Star Citizen v Elite Dangerous

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask on your opinions on what you think about these two games.

SC has raised a remarkable 44 million dollars or 26 million pounds.

ED has raised 2.8 million dollars or 1.7 million pounds.

Hats a hell of a difference, surly SC cant be 24 million pound better game  than ED ?

I haven't played either game so i have no grounds to voice a proper opinion, i will play both games iv'e chucked 50 quid at ED because i use to play on a C64 when i was alot younger. will properly buy a freelancher which is 100 pounds.

Just interested in people who are currently playing both games even though i know that its early days, more so for SC and tell me how you feel on the matter that SC has so much more funding and how this will effect the differences in the two games.

SC graphically is pushing the absolute limits of the PC gaming universe.

ED looks good and is actually playable.

    how about that?

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

So what you saying is it cost 26 million pound more to make because its a bit shinny ?

Not the answer i was looking for.

  • Elite: Dangerous is being made by an established company and is one of several games in the works. They used kickstarter as a platform not only for funding but also for demonstrating the interest in the game. As such they have more resources than just the crowdfunding, but how much is unknown.

Star Citizen on the other hand is relying much more on crowdfunding. Chris Roberts had some investors lined up in case of a succesful kickstarter, but he dropped those because of the huge interest in the game, as he felt their funding wasn't needed anymore.

My suggestion is look at the games, and if they look good, back them with the minimum amount to get the finished game. Don't pay huge cash for worthless virtual ships or the "privilege of testing" a game you have no idea will even be worth playing. You can get a couple of great, actual finished games for the same price.

I'm reasonably close to backing Elite for the minimum pledge, as the game looks like it's shaping up quite well, but still a few details I need to see working in the game.

Star Citizen at least for me it's too early to tell if it'll be worth pledging, but I'm keeping an eye on its progress.

I have given ED 50 pounds, which to be honest i have never done before, but i was goner play the game come what May just for nostalgia reasons more than anything else.

I played Elite when i was 12 on a C64 that and rock and wrestle probably changed my life image

Where i have not committed to SC seeing as the game is to far away from release,  in theory does look amazing, if it works.

When i look at ED and the money its costing to make, it seems great.

I'm thinking how is SC goner make there game stand out 25 million pounds better, apart from saying its using state of the art graphics, i guess have to wait and see.

I would and i will play both.. what you back, and how much is up to you. SC is far away from release(2years+) and Elite could hit end of year release, or at least should be in a very playable state.

I played both all Chris Robets Games and Elite.. and i won't miss any of them. That's for sure.

Star Citizen isn't a game, it's just a dream machine where people get upset and then Chris Roberts hails his hand and makes a new ship delaying development even more and everyone buys it so he can make more money.  It's a hustle sim.  Working as intended.

This is an unfair and cruel comparison.

Elite: Dangerous is already quite polished and is due for release roughly this October. Star Citizen is not yet polished, but that's irrelevant because its release date is way into the future.

Elite: Dangerous is about creating a living breathing universe. Star Citizen is mostly about an 'on rails', scripted adventure.

You can't compare the two games because you're not comparing like-for-like.

Personally, I'm financially backing both games.

My personal opinion is that Elite: Dangerous will be better. This is only because I love the idea of having a huge amount of freedom, and Elite is all about exactly that.

I expect that people who enjoy military life would prefer Star Citizen because it's mostly about playing your part in a war.

    Thanks Mors.Mag

    I understand what your saying.

    Yea, i totaly agree

Elite: Dangerous looks more compelling with an open diverse way to play and the freedom u get...

SC looks like its more in: "u wana be a badass pilote" game... following you/him and how u build yourself in a miltary hierarchy
