Hello there. I have just seen this chart goig viral on internet and im quite surprised.
I did not tried the game in beta so i cant make an opinion by myself and i need your help.
I love very difficult games and raiding (used to raid in wow wotlk and love it). I also like big pvp battles (2v2 3v3 5v5 is not my thing. I prefer Gw2 Wvw).
Do you guy think the game is for me ? Shoud i preorder? The fuck i dont know what to do since i cant try anymore
Do you guys know if there is a free trial like in World of Warcraft ? or some recruit a friend stuff?

Regarding the chart, Wildstar is peaking because it's in open beta and about to launch. The increase in internet activity is due to things such as people looking up cookie cutter builds, improving the game's performance, things of that nature. Once the newness and the honeymoon period dies down, it'll level out.
As every other game ofc.
Retention is the goal for every subbed mmo and imho WS has a better chance to maintain a bigger retention number in comparison to other games, mostly because its polished and it has lots of quality endgame content.
Another reason, at least for me, is that Raiding keeps ppl subbed in the long term more easily than any other activity in a mmo, and Raiding in WS is superb.
Last but very very important is their promise about fast paced content addition. Not daily quest etc but new zones & events, world bosses, dungeons, raids, arenas, bg's etc
But in the end time will tell, as always
*Btw Carbine Dev team is maybe the best Dev team i have ever experienced in a mmo.

And more likelly, if you do not like it.. You are not a wussie. You like actual real tough games, not little pink and purple, bright colors on children book characters, following the big yellow arrow.

I'm all for Wildstar and can't wait for release in a few weeks. I've already preordered and have taken a week off work to have fun with the game. However, try changing "The Elder Scrolls Online" search term to ESO and change the time period to the past 90 days on that graph for a accurate picture. I don't particularly like ESO and I didn't purchase it, but there's no reason to try and spin misinformation through a carefully manipulated graph.
Well, don't want to be a dick, but you actually can't do that. ESO is not = to Elder Scroll Online.
Go to google.com and type "ESO" ( yes , include the " " ) , and you will see what I am talking about. TESO on the other hand, might be more accurate, but the best and most accurate term for Elder Scroll Online is ... "(THE)Elder Scroll Online" .
PS: The " " in a word or a line , means google will search only for that exact word/sentence and nothing more or less, so you can't tell google to search all ESO terms from around the web and then say that all searches are related to Elder Scroll Online.
Only way is to tag "Online game" but wildstar did not have this thing so i guess the guy just put search term for everyint . Plus the little help toolip say that search by term are better for specic search. I agree that people may search with Eso or Teso too. Result are quite the same tho. Brutal Drop.
Actually it could be worse with your method so nvm xD

That's not really the reason why you can't go with ESO. You can't really search a 3 letter term on google. Many couldn't just miss-type something and the result will be ESO, let alone the links you've just gave.
Yes, it is worse with TESO , but , like I said, best term for ESO is Elder Scroll Online.

Meh, I just don't like cartoons and cartoony treadmills that have been done to death.
And I don't call themeparks hardcore, I get that in games like EvE or Darkfall,..
Mind you I can go play Hello Kitty Online, play it for 24/7 and say I'm a hardcore player, so much about the word hardcore.
Why so serious? Do you even have fun being a gamer? Games make me happy!!!
As far as cartoon graphics. I think cartoon like graphics age well( look at wow), compose to games like Aion/Tera and etc... look aged over time. Yeah they looked good when they came out but now they look dated.
I never understand this argument whether its what you wrote or what Bill has also wrote in the past. To me, if something is a cartoon, its already dated..so I don't agree with this assessment. I would rather have a dated realistic look than a cartoon look because to me cartoons are lazy development and dated by nature.

You haven't tried it have you? If entry level dungeons are kicking veterans' teeth in, yeah it's pretty tough. I ran those dungeons a lot, and ok, clearing is rather simpler, bronze is also simple, silver takes some effort, and gold is pretty tough. Randomness can screw you over pretty easily.

That argument is pointless as the cartoons already look dated and if you don't like them, aging doesn't apply in the first place. Both styles suffer from lack of new technologies that improve things like AA, Tesselation, shadows and textures, somthing every game has to deal with no matter their art style.
Wasn't an argument, It was my point of view. So move along.
I always find it funny when people pick an abstract term such as "hardcore" and try to apply a very specific meaning to it, but it never ends in something productive.
One thing you will need to understand is that people will use any word in any context to make themselves feel/look better.
Hardcore is a heavy word and is usually associated with above average. So of course people are going to throw it around and use it any chance they get even if they themselves are not truely hardcore.
On Topic: Just because there are more people searching for Wildstar does not mean there are going to be more people buying the game. Hell, hype for the game on here has been dropping quickly. Went from 2nd to 6th.
Originally posted by gwei1984 You can call Wildstar many things. But describing it as hardcore is a bit weird. It is just as streamlined as a thema-park can get. This doesnt mean its bad, but its not hardcore^^
What does being streamlined have to do with being hardcore?
How are Wildstar's veteran dungeons not hardcore?
This is the problem with using this term to describe this type of game (most AAA MMO's). A small portion of content is all that is typically designed this way. The rest of the game is made for the masses, which means it will be basic and easy.

Sure, now people will not trust a google chart . What's next? Curiosity is not on Mars right?
People (haters) don't get it , and they will never will , that GW2 is the second most popular/played MMO in the west.
Live with that or cry us a river ..
I'm not impressed, it's B2P after all, free stuff will always be popular, but that doesn't mean they are making a lot of money since only the minority actually buy stuff on the gem store.
Edit: If you count the east FFXIV is actually more popular than GW2.

Well, SWTOR makes about twice what gw2 does, and WoW makes around 10 times as much yet the chart shows gw2 has 3 times the numbers SWTOR does and 60% of WoW's numbers. So yes, something clearly doesn't pass the smell test. Given WoW has over 7 million subscribers and SWTOR has over a million players that means according to the chart gw2 should have around 4 million active players... that would mean almost everyone who bought a box is still active...

I don't get it, why people use such services as TRENDS without actually knowing how that service is working.
Also , when I say about GW2 being second most popular/played MMO , I was referring as a NON FREE MMO.
Also x2 , please stop using short-cuts for your beloved MMO's. Use the entire term , because that's about it. Words like SWTOR, ESO , LOTRO , etc may also mean a lot more then the said games. ( Sorry , in the eyes of google, not in your all-mighty eyes ).
EDIT: It seems I miss-read it somehow ( Not going to delete what I said above, as maybe it will help others to read better with TRENDS ) :
1) Please provide with official, and when I mean official, I mean EA's official numbers, ONLY for SWTOR. Not combined with FIFA , or whatever was writen in their last report.
2) WoW ( not the game, like woooooooooooooooow ) . What are we really talking here? In terms of Wow vs GW2. Making 10 times more then GW2 ? ( Actually is around 6 times ) . If yes, then you do know that with this line "10 times more then GW2" you actually also included WoW Asia which is .... 60%+ of Wow, right? ...right?..................right?
3) You do know that , the TRENDS which we discussed here is based on West . West like .. wild wild west. In a West where Asia is not included. Got it ?
So here is about WoW , GW2, SWTOR - West Style. Yes, WoW West is ... not that popular.

Soo... Where did you get those numbers, it's NCSoft profits or GW2 specifically? Is it revenue or net profit? But my point is: popularity doesn't scale linearly with profits on a game with the B2P model on the contrary of a sub game where populatiry more closely resembles its paying customers. Who's actually saying it's not nº2 in the west?

Actually man, they are simply repeating what the guy on the dev speak video said. You should watch the dev speak raiding video, it's pretty entertaining. Can't wait for this game .
Games tend to garner more interest near launch. Combined with it being talked about a lot with open beta and all, it really gives the game a chance to skyrocket up to the top. I will say its nice to see how it managed to shoot up in its popularity without needing to throw money at marketing like most of the other big name games have been.
Maybe it can influence publishers that spending a majority of the game's budget on marketing isn't as great as they think. Probably not, but it would be nice if more money was put into development over marketing.
I honestly think that WIldstar is aiming for a particular crowd. I'm going to use the word "hardcore" but let me preface that with this:
We were the ones who waited in line and picked up the first copy of World of Warcraft.
We were the ones that were the "first" to be in this place, what would be the next "phenomenon" of gaming.
We were the first ones who succeeded at killing that first"epic" boss after many nights of failure.
We were the ones who saw World of Warcraft grow stale, suffocating on it's own burden of chores.
We binged on many titles, but none could replace the king.
Wildstar aims to bring in the raiders. The ones who want the real challenge, to feel it like we felt it then. They've changed up the game (a little) but bring new elements into play. I personally failed to see raid content during beta, but I've watched what is available, and I say that I am ready for the challenge.
If I lose sleep over this game because we can't down a boss on the first "Friday" night raid night, I'm probably sold. Let's hope they've put their big boy pants on.
