This game has really blossomed since launch....

Its been about a week since I finally decided to resub (here is my previous thread http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/446/view/forums/thread/417006/Just-Resubbed-last-night-Where-do-I-start.html) and I am just stunned at how much this game has grown since I played last year.  Usually games start to decay a couple of months after launch or the publisher starts to pull money from it after initial box sale, but this game has just gotten better and better. I am probably even more addicted to it now than last year. I've been playing nonstop for the past week and I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface. After trying out ESO and WS for a month each and quitting, I thought I was done with the MMO genre forever. I tried out FFXIV again because I had some spare time one day, didnt really have high expectations. WOW was I surprised. So much stuff to do. So much complexity to gameplay elements other than questing/raiding/pvp.  SO MANY PEOPLE!! And here i thought this game would be dead after a year, let alone my server lol.

So happy I found this game again. Goodbye social life.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

I rredubbed last Friday, rerolled on Faerie server, got into a very friendly free company and totally agree. I never gave this game a fair shake before, but now I can't stop playing!

I don't count myself a FF fan, having never played a previous FF title. I played the original version of the game and absolutely hated the levee system and the horrid combat.  I did find the crafting interesting, however. Has this changed?  From what I understand the levee system for questing and combat are FF staples.  If this is the same I wouldn't bother trying it again.

dude, the entire game has changed. there are still leves but they're more intended for Dailey's. there's a new quest system, its more like a traditional mmo now

When you say orgi version do you mean 1.0 or 2.0?

I am going to go by that you mean 1.0 which was the abomination before realm reborn, a lot of people might argue against that but it was terrible.

The leve system in this game works more as an additional than as a staple. There is questing in game that will take you all the way to end game and beyond. How the leve system works now is more like a daily system, it helps level up alt jobs and crafting but that's about all.

Its not a Final fantasy staple since only final fantasy xiv uses it and A Realm Reborn is very different from version 1.0 and uses the leve system as a side thing to gain experience for alt classes/jobs.  I think final fantasy 11 uses something similar to it now too?  But every other Final Fantasy are single player games so does not require anything like that.

Yeah, there is a lot to do in this game now.  I made a few posts before that I didn't think it was worth a sub back when it launched (but still enjoyed it and saw tremendous promise, especially with the turnaround I saw the dev team pull on it's previous version).  Now it's worth me paying for two subs to help feed my addiction and play the gil-making game (in addition to everything else in it).

So much stuff has been added, quite a bit updates to systems, entirely new systems, many side quests and side things to do as well as multiple tiers of end game content for nearly every aspect.  More and more main storyline with each patch.  I've said it before, but I'm not even able to get a quarter of what I want done each time I log in since there's so much to do.  Waiting for the Rogue / Ninja class and Gold Saucer now.  Not to mention player housing in 2.3.8; chocobo raising has been fairly interesting as well.

They even work on the little things and I hear they have an immersion focused team.  New emotes with each patch, idle emotes, more dances, new ways to sit in chairs and benches and beds and a whole lot more.  Just them implementing the idle feature made the game seem even more immersive as a RPer as you see people in different stances as they idle or you can actually make your character move into such as opposed to typing it out.

Already have a Builder of the Realm and Provider of the Realm, so I'm making gil on the side with all there is to do with crafting and gathering and the economy / auction house.  That alone takes up a lot of time time on my daily goals, which is why I don't even touch the surface of what there is to do and have barely done anything major that was released in the last two patches.

Great Themepark ride that keeps on giving more and more -- huge relief from WoW and it's 12+ months of no content.  Was a little niffed earlier when a Hunt spawned right on top of me while gathering.  It was a level 20 zone since I was gathering a specific ingredient for crafting, so I was kind've one shot from not expecting to be attacked as a gathering class.  Haha.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Is there anyway to transfer a character from one account to a brand new one. My son is playing on my account and he has a high level toon and he will not let me have that account back. I really have no desire to start over.

    This ^^^^^^

    +1

I was just going to say something too lol. Been playing since FF 8 in 99' and only in FF XIV and ARR have I seen "levees".

Chocobos are staples. Cactuars, moogles, etc.

At the moment it looks like only server transfers and character re-do's are available. (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/help/option_service/)

Not currently, but the leveling rate has been smoothed out since release. It's taken me maybe 3 weeks of playing 1-2 hours a night to get to 44, and the journey has been one of the most fun experiences I have had in years in an MMO.

I never even liked Final Fantasy or anime in general but I took a chance and recently bought this game on a whim and I must say that I'm really liking it so far. Like the OP, I too tried ESO and WS and neither really clicked for me. They made me dread having to log in. With FFXIV, I'm actually excited about logging in. I know some of that is the proverbial new car smell, but that smell is lasting longer for me in this game than it has in others lately.

Only bad thing I can say that, as a new play starting with a fresh character, levels 1-15 take a while and involve a lot of currier quests. After 15, the entire game opens up. 1-15 are still fun enough, but FFXIV really hits its stride after.

Well, for one, each aspect of the game is so complex/time intensive that you probably won't have time to do/be good at everything. When i used to play the game 24/7 I was able to get my paladin and blacksmith jobs to be competitive at high level. Now I only have time to keep up with my paladin :(

Also, the game is very traditional in the sense that at early lvls (like below lvl 20) you dont get many skills and your character seems very weak. This gets better though, by max level depending on the class you will potentially have 3 hotbars full of skills.

Thanks for the replies will have to see if I can manage this and Wildstar. My generous son says he will craft anything I need so I need only concentrate on levelling.

Combat is slower than most mmos with this type of combat (tab target global cooldown style)
Desynthesis is a BRUTAL gear grind. I hope they don't do future systems like this. Demimateria prices are so high because of the massive gear sink involved. And the rewards are not really that amazing to warrant it imho.

Last few patches have just recycled old content and added more and more grind. Animus weapon novus weapon soldiery currency, mythology, and now alliance. Grind grind grind. Grind the trials, grind the coil grind bray for the millionths time. It's boring. The only reason I still play is the community and friends. Final fantasy has a tiny scope. The dungeons the zones the combat will never blow you away. It feels small and restricted and you can't walk in any direction without hitting an invisible wall. But you know what? None of that matters. It oozes character and the people who play it love it. Myself, I'm in two minds. In many ways it is the antithesis of what I want from an mmo but it has provided me, a jaded gamer with the best fun I had in a few years.

Play it, best MMO on the market. Others might not agree... but between you and I -leans in close- it really is.

It's a solid MMORPG no doubt, especially considering I'm not usually a big fan of "themeparks MMOs" and yet I find myself logging in every day.  I don't know how long I'll last personally, but I'm having fun. I've just gotten into Ultima Hard, Garuda EX and unlocked Crystal Tower, as well as Binding Coils 1, so I've got a lot of things left to keep me occupied for a while.

Why is the game so popular? Why is the game always full? Every server? [mod edit]

Look at all these people. This is not even a major hub.

I don't know. When I played there was like a half a second pause between between mashing keys and buttons due to the global cool down. So boring. I'll stick with Tekken. Sometimes when my party was fighting monsters to get exp we would have to stop for 30 seconds. That's SO inefficient. Another inconvenience was having to wait on people to walk back to the party after they died. So obviously the monsters are too hard.

UUUMMMmmmmm duh. Have you ever played an mmo? And you GCD goes down. Mine is 1 second. Soon I'll have it at .5 seconds. But you would know that if you really played.

And fyi, every mmo, when you die in the dungeon, you have to run back. Good thing FF XIV ARR put in the shortcut to get back to your party faster. But you played the game and knew that right? Or are you just trying to pick fights?

The least you could do is not make yourself look uneducated about a game you never played. At least don't lie and get your facts straight.

You can take a screen shot in any FPS and find that many people playing it too.
