its not the scripted PvP in other MMOs and you have more flexibility around how you handle open world PvP that adds a new dimension to MMOs that can be exciting. Try somethiing different, and test for yourself. It is F2P after all.
Just wanna ask someone who has been playing the game a fair bit... I;ve been playing over the weekend, and there is something that I can't put my finger on, but the game feels unfinished in certain areas, like someone started to build a house but ran out of time so didn't build all the rooms. In towns for example, they feel like there are buildings missing or something...
I've been playing since Founder pack was offered. The systems underlying the game are admittedly awkward. As if it is missing a set of polish. But when looking at the number of systems and how well they work together it is easy (for me) to overlook. I'm only in the first few zones on the island to the right, and just making it to my first big city in the Tiger-something zone. So far its working for me, does not feel incomplete. I will say the housing is somewhat odd but its almost like it gives it character.
Again for the all the flaws I could point out, they are outweighed by how well they are carried out. For example, just walking down the path hearing a loud machine like rumbling. Took me a few minutes before I noticed the shadow and looked up to see a Zepplin fly over. WoW had zepplins too but it was not presented as realistic. To take that particular experience even further I found my way up a tower to get on it. Outside of appreciating the sweeping vistas I jumped off and glided to another town. Amazing. And this is the Alpha. I easily see Trion polishing this up by launch later this year.
As you can see with MMOs I'm all about the experience and immersion and so far AA has this in spades.
Obviously you know more than me so please feel free to cry about pvp in a game that from everything I've read makes it possible to not have to engage in pvp unless you want to.

Of course one can sit around in the noob zones to avoid PvP but he is trying to convince people that they can play the game without being subject to PvP which is a bald faced lie. The bottom line for me is that there is a difference between PvP and being ganked. So far my experience in this game has shown me that this game was tailor made for gankers. The justice system is a cool concept but it isn't a deterrent at all for the gankers. I hope Trion includes a monetary addition to the trivial prison sentences.
I put this thread out there to show how much excitement there is in this game its not about pvp or genkers. from a old timer of mmos i rember eq if you died you might lose your lv and if you didnt know where you died and didnt have a necro as a friend you might lose all your crap . Yes this game isnt as bad as that but it makes you slow down and think of ways to get where you want to go not just rush head on. theres not many mmos any more where you have to really use your brains and i understand theres that well it took me 8 hours to grow the crops and time to get to the shore and time to boat across sea just to lose my stuff cry cry well put on your big girl panties on and get over it that whats fun and have i repaid a few peeps hell ya!!!!!! so if you want your hand held go play something else .

To me wasting 2 hours of game play with nothing to show is anathema.
The single and only reason i play RPG games is because you grow over time from a pleb to a powerful character with slow and steady progress over months and months.
To waste hours and hours just for some high level goose with ocd to take away all your progress is a complete waste of time IMHO.
It sounds like there are a few players that like that type of game but man i can't think of anything worse.

A full loot game doesn't have to take up any more time than a typical "carebear" themepark. In fact, themepark games are typically the ones associated with mind numbing grinds.
I am not a PvP player, but Trion should NOT cave in to anyone. There needs to be games like this for those that enjoy them. Those of us who are PvE players can play other games (of which there are a ton of).
1. This game is not full loot pvp. The only loot that can be taken are trade packs.
2. You can't camp the trade pack turn in npcs with the exception of Freedich island (highest risk highest reward). The trade in npcs are in neutral ports if you are going to the opposite factions continent. There are also plenty of turn in npcs that require no risk to reach.
3. You can finish questing in pvp zones by waiting for them to be in peace time.
4. You can become a very wealthy merchant with out ever setting foot in a pvp zone
I am not a PvP player, but Trion should NOT cave in to anyone. There needs to be games like this for those that enjoy them. Those of us who are PvE players can play other games (of which there are a ton of).

No its not easy to camp. There is so much damn space to cover.

You have it wrong sir....it is the gankers how typically want an "I win" button, people who don't like your play style just want to have fun. The people who want to be able to gank and grief at will without risk are the "I win" crowd.
You can gank people all day long, and it won't have effect on them, since they'll be back to questing few seconds later.
Ganker on the other hand, can face criminal charges for killing players, and can be put to jail for hours.
Ganking isn't really what you expect in this game. Hence why a lot of players left Russian servers already.
The population percentage that actually enjoy the whole free4all ganking/griefing is tiny, stop pretending "a lot" of players quit over this. There is a reason why you people have not gotten your own game or even a server of your own in most games.....there are not enough of you.
But you do have your own game....it is called Darkfall. Only most griefers will not play it because there is too much risk for them.
I'm a pve carebear. Not much for pvp. I like to craft, farm, fish, and do some pve. SWG is my all time fav mmo. Yesterday, I grew some carrots, built a pack, started the long, slow journey to another region, explored a bit on the way, and was ganked by 2 higher level players. Lost my trade pack. But that was all i lost, well, that and the time i spent. I loved it. Was on my first jury too. Guy had a rap sheet 4 pages long full of murders and assaults. "Murder happens" was his defence. We gave him the max. 40min in prison. I loved it. Point is my experience was exciting, fun, and educational(w/in the game world). It made AA more than just a game. It became a living, dynamic world w/ danger and drama. Not another totally predictable ride on tracks. But don't get me wrong, those can be fun too. I enjoyed FF XIV for a few months. If you, as a player, can't handle "real world" risk/reward behavior, then this "game" isn't for you. For Mature Audiences only.
To be frankly honest here, a person's "Integrity" is measured by how they conduct themselves when nobody is looking. This game, and many aspects of the internet, are anonymous. This allows folks to act out as they want, without fear of consequences. You are as you imagine you are... Those who find enjoyment in ruining the day for others, and generally being a "sociopath" in game, is simply revealing their true inner nature. If they were to find themselves in an equally unfettered situation, I expect that they would act out in real life as they do in game. Their only "restraint" if they are honest, is self-preservation. If they saw that they could gank and kill, without a danger of being caught, or permanently killed, they would not only do it, they would enjoy the thrill of it. If we remove that thin veneer of civilization, we quickly find out who the animals are...

Higher level players/guilds are already starting to form trade convoys.
Ganking is not as easy in this game as it is going to sound once most people are at 50. Pretty soon the only way to make a profit by robbery will be have to be done in gangs (and even that, with risk).
Of course there will still be some people who gank questers and levelers because those few people are stupid and have manhood issues, but most would not see the point in it as there is no money to be gain from it.

Been playing DayZ lately, the players and game are kicking the crap out of me (after dying close to 100 times, and having to start over with nothing, full loot drop starts to lose it's appeal). I would still like the option to "Lose it all" if I wanted to, but would like to decide when that happens. A full loot continent would have been nice (but such is life). Will still give this game a try after things simmer down.

Do you believe FPS players are at heart murders, or RTS gamers are potential warmongers? I played Kano in Mortal Kombat...does that mean I'm subject to rip out a person's heart at anytime?
Here's one for you. When you are done killing 10 boars, cats, and wolves in your PvE game, do sit back and think that you could be a sociopath, which has high ties to animal torture and cruelty?

Today's PvP players are yesterday's PVE players that chose to stand up, say no, and fight back...
If you would at least try you will find that you can pvp too. Its a matter of repetition, order, and timing of the exact same skills you use in PvE. After you try it, you will lose. You might lose again. But believe it or not, you are improving at phenomenal pace when compared to your first fight. Of course players that out level you will be an impossible battle and you have to ignore fights like that. But like I said if you would at least try. After a few fights you will be the one standing over the enemies corpse, and then again and again. Then it becomes amazingly fun and even after a good fight where you may lose, you get a feeling of admiration for the foe that bested you. Fun PvP cannot be replicated in any PvE I have ever played.
You really should try games like this, because you are truly missing out on an irreplaceable experience.

Dropping a trade pack when you are killed is not full loot pvp, AA is not a full loot pvp game at all.
Even if you are killed and drop your trade pack, the hand in reward is split, so you still get some reward for the attempt.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
