GW2, Rift or SWTOR

Hello all,

After deciding to hold off of WoW until the new xpac comes out, i was wondering which MMO would be best for me to kill some time.

I currently have these 3 games installed on my computer, and like them all, but I am having a hard time choosing which one to stick too for a while, and would like to know sooner or later before I invest too much time.

Basically, which of these 3 games have the best combat, endgame and largest player base? Really, these are the only 3 elements of a MMO that I pay attention to most. Everything else should be at least average to good.

Also, do these 3 games get monthly updates? I think GW2 has slowed down a bit, but not sure on that.

So in conclusion, of these 3 games, which one has the best combat, endgame and the largest playerbase, that the company actually cares a lot about their fans, and not like Blizzard? Its ok if the game with the best combat and endgame has a small player base, I just added that because a larger one is easier to find players to do stuff with.Thank you in advance.

PS: try and choose one that has longevity added to it as well, so I will not get bored within hours.

And sorry if this is in the wrong thread, the lf game thread no one pays attention too, so yeah....

GW2: very casual content, twitchy/ hybrid combat, not a great deal of endgame.

SWTOR: best levelling experience, traditional combat, not a great deal of endgame.

Rift: generic mmo, traditional combat, slow and slightly tedious levelling, raiding/ gear grind end game.

    I would choose SWTOR.

I never played GW2 but played the other two extensively, and between Rift and SW:TOR, I'd probably choose Rift. It probably has the smallest player base of the three, but you're only playing with the people on your server anyway, so that should be fine provided you pick a good server. They have a new expansion coming out this fall, and the game is free to play (SW:TOR is free to play also, but I think everyone will agree Rift's FTP model is much better than SW:TOR's).

These games are not the best out here, but I would say GW2 until WoW comes out. Also it has best graphics and gameplay. Rift is ok combat much like WoW but SWTOR I thought was so boring, and all that voice act wasn't all that great and stories were more or less standard. If you like the kotor games you will maybe be a bit dissapointed with SWTOR,but the pvp was fun and it takes awhile to get into the world. Rift is more like WoW in WoTLK exp with talent trees and easyness. GW2 combat isn't complex but the questing and leveling is always a fresh breath.

Seriously? Those are the only options you're considering, and only to wait for a WoW expansion?

Honestly I would say none of the above. Go get yourself a decent single player game or something.

    Where's the any key?

If you want someting just like WoW with very deep class building system but completely free then Rfit. But  if you want to go for very good story and a very good single player like experience then i will suggest swtor. You can play SWTOR without interacting with player or whatsoever, never doing any group content simply because it has very very nice storyline on total 8 classes. Rift is boring without communicating with others simply because there is no story there, only the game lore advancing on it's own without even letting you know that it has moved on; like WoW. So take your pick between these 2.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

If it's just for killing time I would go for SWTOR. Great story line while levelling, every class has it's own story. Good community. Played all 3 MMO's you mentioned, SWTOR is the only one I still come back to.

Single player games last me about a couple of days. Finish them, then just move on. Anyhow, thanks for the responses so far

If you like story and stuff like that with more traditional gameplay then Swtor is the one I would choose.

If you like something more like wow with traditional gameplay and end game raiding well simular to wow then Rift is your choose.

GW2 is the one I play so hard for me to tell you to choose the other two. GW2 action combat, Adding new content every two weeks and season 2 just started, great spvp and alot of zerging large scale pvp, dungeons aren't the same at all as wow since no healers and tanks (even if the exsist anyway), no endgame raiding except for fractals. Huge beautiful world to explore,

All three games are very good so it's a hard choice but if you love wow and want more but not the same then go Rift and it's free aswell.

...a couple of days? Either you're getting really bad games or you don't eat, sleep, poop, work or go to school.

If you already played these 3 I would say buy a new one. ESO has a really good leveling experience, but after that it falls short. Wildstar is another really good choice it might even replace WoW for you. I liked them both a lot. I just got so fed up with all the bugs in ESO that's why I ended up quitting it.

I could not recommend ESO, I re-subbed hoping the bugs had been fixed... they have not.

Wildstar is a good game, just not my cup of tea, but it is the better of the two.

Rift start off slow gets better higher level, as there many thing to do at max level to play around, world events, pvp even some say is bad or good, many people do it Ai, dungeons.

GW2 if never got to 80 yet good game to play untill hit 80 then go's down hill abit there. but good story line.

Swtor very good story line, very grindy untill pay there monthy, other then GW2 and rift no monthy needed to play well.

if this were the 3 you are choosing from, I say go with SWTOR. Sub for a month and play through a class story. time well spent imho.

Played all three,  SWTOR wins. Also, it has a lot of stuff to do at endgame as well.

I've had GW2 for a while and never got passed 20, that said I'm giving it another shot and really enjoying it (I have a much better rig now so im enjoying how pretty it looks n less lag)  I dunno what the endgame is like but im enjoying it so far!

Wow thanks for all the constructive comments! I have decided to stick with SWTOR for the leveling experience and the story. Going to choose GW2 or Rift after that, only thing thats holding me back on Rift is the path to endgame. Its just tedious, plus the queue times for dungeons are longer than LFR in WoW. Anyhow, thanks again, keep at it

Guild Wars 2 - pick up and put down MMO

You really don't have to play this very intensely to do all the content. The end game grind is geared towards people who want to look good.

From launch I played it a lot for a few months then stopped. After that I would hop on to check out the new content updates and if I didn't enjoy them I just kinda let them pass by.

After a decent break from the game I decided to look at the season 2 story arc - happening now as free content update with new (small) zone.

As far as I'm concerned GW2 has the best CONTENT STREAM out of those games. Compared to a lot of MMOs It's fairly impressive how much content they've released since launch.

How good the content is depends on your taste. At the moment there is a bit of a mystery going on and the characters and story have drawn me back into the game.

Worst thing about GW2 - bank space

SWTOR and Rift - I have no idea how often they update their game, I do know that SWTOR has released some good new content (pvp in space sounded really cool) but as for Rift I haven't heard too much (because I haven't been looking for the news)

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Queue time in rift go from 10 mins to 1 hr. as dps just time of day, unless your tank all ways get in faster then anything. lol

I you have all 3 installed, then GW2 is probably best to kill some time. I'll assume you bought GW2 already so expenses should be minimal. Megaserver technology so you'll never feel alone in the world. Multiple leveling paths with different races, so you can spend a good deal of time. Endgame gear is a bit of a grind, either crafting or running dungeons. After that there's little else to do but WvW or get new gear for their appearance or level another character race/class. Combat is a bit twitchy, you may or may not like it.

Living Story Season 2 should provide you with new stuff to do every couple of weeks. If you play almost 24/7 then that won't be enough to keep you hooked for more than a couple of months though.

SWTOR is a bit of a harsh leveling experience if you don't sub, but if you do sub then story driven leveling is great. Endgame is Meh though. Playerbase isn't too shabby. You can do all classes as a subscriber, might be something for a few months even if only one or two classes have a story worth playing IMO. Combat is pretty generic, but looks quite good. I like the lightsabre as a weapon and the SW universe looks good. HERO engine is the limiting factor here in terms of gameplay. If you can get over how robot-like and boxed in everything is in this game, and you like the SW universe, then why not?

RIFT, small player base but aimed towards Raids as endgame, so if you like that in WoW this could be the one for you. Linear leveling, smaller world than WoW, a bit better graphics than WoW, but very similar in terms of combat. You're classic fantasy MMO really. They try to be different from WoW, and there are differences, but if you're going to go back to WoW anyway, then you're probably better off trying something different for a while.
