Ship Sizes - E:D vs. SC

So I've been hunting around for this information, but I haven't really been able to find a decent answer. How big is the largest player-flyable combat ship in E:D? I've always wanted to be able to pilot a decent sized ship in these games, but generally it caps out at slightly-larger-than-normal fighters. What about SC? It seemed like you could pilot some decent sized ships-of-the line in that, but again, no definite info.

The best I could find was that capital ships aren't pilotable in E:D. That's fine by me. I'm not looking for station sized hulks, ala capitals or super-carriers in EvE. Just something that packs punch (maybe battleship or battlecruiser by the EvE metric).

Had seen a comparison between ED and SC ship sizes, will update if I find it.

In that second image, are those pilotable or just in the game? I know the smaller three are, just from watching videos, but what about the larger one?
  • The Anaconda will also be pilotable. It's available in the Alpha now, but costs 3,8 million credits. The Panther Clipper I believe is bigger, and should also be available at release.

Capital ships are even bigger but not available to players.

But are they combat ships or freighters? It seemed like they are freighters.

Anaconda is definitely a combat ship, it's very maneuverable (for its size) and has 8 hardpoints + 8 utility mounts.

In SC the plan is to have flyable Capital ships. Also they can be manned by multiple people. (Player flying the ship while others man the guns, repair stations, ect.)

It's subject to change but that was the plan. I doubt you will see that in the upcoming dogfighting release but for the final release its planned.

The Anaconda also has point defence turrets which can shoot down missiles etc. It's basically a mini destroyer. They are hard as nails to take down and will rip through a cobra in no time at all.

The Lakon is the biggest playable ship in the Alpha. For comparison the Sidewinder and Eagle have a cargo size of 4, the Lakon has 400. If you look at the size comparison next to a man it's about 10-12 decks high. Seeing it inside the hanger is a bit deceptive because there are different size hangers, if you have a big ship the station assigns you a bigger pad.

  • Anaconda has some blind spots a smaller, more manoeverable ship can exploit, though.
