It seems to have everything but the corpse runs.
Just a friendly heads up, it is called the Hammer's End. I am only level four (out of a possible 50 + a sort of AA system on top of that) but this game is quite old-school, and I mean that in a good way. The graphic style is good, but it is a small team making this so it is not AAA stuff, be warned. It features a large world with open world PvP on some servers (currently there is only a PvP server running). There are not many players though so I have only encountered extremely friendly ones so far but the danger is there.
There are no instances, which I absolutely love (I know others will not like this!). My impression is that this project is a labor of love for a small team and that they aren't compromising their vision with outside backing. Of course, that approach has good points and bad but in this case it seems to be working quite well. I have heard from players in game that the devs are planning to expand the world through massive underground dungeons as opposed to new continents as that would spread out the player base too much. Smart design decision, there are a lot of them in this game but I'll let you see for yourselves.
They have a short one day trial. It is worth checking out if you really want some old-school style MMORPG gaming. I am glad someone is still making these kind of games, I subbed.
Edit: Edited some spelling errors.

Sounds interesting. I will keep my eyes on this. Here is their website: The Hammer's End, for those interested.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.- FARGIN_WAR

Oops someone posted the link already .
Yep, I get that kind of vibe in game. Actually, it took me back to when I first started EQ 1 back in 2000 and was cruising around the Feerrott for the first time. Possible danger around every corner, free form gameplay and exploration if you so choose it.
MAGA
The sub cost is a concern I have as well. Ill check it out though if its good and has alot to it I wont mind the cost.
The game's been around for about a year now I think, it's pretty fun - I played for a while when it first released. I'm gonna download and try it again, see how it's progressed.
I was VERY surprised to see an Ad for the game on this site.
Why is this like EQ1 if the first bullet on their Features list is "Level to 50 using the quest system" ?
This is why games like these aren't made. Only broke people have the time to play them.
Remember, EQ 1 had quests too. But they weren't the driving force of the entire game like in most modern MMOs. I personally don't really do the quests much in this game. But that is just how I like to play. I prefer to socialize and explore, this game is good for that.
I don't understand that comment. I am far from broke and I play this in 10 minutes increments just fine.
Hmm I remember this review of this guy who used to talk a lot to the main dev.
"So I talked to the admin and told him that the trial is nowhere near long enough, so people don't even have the time to decide if they like the game enough to sub or not. He told me he had been considering this but 2 days later he answered with: 'My wife doesn't like the idea'"
Tells me all I need to know about the development and decisions behind this game.
His wife is likely one of the devs or at least involved with the project somehow and they did end up lengthening it. It was one hour at one point I believe. In my opinion the triple AAA MMO developers have been dropping the ball ever since WoW so I am delighted to see a small team doing something like this. It may be the only way it could happen.
This game will not be for everyone, and I understand that. I hope those with an early EQ 1 mindset have some fun with this, however .
Early EQ 1 PvP was awesome! I loved it around the time of Velious. And to answer your question, because EQ 1 today is not very much like how it was back in the day. It has a lot of instancing and is extremely top heavy. You can't have an early EQ 1 experience there, it has been around too long and changed too much.
Plus this is new, all the dungeons and combat interactions, the players. All new and the devs will hopefully stick to their vision intstead of what Sony did to EQ 1 post Velious.
Way to assume. Far from broke. But for a non-AA game to charge AA game prices off the bat makes a person hesitant. Only giving a 24 hour trial doesn't help either. Maybe 2 or 3 days would help give a better idea of how in-depth it is and if it's worth the cost. 24 hours doesn't really give much time to decide such things.
P.S. I paid $15 a month plus the expansion costs for EQ1 for 5 years pal.
Yeah, they really should lengthen it more.
The quests are very generic so far. Kill X amount of this, collect X amount of that, kill X mob.... if they would add some arching quests eventually it would be nice.
I DO like that their are rare spawns that pop and events, Also that it doesn't hand hold you with map GPS to everything. You have to explore to find some of the quest targets.
Anyone that is currently playing it know if their is an in-game tab to give feedback? Haven't played it very long to locate one if so.
I think there is an epic quest you can get later on, possibly like EQ 1 epic weapon quests. I don't really do the quests here because the quests in all games have been generic for ten years now so I'm just kind of done with that way of playing an MMO, so I can't really comment on that part.
I haven't seen a feedback button, sorry.
Well so far it's been the same pattern of killing 15 troublesome local enemies, a boss enemy, and collecting 10 of some sort of flowers. Then you are told to talk to so and so,, then talk to another so and so which starts a quest branch in another area that...you guessed it, repeats the same pattern with different enemies and flower types. This is at Level 15 now.
Definitely looks like it's worth checking out. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I may update this post later with my first impressions.
