Fire firor and the the other guy, hire a new person who understands why people love the single player ES games and isn't hamstringed by an inability to be creative, and then do what Square Enix did for FF14:ARR.
something tells me there problem is shifting from retaining player to getting new players into the game. These changes aren't going to do that.
I tried ESO only in the beta. Played one weekend for the majority of the weekend. The thing that kept me from buying it at launch was the disconnect I felt. I felt just as I do in a city like Toronto, beside myself. So many people around you, yet so alone.
There was no connection I felt with my character. I didn't understand the whole 'class' system yet there is no class system. I felt the combat was very awkward. The beginning was very bland and did not capture me one bit.
The phasing confused me and frustrated me.
I had a bad taste in my mouth from then on, so I don't know how they can redeem themselves to someone like me as I think they have lost their chance to capture us.

It would be one thing if the gear were simply impressive in cosmetic ways, but there will be “more worthwhile” stats on as well.
I am still subbed and playing pretty regularly with my guild in spite of all of my gripes. There is a lot I like about ESO. But I've also put a lot of time into crafting and I absolutely hate gear treadmill games. If ESO becomes one of those which favor dungeon runners and raiders, I will walk and never look back.

Guess you will never play any MMO because that's pretty much what every MMO does. Kill stuff to gain XP.

ZZZzzz more nonsense.
yeah I don't recall having to kill 10 of anything...
Seriously considering ending my ESO account. Nice looking game but overall I feel really mislead by all the other reviews from other sites. There is NO balance to classes or abilities. Nightblades are the worst class in the game unless you make an all magic based build. Melee in any class is very limited. If you want to be effective you must use magic, especially in end game. I wanted to make a medium armor, duel wield nightblade who used daggers, boy was I disappointed. Sneaking is very limited in the game as well. If I wanted to play a game where only certain classes and builds worked, I would go back to WOW. The whole sales pitch for ESO was any class and any build.....on that they failed.
I loved the game 1 to 50. Why change pve when changes were requested by pvp players for problems in pvp content? If not for this I would probably still be playing as I like to level every class or sometimes different races to see what they're like.
I can put up with the less is more fun attitude of the game but it's like Molag Bal has final say over content.

Disagree 100%. ESO was a flawed game because it didn't focus on Dungeons, content and gear. The 3 BIGGEST things an MMO needs to be successful.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I quit the game because other that my level going up I wasn't getting anywhere. I was wearing the same gear, using the same skills, fighting the same way for levels on end. Players need to see progress, real tangible progress, in order to keep them interested.
If ESO fails, it won't be because it deserved to, it will be because the internet at large has decided its a thing to hate ESO.
Zenimax had missteps, but the questing is actually immersive. The advancement system full of choices, growth and flexibility. Simple but deep crafting system and a good foundation for a potentially awesome pvp system. It has one of the best UIs out there.

I agree, the quests are immersive.
As far as quests go, it's one of three games, that, in my opinion, have decent quests. The Secret World and early Lord of the Rings online being the other two.
My issue with the game is that I can't go out and explore and get "lost" in elaborate dungeons like other Elder Scrolls games. But coming to grips with that has allowed me to enjoy the game for what it is.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I quit before my first month was up, not due to the game play but the consistent bugs, ability's not working/ passive ability's suddenly dropping off, loss of speech from NPC's but the worst decision Zenimax had was not to have a EU server based in the EU, the lag was noticeable enough when fighting that there would be enough of a pause when you should be dodging etc that would normally end up with your character dead.
A real pity that without the problems i was facing with the combat side especially it was looking to be quite a decent MMO.

Rubbish. Games don't fail because of hate just for the sake of hating. They fail because they deserve to. If hate alone could kill a game WoW would have died a thousand times over by now.
Trend hating has nothing to do with the game itself. The haters typically keep right on playing and paying for the very game they supposedly have nothing but the utmost contempt for.

It's not Firor's fault. In fact in all the interviews leading up to release from as far back as a year and a half ago I felt Firor was confused and upset with the direction the studio heads were taking this game. I could tell something was off, and I know those guys wanted to make a DAoC successor but were forced to make a Themepark MMO.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Well that's part of the problem isn't it?
On one hand "IT'S AN ELDER SCROLLS GAME" and yet they want to make a DAoC successor.
The game was pulled in too many directions. My thoughts? If you want to make an Elder Scrolls game then make one that takes it's lead from the elder scrolls games.
If you want to make a DAoC successor then actually create a DAoC successor.
But I suppose this is an old argument.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I played for the first three weeks and then stopped because I was sick of abilities misfiring, laggy pvp, quest bugs, bots galore, and of course group syncing issues.
Started playing again last week and it's been a completely different experience. Combat is more responsive and tactile, lag is a non issue, I haven't seen a quest bug yet, zero bots, and the group syncing is smooth too.
The game has improved more since launch than I expected it to in the first six months. The new lighting tech and lootable environment are outstanding touches too. ZOS is on the ball, regardless of how rough the launch was, they're listening to fans and making changes and improvements weekly. And because it's an MMO, I'm looking at the horizon and not my feet, so I can see the forest for the trees. ESO is not going down without a fight and I bet a lot of the people here who are convinced the game was destined to fail will be resubscribing before Christmas.

I'm sorry, but this is such nonsense and shows and incredible lack of self-awareness. I sometimes love games that most others don't and vice-versa. I never try to rationalise this with absurd conspiracy theories, but recognise that sometimes my tastes are fairly particular.
I'd say "too little too late", but that statement implies there was something they could have done now that wouldn't have been too little at this point in time. There's no single patch that can redeem this failure of a game.
The only thing they could do to have a shot at getting back their initial investment is to get another investment and go the route of Final Fantasy 14. Apologize to the fans of the Elder Scrolls series, sympathize that this game is garbage and an unworthy successor that has done nothing but harm a brand name, and go back into development for another year or two.
Should they apologize because people have no idea between the difference of what is possible tech wise in a single player game compared to a MMORPG?
Or should they apologize that like every and any MMO ever developed there is not one MMORPG that didn't have bugs?
Besides not having bugs in a ES game would have made it less ES game :P
Personaly I have a hard time believing people on these forum who say they are ES players, maybe Skryrim was their only ES game ever which is the only reason some of the complaints can make sense to me. And also have a hard time actually believing those so called I have left posts. Since most complaints just seem copy/paste from older issue's.
Not saying ESO is issue free, I just don't experiance all those issue I mostly read about and the ones I do experiance are so minor, I know plenty of well known long ago released MMO still having plenty of the issue's people blamed ESO on having.
I agree that its main strength and what i thought set apart from you typical MMO was its story and world. The fact is people wanted to see something different and ESO is that its not your typical MMO in anyway and really offers more of that AAA RPG experience along with MMO features which at the time i thought that was a good thing but it looks like they just do not know what they want the MMO to be and are trying hard to be the best at both which is the wrong move since you clearly see how both sides of the MMO suffer due to this.
They need to focus first on what attracts people to ESO and thats the story and its world so basically its PvE then the rest. The truth is most people that are gonna play ESO or do like it do so for its story, world, and the AAA RPG experience it provides so at least work on improving and keeping that strong first so that you do not lose them people and then work on the rest in turn maybe attracting other types of players as well.
Considering the flaws i think this would be their best course of action and it would benefit the MMO in the long run. Also one thing to remember is that its strengths along with it being different is bringing over gamers that normally would not do MMOS and only play RPGS on consoles on their PC to actually play an MMO, something that is a good thing.
I canceled but am more than willing to resub after some changes are made. I absolutely loved the game and took my time but I was burnt out on quest grinding at VR4 I believe it was. Hope to see the game improve. If they can improve community and social features, it'll probably be enough for me to come back
