World of Warcraft: Class Accessories Latest Artcraft Subject

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

World of Warcraft players will be interested in the latest Artcraft posted on the community site. In the article, the design team talks a bit about class accessories that are being worked on, including tomes, quivers, packs and more. The accessories are designed to give players even more customization for their characters than is even now available.

Hi, I’m Chris Robinson, senior art director of World of Warcraft, and welcome to a special edition of Artcraft focused on an idea that’s still quite early in the inception phase: class accessories. For a long time now, we’ve felt that our character classes could use some more visual customization options, and we’ve heard you might be thinking the same thing. When I play WoW, I see Hunters pulling arrows from thin air, firing shot after shot with no visible clue as to where that ammo is coming from. I’ve heard Druids speak fondly of mystical objects called Idols, and listened to Shamans talk of Totems. And my Paladin seems to have developed a strange hitch in his gait due to the lack of a Libram at his side.

odd example - considering Blizzard eliminated ammo 5 years ago with patch 3.1

Good old days... deleting Iron Arrows for loot...running out of arrows later in the instance.

I personally think this is awesome, more customization?

On the Blizzard forums pretty much everyone is loving it as well,

i can't believe the WoW hate on this website, nothing but complains and negativity...

Accessories were around before 3.1.  They got removed because carrying a quiver full of ammo used one of your bag slots.  You didn't have to ditch your arrows to make room for loot (since quivers only carried arrows or shot), but rather lost an entire bag slot instead....same with soul shards for warlocks and etc.  If you ran out of ammo you were  not very prepared by leaving without a full or big enough quiver.  However, loosing a full bag slot was a big disadvantage to warlocks and hunters and your inventory was significantly gimped compared to other classes that didn't have to burn a bag slot for ammo or shards.

Now it seems like the devs didn't remove them because of hindrance and complaints but to make it look like they are doing something to bennifit the next gen WoW players by re-introducing some thing "new" .  A game mechanic that was there from the beginning...now just re-imagined like it's some fantastic new idea.  Why didn't they just do this from the beginning with patch 3.1?   Oh, wait I already answered that question.  Crafty Blizzard and their trickses.

Accessories were a great idea, and the first legitimately good thing I could have looked forward to in WoD until I noticed the part about locking the best ones behind yet more stupid raid bosses.

The very height of things made for casual players, but of course it has to be put into raids.  Because, you know, raiders don't get the lion's share of attention already.  If they aren't getting their hourly ego stroke, they'll start whining.

More of the attempted return to hardcore.  I couldn't be less interested at this point.

I am pretty sure it was mentioned in there that this would be attained through in-game means at this point in the planning. But seeing as this is half a expansion if not more away. You might be right.

This have been a good conversation

I say it again thousand of times: I LOVE being able to buy cosmetics from a shop. Cosmetics and ONLY cosmetics skins are THE true thing to buy from a shop. You buy a piece of art. It's beautiful !
