I like VO as well but I think they might have gone too far. Not every voice needs to be unique in the game. I'm happy if they have a few voices and voice all the quests. But going to the lengths they did holds them back in many ways.
Also keeping the voices in house doesn't really detract from them. Warframe uses their community manager as "the lotus " She does a great job and is there to add more voice work whenever it's required. SWTOR would have some major obstacles to overcome if they ever wanted to add a new class and put it through the storyline.
Also....we can't add none basic speaking races because of the voice overs.... /poop on that.
Lots of people think they're a waste and a money sink, especially those that tend to just spacebar through them (which is their prerogative).
I think they'd work better, especially in a group situation where you have others rushing you, if you didn't have to just sit there all the way through in order to listen to them. Click on an npc, or enter a quest area, then go do your thing and have it play in the background. Wouldn't even break lore in a sci-fi mmo, just have a little holodroid pop up in the bottom right of your screen with the speakers face.
What's this obsession with cut scenes and voice overs?????? Complete waste of my time. Do I care about some crappy story when I click on a meaningless quest????? Ditch them or keep the space bar. Majority of us skip as we don't care.
