why not ? I was planning to start with an esper. Would like to read your reasons.
I'm eating a lot of crow when I say I love this game. I was predicting it would be the same thing and ESO would be my main game. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong. Wildstar has been a pure delight and I'm addicted to it!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
- The feeling of movement is spot on, more than anything I have ever played in my life. Even single player games.
- Combat. Its an action MMO done right and with how movement is, its nearly perfect. There are just enough abilities to make you think and it forces you to concentrate on the actual fighting rather than playing whack-a-mole on your action bar.
- Difficulty. While you won't experience this at lower levels I can ASSURE you that it is indeed there, and its ready to destroy you in multiple ways.
- PvP. I hated this at first. So much that I refused to really do it at first. This is coming from someone that plays MMOs only for the PvP mainly. After getting used to it I find it much more enjoyable than any other MMO PvP I've played.
-Customization of Combat. Wow. This caught me off-guard big time. There is way more customization in your action set than it first appears. Especially once you hit max.....I can see many interesting builds coming out of this....and on a more extreme level.
- Customization of your character. Its transmog/costume/whateveryouwanttocallit. Its here and just as good, if not better, than most other MMO versions. It lets you color certain parts of your armor with an insane amount of dyes to purchase or find.
-UI. They improved this to the point that it almost feels smoother than a blizzard game in terms of dealing with things like the auction house and just buttons in general. So smooth.
- Housing. I don't really need to even explain this.
- Content. Its practically endless. For a new MMO this is insane, literally insane. The amount of endgame content, middle game, and even early. There is always something new to do other than questing or dailies. Always something to work for. Endless Progression, or close to it.
- Crafting. Another surprise to me and many others. You can actually make super-twink gear for level 30s even. Its amazing. Want to roll an alt? How about going to go buy that awesome sword for your now lvl 30 warrior to wreak face with. Which was crafted....by an actual player.
(Note on crafting, they can make such good items, that the lvl 30 stuff they make is about even with what lvl 45 gear can do)
- Community. A great community all around. World PvP happens everywhere. (And a bit of drama) Damn you Team Legacy. I will destroy all of you.
I could go on for a while longer, but I think this is enough for now. This game is above my expectations and is not because of hype. Because frankly, I wasn't massively hyped to begin with. (Except when I first got a closed beta key, but that wore of quickly).
They have made massive improvements to this beast of a game. It brings old and new features together in such a way that it feels right. It takes these mechanics and spreads them throughout the game.
All in all, I will be subscribing for quite some time, especially if they add more content every month....which I can hardly imagine how much there will be to do at that point. The game is simply fun. I find myself logging on to do something that would normally feel like grinding but it just doesn't with how they placed their systems.
Go figure, a team of 17 WoW devs making another big game, and its far from being a WoW clone.
The game is really well done and feels complete. But the few problems it does have are pretty overwhelming.
The PvP is terrible. With all the telegraphs and spell effects it's an absolute clusterfuck. You can't tell what's going on so it's spam your skills and run away at low health. It's probably the worst PvP I've played in an mmo.
The questing is enjoyable for me. I've always been a fan of the wow style, my only complaint is having to fight over spawns on some quests. There's a dominion quest where you have to shoot down a plane and the plane only comes through about once a minute. There had to be 25-30 people standing there just waiting.
The dungeons and adventures are just awesome. It's definitely the big selling point of the game.
If you're a pve gamer this one is great but if you like PvP, I'd stay away.
I can't say I am addicted to it like most players seem to be, I find it amusing though. This type of game caters to the disgruntle WoW player in my opinion or folks that want a clean start on a new mmo that has the WoW vanilla feel. At times it can get confusing when questing, but that's just me thinking to deep.
I rerolled a Warrior in WS and definitely enjoying it more than the Engineer I created during headstart, maybe this is the type of character I should have rolled from the beginning. I guess I will find out if I will sub next month, but at this point, I haven't gotten bitten by the addiction bug like most here.
This weekend I will have more time to endulge in WS and see if this is the type of game I want to continue in.
Bought the game, find questing super boring at early levels and just couldn't get into it. Did some paths quests are thought they were okay. Not a PvP person. Still want to make my money worth so can anyone tell me when the game gets better? About level 9 right now.
TLDR: I voted NO. Purely my opinion: Limited skills; didn't like the classes; combat is nothing special to me; soundfx are terrible (minor gripe); leveling was a wasted potential;
I didn't like the game at closed beta. I played for around 3 months together with a couple of friends with my buddy keys. I know it's not the full game, but my disappointment in my experience was enough for me to not play at launch (I've played the majority of AAA MMOs at beta and usually proceed to play at launch). I wanted to like this game so much, but it just didn't do it for me. I'm not closing my doors completely (that's silly in this genre with evolving games), but I simply chose not to jump into it immediately.
1. Limited Skillbar - I don't like the trend of MMOs having fewer and fewer available skills. The same goes for this one. It's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed having multiple abilities available at my disposal. I can enjoy playing the game as it is with its limited skillbar, but it's not something I prefer.
People can argue that realistically you only actually use a number of skills when raiding. That's a valid argument. However, for example back in before WoW:WOTLK (Vanilla/BC) - a healer can assign 1 heal spell on varying levels in his hotbar (Heal Level 1, Heal Level 2, Heal Level 3, etc.). The same spell is used, but at varying mana costs and healing outputs. That design allowed players to heal just the right amount at a lower mana cost at a time when mana management was crucial for prolonged encounters. That is just 1 spell among many - you could do that for all your spells. The degree of customization was excellent.
2. Classes - The classes didn't pique my interest. This is related to my dislike #1 above with the limited skills. This is highly subjective so I'll stop there.
3. Combat - It's fun, but nothing new to me. Action combat has been done by GW2, Tera, NWN, etc. with their own pros/cons. This one isn't any thing special. Telegraphs are fine in dungeons - I like it, but it's a little too messy in PVP.
4. Fluff - Personally, I'm netural to the art style. Graphics are good. The animation is also alright. The sound effects annoy me. The music is a mixed bag.
5. Difficulty - I never got to end game in CB (duh), but I like the degree of difficulty from what I've seen in streams.
6. Leveling - The leveling pace felt lazy. It's as if their instructions were to create as many quests as possible with no regards to the pacing. The questing involved felt even more boring than I'm normally used to (yes, even compared to Rift/FFXIV). Similarly, the paths also felt lazy. They felt nothing more than extra quests.
7. Humor - where's the humor and wit from all the ads?
I wish the game success and it's good that players have been receptive. It's just not for me at the moment.
I'm really liking it so far! I played beta...knew I liked it enough to buy the game....and so I stayed away on purpose. I didn't want to burn myself out too quickly. Well, I guess my plan worked. Everything is new and fresh, which is great...but it's also a little overwhelming. There is a TON to learn in this game, which is certainly not a bad thing.
Some things that are standing out to me already (Lvl 17)
1. There is just a ton to do. Every system seems pretty deep. The combat, the crafting, the housing etc. They are not just tacked on like they seem to be in some other MMO's. They are very intricate. Hours and hours will be spent on each.
2. The game world is really cool! While it might not be every ones cup of tea, I love the graphics/animations/style. The game looks good, and the amount of customization options you have are pretty incredible. Like I said...its almost overwhelming. Your gear, your mount, your house....all can be customized. Its going to be a lot of fun.
3. The difficulty. I tried my first adventure and got my ass handed to me multiple times. It was frustrating, but also good. I don't know my class well enough to handle adventures/dungeons yet. I will get there eventually. Some day I will get in on raiding. In other games I would feel like I was missing out on 1/2 the game if I couldn't immediately do those things...but Wildstar has so much going on, that I honestly feel like I can wait on some things and not be wasting my time.
Overall I know I will be sticking with Wildstar for at least a couple of months. It will take at least that long for me to feel like Ive tried out everything the game offers, and if they can really produce content at a quick pace, there will always be somthing to do.
I have a lvl 21 medic. So far I think that the game is well designed and yada yada. But for me, there just hasn't been that hook. Most of my friends are higher lvl than me and keep telling me that im just getting to the good stuff. But im also working a lot of hours and when I get home I also have a family to take care of first.
Ill keep plugging along for the time being. Although the last few nights I have come home I played a game of DOTA2 instead of WS. But we shall see.
Do people not know you can turn telegraphs off and only the ones you want? So if you dont want to see yours or your team mates attack telegraphs you can turn them off. You can still leave all buff telegraphs on even with attacks ones off so you can clean up the screen.
I was gonna pass on this game (at least at launch) but a couple of buddies talked me into giving it a try and so far I'm really enjoying most aspects of the game.
Classes feel unique, the path system is pretty cool and the game is simply easy to get into.
I was pretty burnt out on questing but for some reason I'm enjoying it in Wildstar. I'm also enjoying the PvP more than I thought I would. It's a little chaotic but I feel like I'm more engaged throughout the matches as opposed to other BG focused games like WoW.
I also find that throwing a little humor into the mix seems to make the entire experience a little more enjoyable for me.
At the end of the day, I'm having fun, simple as that. As someone who has been disappointed with most recent MMO's and was getting close to giving up on the genre altogether, Wildstar has been very refreshing.
Originally posted by Amjoco I'm eating a lot of crow when I say I love this game. I was predicting it would be the same thing and ESO would be my main game. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong. Wildstar has been a pure delight and I'm addicted to it!
I tip my hat to you Amjoco. Not because you are enjoying Wildstar, though the game is indeed enjoyable. But because of admitting to being an ESO "convertee" with all of this drama going on between the fans of both games. It goes to show that sometimes you need to actually get into a game other than beta to either to confirm or change one's preconceived notions about a game. That's why I bought ESO even after I played it in beta and got a character up to it's high 20's or low 30's (don't quite remember) before making a final call and hoping I would eat crow about that game. However, with ESO and Wildstar both charging a box price can make one hesitant to experiment with games to see if you will play them for the long haul.

Got a chance to play the game through a guest key. Didn't like it enough to play the whole 7 days. But I'm happy for everyone who does like it
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
I voted yes.
I reached level 50 last Friday so I will give my honest opinion.
Cons
- Questing, it could have more variety in it. It is noticeable that later levels some of their quests are...uninspired.
- Linear to a certain degree. Sure you could start in another zone but after those first two you have to do the same path that you did the last time.
- Few battlegrounds. Its a new game, but in terms of PvP content, it is quite limited. Though I wasn't expecting a ton.

glad to read all these honest opinions, without bs, trolling or fanboyism.
There is too much NO without whys though ! Please, take your time to give me your negative feedback as well
I'm getting excited, the feeling towards this game is so positive. I'm getting hyped for a game i had no interest in.
How meaningful, in a gameplay perspective, is the housing ? Does it have interesting mechanics ? some kind of progression, despite cosmetic looks ?
I voted yes...
Need i say why?
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I am enjoying the combat and after reading enough about the game, the questing is what i expected so it really doesn't bother me at this stage.
Don't know why, but it's the only MMO in the last 4 years that I can't stop playing.
take a break for dinner and what not, and can't wait to play again.
