The game is what it is, a quest hub type themepark. Anyone who buys or tries the game expecting anything else will be disappointed. People who like that type of game will find a well made game with fewer bugs than most games released nowadays, class archetypes they will recognise from other games and a combat system that if different enough to be interesting.

How is it possible for anyone to buy this game and not know what it is about, really? Carbine has been crystal clear about what kind of game they were making, Wildstar is Themepark through and through and if you do not like that or are burned out on that, fine but don't come in whining about it. You knew this upfront and if you have somehow avoided all the information about the game before buying it, well sorry, then you are the only one to blame for buying it 'blindly.'
I also love how all games have to have something 'unique.' No, they don't, they need to be fun and really well polished. Most games with a 'unique' feature suck in almost every other department. Small example? TERA, innovative combat system but literally EVERTHING else was below expected standards (imho ofc). I don't want special features, I want a good MMO and almost all of them have been failing hard for the last 6/7 years by focussing on being special instead of being good.
This game does not need to fail, this game is not overhyped, this game is exactly what they said it would be, an upgraded WoW in space, and that it is 100%. If that's not your cup of tea, that's fine, but don't come in here saying it needs to burn and die, contrary to most other MMO's these guys delivered precisely that which they said they would, for better or for worse.

Made it to 16 here. I really really wanted to like the game but the whole Questing for progression schtick is too old for me to do any more. I remember when WoW released with this Quest to Level progression and thought it was brilliant but it's been 9 goshdamned years, hi9gh time a new progression model comes out.

Why do we have to resort to calling a game a wow clone? It's a mmo. All mmos have the same basic architecture. You kill stuff. You get stuff. It's a mmo clone. As is wow.
This is what happens when developers copy the same old mmo standard, quest hubs and dungeons. You feel like you have played the game before a gazillion times over and it gets boring real fast. No innovation = mmo disaster.
At 14 housing comes into play, that alone will make a difference, From then on the game ramps up the difficulty and the fun. By the time you're lvl 20 and do a dungeon, you'll know why this game is worth a sub. If you do a dungeon with a good group or friends, and you still don't like the game... then it's just not for you. But until you try that, I'd say you've missed out.
If you are a experianced MMORPG gamer then you already know that with many games the early levels often 1>10 or 1>20 give a introduction to the game for those who are new. So more then often these experiances may come over as being the same like every other MMO. But it is what happens when the game opens up and no that doesn't have to be at cap level. As we all can read it takes about 10 to 15 levels to get into more feature's of the game.
Not to say you need to like the game OP.
Personaly felt that the game was "too busy" on the eye's for me but as said before (other topics) can definitly see it's appeal with it's rich feature list but people need to take their time to get there. Unfortunaly many don't want to their take time. But if I would be playing Wildstar and made it too level 12 I already would know there is lots to look forward to.

You should have the option in wildstar of beginning at level 20 in my opinion -- it would allow the game to retain more players.
Unfortunately, devs are following the "Game starts at max level" mentality. If a game is not fun at level 1, then it isn't worth the price of a sub. Just my opinion though.
Made it to level 17 with a medic, and tried the housing and adventures. It is a great game, but to be honest I´m just not prepared to move on from WoW, especially with WOD around the corner and the many, many years invested in Azeroth. Also the friendships I´ve made from all those years is really hard to abandon, I mean, that is one of the main reasons I play WoW. If, for some reason, WOD fails to grab me, I will replay WildStar with a diferent mindset. Until then...

A couple hours of beta , I knew I didn't like this game. Nothing grabbed me. I don't get the attraction to the combat system. If I wanted "action combat" I would play an FPS. I am very happy I got to play without paying , no money wasted no love lost..TY Carbine.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. All I can say is that what you're describing is what it's like when it's time to move on. It's been like that with all of my other hobbies that I wouldn't say I lost interest in, but just don't have the desire to make a priority in my life anymore. Wildstar is a fantastic game, unfortunately or fortunately however you want to look at it, mmorpgs pc games and console games alike have seem to have run thier course. I revisit the hobbies I loved time to time, but when your level of intensity drops out, they just never live up to what they used to be. As gamers whom have had spurts of hardcore play, you know what I mean with respect to gaming. It comes down to hardcore or not. Wildstar is tailored to hardcore and your life, your responsibilities, your priorities, they don't allow you to put the time in it takes to get the most out of the game. Like I said the game is fantastic, it just doesn't fit into my life today. I would challenge you to go be hardcore in something else, some of us are fortunate enough to become immersed in our work, but challenge yourself to become immersed in something other than video games. People criticize gamers, but gaming can be a training ground for learning how to have an impeccable work ethic, when you're hardcore, you know what it takes, just apply those principles to other aspects in your life, think hardcore husband, wife, father, mother , son, daughter, neighbor, employee, boss, team mate, ..... You know what it takes to be impressive, just apply it in other areas. I have been told, "young man your ability to focus is unbelievable" , " you would make a great leader" , " thank you so much for your feedback" when I get complemented like that, I think about all the people I met in mmorpgs who are above and beyond what I am with respect to what people are saying.

I've been watching movies even longer than I've been playing MMOs... and a good movie enthralls me and makes 2 hours feel like 2 minutes. Same with a good single player game. Same with WoW, every time it releases an expansion - sometimes even a patch. I even fired up Project 1999, an old school Everquest server last night. I enjoyed my trip back to Norrath about 2x as much as Nexus, for nostalgia, if nothing else. It was exciting, walking from Felwithe to Kelethin again. Getting my ass handed to me by 2 level 1 mobs. All the things that made EQ great back in the day.
I'm not concerned about my ability to get excited - it can happen. I'm not owning all the responsibility here: I think Wildstar's missing something, and based on the posts in this thread, I'm not the only one who thinks that.
I'm just interested in hearing about what Wildstar has done that really resonates with its fans. I'm *especially* interested in hearing from people who love Wildstar but dislike WoW, because they feel like exactly the same game to me and I just wanna see if I'm missing the big picture here.
Why? These are games that have so many people in them, part of the fun was ALWAYS meeting people and playing with others.

Edit: If you are playing a theme park game, it will have quest hubs, that is how it's done in theme parks. (And apparently some sandbox games too) If you dislike this style of game the problem might be that you are trying to like something you don't like.

Raid Raid Raid, if you are into Raid its your game. everything else its okay pve, pvp, housing, but raid its where it shine.
side note: its an mmorpg, and all mmorpg have quest hub/quest... if u dont feel like doing quest anymore, maybe its time for a break from "mmorpg" game

Yeah I can't wait for Destinty, too bad it's not even announced on PC yet, while Wildstar is not on console, so it seems like these are two very different things you are trying to say are similar. Also, Destiny MAY be an "MMO" but it has a player limit of 3 in your party.

If they feel like exactly the same game to you, then you must play blindfolded... Both are cartoony looking MMO´s with quests, dungeons and PvP battlegrounds... thats where the similarities end...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Because it's the same except newer. Lvl 14 you get housing. Worth a look at even if you quit and never play again. But playing the game is pretty much the same as it's going to be and won't feel like anything new.
Me and two of my friends have been 50 for 2 days now, and we are all really enjoying it, we have had 12h+ marathons this weekend, we just can't get enough.
This game does not encourage puging if you ask me, so if you are averse to getting a guild or friends to play with, it can be a real pain to do adventures/dungeons, at all difficulties.
Grouping also speeds up the leveling experience. I leveled all the way to 50 as a duo, and not only were we ahead in xp compared to my solo toon at the same amount of completed content, we could also do all the elite quests and overall had a much more enjoyable ride (less downtime, faster quest completion, could rez each other etc).
I usually played solo in WoW, only raiding with my guild, never doing anything else with them, since there was just no real need.
In Wildstar, we want nothing more than to find a competent guild, and to actually do stuff with them, besides just raiding.
To me, the elder game is very focused on people who play together, pugs, not so much, thanks to the difficulty of the dungeons.
My guess is that a pugs won't get gold medals in vet dungeons for months, since it requires very few/no mistakes.
Leveling solo in this game is mostly like WoW, it's not until 20+ that enemies start to even be a challenge and from there on it ramps up in difficulty. Even though the challenge is welcome, the questing and progression is very WoW like.
It's not really until you start doing the first adventure (15) or first dungeons (20) that you realize what this game is about and the potential it holds.

I purchased this game on release to see what it was all about, and I think I managed to get to level 5 before stopping.
It's not that the game is bad. It's actually a really good themepark. They have out wowed wow imho.
It just didn't grab me, and the cupcake comments etc completely destroyed any shred of immersion.
