    With Episode VII on the horizon I wouldn't be surprised to see a little cross-promotion. It might be nice to see another Movie-Spawned race instead of another Cartoon one. Though I suppose Rebels will be out much sooner...

    The lack of races in SWTOR was what bothered me the most about the game. The excuse that not being able to speak basic was the reason that they couldn't have more exotic races like wookies is pathetic. Just say its a money/time thing. You could have subtitles for non-basic speaking aliens. I would be more than happy with that. Give me rodians or wookies as playable and I would resub instantly. OOO or give me a droid playable race. You could always restrict certain races to certain classes. Why not a droid race for the bounty hunter class?

    This is especially bothersome with how little of a difference there is between some of the current race choices. ITS STAR WARS. So many options to choose from.

    I think EAWare said it somewhere that if Voss do come in game as playable they will be added in a expansion with their own race(not class) storyline and the story start exactly where the expansion starts, meaning that the voss race may not have any voice over for any of the older fp; they may be able to do them but only be "observers" during conversations. and also voss may have their own classes instead of the regular classes. but judging by how lame the development is going on these days in SWTOR, i DO NOT think voss will ever make it into the game.

    In other words, most of the really cool races would require actual work on Bioware's part to add into the game, so since Bioware is full of cheapskate, lazy gits, the only ones we can expect are those which will take no more than a bit of copypasta to add.

    Seriously, look at the majority of features asked for in any given Q&A session. 90% of the answers given for them consist of, "Well, that would be technically challenging and take a while, so we're not going to do it."

    Bioware has become one of the laziest game developers around.

    I would love to see Nautolans and their ingame models are pretty good as well, my money would be on them.

    Quarrens have been done before in the KOTOR games by the way (though not playable).

    A new race could drum up a lot more interest in the game.  Personally, I would play the game again if they added the Togruta as a playable race.

    I'd like to see them as a race too. And didn't a Star wars game already use them once and just had them speaking basic ? Either way subtitles would be fine for people who want things like wookiees and they don't wear gear so it wouldn't have to show any visual change anyway.

    I think a lot of people would accept a little suspension of disbelieve to get the races they wanted.

    Making the droid as a playable race would actually be interesting and NEW! Still not close to the game I want though.

    This is incorrect. As a Modeler for 12 years and digital Artist of 16 years I find this article filled with a lot of Rhetoric and Nonsense. Whomever wrote this really needs too do their research, especially when your talking about something as technical as modeling in video games because every engine is different and can be as flexible or very limiting to the artist depending on it's capabilities. The Hero Engine is quite flexible in terms of modeling, cutscenes, texturing and using resources for the developer. The only thing that the Hero Engine lacks is that it can only handle so many objects and resources in a single zone or "area" in the game world the developers create with the Hero Engine IE "No Open World"

    That's why everything has to be instanced and phased. Most gamers do not understand this concept which is not their fault at all because not all gamers are modelers, designers, or artists who have worked with developing video games. I did in my early and mid 20's. I'm in my 30's now and you may remember such games as Endless Ages, AVP2 when I helped a team of gamers model and skin in game models for their un-official expansion pack. I also worked on Quake 3 arena models back in the day and created many that were listed on the mods database back in the late 90's, and early 00's.  Most players think the Hero Engine is terrible simply because it doesn't support "Open World" which really is not a very good argument because the Hero Engine is one of the most stable and economically friendly engines out there. It's the very reason why the development team chose the Hero Engine in the first place. It was discussed by Bioware before the game came out and explained their reasons for using it.

    The Bioware Developers, Artists and Designers could put in any kind of race as a playable race into the game, especially races that are already put in place as NPC's. The adjustment for the cut scenes, story scenes is not as bad as you claim it is. It still would need to be adjusted yes, but very little in terms of "how much" It would take many months if not half a year to edit all the scenes but make it so that all the humanoid and alien races would show in the cut scenes. You also forget to mention that some of the cut scenes in the game were poorly done and still have not been fixed.

    And the last and most important thing you forgot to mention was that it really has nothing too do with what the developers are capable/not capable of doing. Iit's the question of how much resources, money and time it would take to do all this. The big issue has nothing too do with how much work but how much resources the developers have to work with. You forget that a portion of that money goes to EA as well. EA has Bioware by the balls now since they sold out the company.

    You got to remember Bioware used to be a "more" independent company when Black Isle and Bioware were working together. They were able too be more flexible in their development outline for their games because they were not relying on another company's to support them so much as they do now with EA. They need to keep this game going with enough resources and money coming in each year. Or EA will drop them like a sack of potatoes for their funding of the servers. That is why the Bioware developers are careful about discussing major projects like this.  It was the same with their space project. This new housing project was funded mostly by all the subscribers and players who had purchased things through the cartel market. Not to mention all the stock investors.

    If the players ever see a new race added to the game like the Cathar, it won't be for awhile and it will only be more "humanoid" race because it will cost less and require less resources for them in the least amount of time. Not because the developers just "can't" do it. The developers can do it. The Hero Engine is capable of producing more assets, races, and tilesets to the game. It's just that Bioware does not have a huge group of people working on the game when they did in the development phase. It's just the company is trying to save every nickle and dime hoping everyone has a job for the next year. Which obviously shows Bioware cares about their employee's, unlike most company's do. Gamers really have no idea how much money and resources it requires to make and let alone keep these games running.


    And Just so you know guys there are Jawa Jedi's in the game already. There is also a Jawa companion and Jawa NPC's of all sorts of variations. Female and Male already implemented into the assets of the game :)

    SWTOR should innovate by introducing the Space Elf! Who needs bow and magic when you have phasers and science! Wow... imagine all the Legolases and Drizzets running around with light sabers and phasers, and Leia imitations in chain bikinis...

    I'd like to point out that it was officially announced recently that the EU is no longer canon (cue thousands of EU fanboys crying and damning Lucas and Disney for destroying their dreams of EU characters and EU storylines in the new series of films). Hopefully with ep. VII, more races are introduced, so that SWTOR can expand without violating what is canon.

    Listing a race that is in EU invalidates that race automatically. Bioware and EA have an agreement with LucasArts (now Disney) that agrees to adhere to the official races, while allowing some flexibility with objects such as speeders, personal ships, weapons, and things of that nature. This means that KotoR and KotoR2 are likely considered canon, as they tie in directly to SWTOR.

    I think it is fair to say that the following will be true: -

    • They will already be a companion race. 
    • They will need to act as clothes horses for all the currently available outfits (with the possible exception of head slots).  
    I cannot see Bioware putting in the extra work to create anything that does not fit the above criteria.
