    1.  False.  GW2 and ESO, and Rift provided authentication measures that eliminated the necessity for an authenticator.  Though even those methods are not necessary when the database is secure and there are no account hijacking vulnerabilities in the server software.

Hotfix will be going live for this ASAP.

This issue involves reporting a user's string with a "$" in it, which (ironically?) just happens to be almost exclusively in gold farmer spam (and not, say, during beta chat :/ ) .  It's likely a trivial fix obviously, so it'll be live when our build passes QA barring issue.

Hey while yer at it... fix yer forums... fix yer patcher that wont let me patch the patch of the patcher, and fix yer Que times.

    Don't be "that guy." :/

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Misleading, accounts are hacked because of client side issues rather than server side ones, and it doesn't matter what how well protected the database is, though here's a hint, they are very well protected. Authenticators help protect the user from themselves, either through poor password creation, or worse, multiple uses of same password, keyloggers and other information gathering malware that poor security of the users PC can cause. The weakest link is almost always the User themselves, so anyone who has a hacked account, in just about any game i've ever played in, its been their own fault for either not protecting their PC in the first place - and also not recognising when they've been hacked, and poor password creation/security where the same password or 'variations of the same password' are used for not just multiple games, but on various forums as well, particularly forums that claim to have addons or support the game 'unofficially' they can often be used to disseminate 'targetted' malware/keyloggers.

Authenticators are used to help protect MMO's from the single biggest vulnerability they have. You image

Followup to my earlier post:  Hotfix went live this afternoon, report away.   Sorry for the crash issue.

We've been banning gold spammers.  Not too bad yet, actually, but it'll get worse I'm sure (whereupon we'll ban more).

Queue times:  big spike of new preorders at the last minute means that we're running at a multiple of the concurrencies we saw during open beta; we've opened multiple new servers to meet the demand.  Yes, it's mildly odd that more people will pay for playing than will play for free*, but there ya go.

There are a few servers running w/o queues; when we see people move to them enough where they are at/near queues we may open up more for a given server type (PVE, PVP, regional, etc.).

We know that folks feel bound to play where their friends are already, this means a few servers in particular have seen some pretty epic queue lengths.  Folks not on those seem pretty happy overall, folks who queue for 6 hours to play, not so much (especially when we then bounce a server for a hotfix and they end up queued again)  No perfect answers there, but we'll work on it.

Stability's been quite good for the loads (any time we've brought the servers down it's been intentional for a fix), string of fixes today to deal with issues for various classes of users; queue time is the biggest widespread issue and we're tracking several others right now as well.  YMMV.

*yep, I know that people of course want to play when their characters will actually persist, but you actually don't see that pattern in all MMO launches

Same here. Crash when reporting spam, but actually nothing to report after the first tutorial zone.

    No gold spam, no bots.

Dagaffer ty for posting and updating the community. I think people rage when they're kept in the dark, so your info is appreciated.

That said, I still hate the Que times for Widow, lol

But you found it appropriate to utter comments like "EPIC LAUNCH" and "Gold spammers galore" .... yeah ok.

I haven't seen a single one in any of the zones.

I played for over 5 hours (on and off) yesterday on the US RP server and only had to ignore 3 gold spammers so far.

A farcry compared to other MMO launches, like ESO and FFXIV, where I had to ignore a hell lot more goldspammers every time I logged in.

So Yeah..... not too bad at all at the moment.

"Curb" doesn't mean "completely remove". EVE reported around 80% reduction with their Plex system, I know you are trying to grasp at anything you can, to try and bring the game down, but nobody ever claimed complete removal.

LOL why would I want to bring a game down?

Am level 9 and not seen a single gold seller yet.

Ok one thing I hated was all the gold spam and bots  in ESO as to why I quit.

Yet here I heard this (since launch) and went to different servers and played awhile. I only ignored 3. That was it. Yes I read if you try to report game crash so I just ignored. Still as of now.. not one gold spam on the servers I went on. Went from TOP FULL server to Ocean server.

Lol so this GALORE is ...well go see..not there.

Not a single goldspammer in europe...

maybe its just the Americans cheeitng and buying gold...  And the goldsellers dont deem european servers worth it,..

(just kidding)...  but no goldspammers in the EU(PvE RP server)..  thats a surprise

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Whatever dude, seriously. I came back and updated that is ended up not being as bad once I got out of there, give me some credit instead of slinging your holier than thou mud.

The launch was plagued with issues, this was just one of them....hence the "epic launch" comment. Get over it.

You must not be part of many launches. This was a very good one and has ran smooth so far. No huge crashes or down times, and when they do need to do an update they let you know ahead of time.

I personally haven't had one quest bug or any problems like that at all. I'm not understanding where you think "Epic Launch" should be used derogatorily, and/or think the launch was plagued with issues.

    Okay fanbois, you got me.....

Really though, the launch at the time was NOT going smooth with the delays in anyone being able to login and the 8 hour queues. At the time it was one thing after another....forgive me for being caught in the moment and posting a critical post of your lovely game here. I will tell you what I told the other guy...get over it.

Okay mods, can we lock/delete this thread now before these guys get a fanboi lynchmob together and come after me?

This launch was 100X better than Elder Scrolls Onlines actually more like 100000000000000000000000 times better you can tell Wildstar was run by professionals and ESO was not.

I have seen no gold farming bots, spammers, and my only dc occured about 3 hours after the game went live and I haven't dced since and I have never had to wait to login either, even got to play on the server I was shooting for too.  Fortunately we did not choose a server on a realm that was full already. There are several completely packed full servers and the game hasn't even officially launched.
