Be careful telling the op that its like WoW. If you go to the official forums you're finding a crap ton of people crying buckets of tears becuase of the things that are different from WoW. They want the game nerfed to bits, attunements removed and anything else that sets the game apart.

WildStar is the most full-featured MMO at release that I've ever seen. It's not bug-free, but the devs have been pretty straight forward with folks and the conversation has been two-way as long as I can remember. I think its worth the price, yes.

So when AJ gave 6/10 for TESO you were like "Who the fuck is AJ" and now you give a playthrough of AJ he did some 4 months before game launch. Yeah, your opinion is wack.

Definitely get a guest pass and try out the game. If you or anyone else would like to try the game PM me I have several. That said I've enjoyed my time in WS. I'm almost lvl 30 on my medic, with having all the other classes to lvl 10. I've mainly done pvp and adventures/dungeons, and because of that my quest line is still in the lvl 10 starting area. The game takes a lot of good things from across the genre and syncs them up nicely. You have a large amount of freedom with your character builds and just astatic customization in general.

Someone said the pvp was boring in an earlier post on this thread, and I disagree. each match in the temple is different and hectic and I always enjoy seeing my stats afterwards. When I haven't felt like doing pvp, I've q'ed for dungeons or adventures, and they've been a blast, and even though my groups have wiped so much, it rewarding when you win. Don't be turned off by the sub fee either. the CREDD system is out, and the rate for it is 3plat,50gold at the moment, which if you do get into the grove of the game you could grind out within your free month of the game

Have your played WoW? Then you've played WS.

Its a wow clone, and not a good one.

When I wake up, the real nightmare begins

I would look for a trial pass first, it's a shame you missed beta, however if your into a wow style game, you got wildstar.

The quests (missions) are grinding like every other mmo out there and mindless killing, you will like this style of game play.

The game to me looks like it's made to reach level cap asap and other mechanics start to kick in, I believe the developers are trying to experiment sandbox elements in a theme park setting with a massive world map that flows like wow did.

The game to me is pretty fun at times, but also has it moments where your saying, why am I playing this. I am just passing time in the game for now, hopefully it get's better like all the fans claim it to be, then again, maybe this game isn't for me, will see.

I believe it will carry a niche crowd of gamers like aion, tera, guild wars and rift in the long run.

Is it a WoW clone? Yes and No.

Yes because WoW originally took what was working in other MMOs and brought them all together under one roof, but better and more user friendly.

Wildstar too, takes what is working in other MMOs and brings them together like WoW did... that being said, the game is not WoW. Sure, it has stylized graphics which has proven to show staying power, it is a theme park, action oriented game, no tab targeting, customizable housing, etc. Where I feel Wildstar shines though is in its humor. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it is a breath of fresh air.

The game is fun, and has its challenges.

There is no way anyone is soloing world bosses...primes are not world bosses.

I gave my guest passes out today, but I would highly encourage people to check it out.

It really is solid and has a lot to offer whatever your interests. Solid gold sinks in housing too, and possibility of playing the markets with buy and sell orders. For whatever reason people were selling Omniplasm on the AH for a price lower than vendor sell prices... so I bought a couple hundred and sold them to an npc vendor for profit..

Anyway, hope you find a game worth playing, be it Wildstar or something else.

  • Is it a WoW clone?  Yes and no.

    Yes

-it is a "traditional" quest and dungeon/raid game like WoW copied and refined from EQ/Diablo.  WoW is just EQ munged with Diablo 2.

    - The way classes boil down into rotations is basically very WoW like

    -  the world looks very WoW-like

    No

-that abilities are all freely targeted telegraphs means ability usage is actually far more similar to City of Heroes than WoW

-the telegraphs system adds another dimension to positioning.  WS is not really a true action game, people are allowing themselves to get fooled into this idea, but it isn't.  However the telegraphs can have very novel shapes that are considerably more complex than other games, by explicitly drawing them out this allows special moves to be a bit more interesting.

-While the world looks like WoW WS does alot more to take advantage of the 3D nature of the environment than Vanilla WoW, with many opportunities to get special jumping abiltiies or an entire zone with reduced gravity.  Also sometimes lighting is very much taken advantage of.

In some respects wildstar has reminded more of the love child of WoW and CoH when it comes to playing your character with out superheroes and not having actual travel powers just have Combat Jump + hurdle.  Of course in CoH you couldn't see the telegraphs, you had to eyeball everything which was an interesting challenge, but like I said explicitly drawing the telegraphs allows for significantly, and I emphaisze that, different, varied and more complex shapes.

Content-wise its basically a WoW clone.

I tried playing this on a 7 day guest pass but I only made it to day 3. The game looks like a 10 year old cartoon. Ok, I can get past that if the game play is good. It isn't though. People talk about the combat and that it is skill based. Are you serious? Point forward and spam 3-6 abilities? That passes for skill? Stay out of the red stuff is about all you need to know. Sure it isn't always easy to actually do but the idea never changes.

The questing system is so boring I wanted to hit someone. It is so tedious to do half of these quests not because they are hard but because they are bugged or glitched or just plain annoying. What is worse is that it is more difficult to try and quest with someone than alone. You end up getting in each others way more than helping each other.

The spam from people wanting to sell me gold or power level me in some way is just crazy. Botting is pervasive as well. So many instances are screwed up people are resorting to glitches to advance their progression. No way I can see paying a box fee and a subscription for this in its current state. If they don't fix this and fast expect F2P in 2015. The game seems to be already well suited for that business model anyway.

Great game, hard to choose the right class because i love them all... now got 2x25 and 2x15 and 2x10

If you like action paced combat and themepark MMO´s, this is a must play...

And best part of it, it grows on you...

Just cancelled my ESO account today, i didnt touch the game anymore..

Solo gameplay is entertaining and group gameplay is challenging

The combat atmosphere feels a lot like older arcade games to me

But at its heart is just another themepark MMO, ....

Its a game that tries to entertain you

There is a lot of lore stories and humor to be enjoyed

And a nice crafting system that gives players a lot of freedom and choices..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

You really didn't play long enough to see the combat system in its prime. They ramp you up in the complexity of telegraph system. Some fight get down right hard as you try to get into positions. Yes botting and spammer are bad but they will fix it. Its easy enough to ignore them. Give the game a try and dont let forums decide for you.

I pity anyone who does not get a guest pass before buying this game.  It is just too much of a craps shoot it you simply buy it.  The only pro to just buying it is that you have the $$$ of the box as a sunk cost which might make you play through more pain before giving up, which might get you past the wildstar hump.

It looks okay, but I'm not going to pay for it. I'll wait for f2p conversion.
  • gostlygostly Member UncommonPosts: 134

I'm in the same boat as the OP, thinking about it but not sold on it just from watching streams and videos on youtube. The game looks interesting to say the least.

So I am asking for a guest pass. Please someone send me a guest key so I can try this game out.

It's an MMO, so there's quests. Most of them are pretty fun and will provide some laughs. It plays very similarly to WoW, with a more active combat system. On the surface it may seem like a level-to-raid game, and in some ways it is. However, this game is really what make it to be - there's lots of lore to discover, housing, paths, and crafting. It's a great game, it's right up there with WoW and GW2. You'll level fairly quick, usually a level a night for me.

If quests and raiding aren't your thing, this game may not be for you. If you want a good solid RPG, I'd say give it a shot.

I bought this game out of curiosity, just because I had read that is was somewhat challenging. My idea was to entertain myself a bit until Archeage's release. So far I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality, depth and amount of features and options. It's without doubt the most beefed-up and feature-rich themepark out there - there is nothing in the market that comes close to Wildstar.

It's a pleasure to find a themepark which such sense of an open world, where you don't have to follow a linear path of chores, variety is provided here, and one of the things that I find more pleasantly shocking is that sense of danger reminiscent of EQ - you have to pay attention here.

Combat in my opinion takes the best of the RPG world in terms of building up a character and the action world in terms of positioning - it's intense and visceral and never feels repetitive. Character development is pretty deep and rich, with lots of indicators and stats - another blink to the classic RPGs. Same for crafting, complex and relevant - crafters and crafting make an impact here.

Another thing that amazes me is how well developed is the lore, they have created an interesting and deep universe here, with its own personality. Then you have the sarcasm, the moral ambivalence, the dark humor, even some strong language and sexual references, as well as the veiled references to popular culture - don't let the cartoonish looks fool you, this an adult game make for and by adults. Speaking of who, the art style reminds me that of the classic Lucasarts adventures.

I could keep writing about the variety in terms of progression and play-style, the music (frontier-blues alongside Michael Nyman's style symphonies!), the rp friendly features, the strong social components, etc. Suffice to say this is the only themepark that I'd say it offers value for your money, the only one at the moment with true standing power - hey, not saying it's gonna sell gazillion of copies, but i'm pretty sure that it'll find its niche loyal public.

    I totally recommend it.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.

Shop around, you can pick up wildstar dirt cheap already, which should tell you everything you need to know.

It's one of the most underwhelming games of recent years, it's massively "ok", incredibly average and nothing more.

The word "generic" fits like a glove.

However, it is worth the box price IMO, but not the subs fee, not yet anyway.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

The open world is UTTERLY POINTLESS unless you like questing (nobody likes questing, shut up). There are a GRAND TOTAL of 2 BGs. Yeah, and they are both pretty bad. I haven't tried group PVE so maybe that's where this game shines. PVP is a joke though. I do like the combat system until more than 3 players start to partake in it. All in all, wait for the next big thing to actually innovate, Wildstar is a solid game but it's not going to be anything serious.

i've been playing since before before EQ .. and plays way to many mmo's, I can recommend this game.

Maybe the above guy is Dominion, that lot seem to have brooms up their *** and not the handle first.

But Exile is a blast, the open world is great fun, you can roam all over the shop and then think 'oh sht' after you stumble on creatures you REALLY didn't want to find and begin blasting your way 'hopefully' out of it ;)

when there's a bunch of other players also after the same mobs/quests then sure at first your a bit annoyed especially if it interferes with a challenge .. then you have fun and run around completing same quest as them and killing everything in sight and since they go after your kills that means theirs are fair game too :-)

Get a cd key from one of the sites as it's a bit cheaper (always nice to save money)

Major problem i've had with the game is deciding class/race deciding which faction was easy
