I'm sorry but, I pretty strongly disagree with the reviewer here, the very way the review was written indicates a deliberate attempt to compare it to certain other titles and in so doing, reveal a prejudice in the mind of the reviewer, furthmore many features of the game are not mentioned by this reviewer, I strongly suspect they failed to play the game, and given they have omitted some of the coolest features of the game in their review
Innovation 3, so the fact there are dozens of interesting vehicles, grand prix races every day, and over half a dozen classes of mech ranging from arial and anti air to seige and assault and so on, is totally omitted.
The fact that every half an hour theres a nie dota style pvp battleground, where you control one of many mechs or giant creatures in battle which is pretty darn fun, isnt even mentioned. Nor is the easy dungean grouping options and many prompts to go to there, instead were subjected to oh I never felt the need to actually use the features of the game... who is this reviewer and why have they got a job they dont deserve?
It's fine to give a bad review but not if they failed to try or write about half the features of the game in their appraisal, it smacks of a lack of playtime from the reviewer, if your going to complaign do so about the features, some of your review sections are a literally uterrly ommiting any mention of anything relevant to that section, in my opinion this is bad writing by a bad reviewer, and a poor reflection on standards at MMORPG.
Reminds me of that eurogamers review of darkfall, the one which gave it 2 /10 and the devs found out the game reviewer logged in on his provided account less than 5 hours , 4 hours of which werent actually spent playing the game, you can tell when someones played a game is reviewing it and if they have not, this guy hasnt played the game.

Well as to innovation it should be zero as there is absolutely zip that is innovate about this game, everything is copied from other games. Sure there are fun aspects of it, but that only lasts a short time. Sounds like you did not invest much time in playing it either. The paywall is significant once you reach mid-level and never goes away. So the review is actually too high IMO. Should have been at best a 2 or a 1. The game is that bad and when combined with the significant expense needed to play it, it just means there are a ton of much better games out there.
So the reviewer was spot on giving it a low score. Perhaps you should take the time to play it some more before you fully understand the games failures.
I could have gotten past all those shortcomings and played the game for a while, since I do like Steampunk and this was one of the best games in that genre (which is not saying much).
But when I ran across the paywall, and found out how it was implemented, I uninstalled the game without thinking twice. The thing that was not mentioned in the review, is that even though you cannot use the item, it still takes inventory space. And the only way to add inventory space is to fork over cash.
I have nothing against spending money on a game, I have and will on other games. But what I am against is ending up paying way more than I would be forking out for a subscription game on a game that is supposed to be "free". Maybe if they had a cash-shop instead of this outright rip-off I would have considered it.
While Black Gold is not the best MMO in it's state right now I feel the need to clear up the huge misunderstanding on the loot system people are making.
First of all the the way the loot save system works is monster don't drop equipment outside dungeons/instances. Instead you get up to two free save capsules a day that randomly generate blue gear or higher that is within your level range and mostly useable. You can choose to open these capsules to obtain 1 guaranteed blue equipment and 1 random blue equipment, 1 purple and 1 random purple, or a purple crafting prototype. The loot assignment can even give you more than 2 equipment pieces. I've gotten 3 to 4 pieces sometimes. If you don't want the loot you have the option of crushing it into random gems for gear sockets.
It has nothing to do do with materials for crafting, trash loot for selling, or collection items that give mounts and other prizes. The only limiting factor is that before end game most set pieces are found in save capsules not dungeons/instances. Which in a way is a good thing because it gives the free player an actual marketable item and makes it very easy to trade 1 leather set piece for a cloth etc.
So let's discuss ways to get loot. Public dungeons, instances 6 runs a day, valor merchants from pvp honor points, Crafting. Public dungeons can be run as long as you want however they are open pvp. Various chests and bosses within the dungeon drop an uncapped amount of specialty items and equipment that is usually purple for bosses and green/blue for chests. A few hours staying alive in a pvp dungeon can afford you many riches and unique items.
Instances can be run 6 times a day per instance and if you achieve the SSS ranking in the instance you have the best chance of earning purple loots drops at the end of the instances, along with specialty items and even unique mounts. Blues are usually awarded per boss kill. Most instances have 3+ bosses so that's 60 chances per dungeon at rare loot + and 6 chances per dungeon at super loot +. That's a heck of a lot more of a chance at endgame shinies than your average raid week.
While pvp honor per day is capped the limit is basically 1 piece of end game purple level equipment a day in points. Among other useful items.
Lastly crafting can produce all the way up to level 40 purple items. You will more than likely gain these recipes as drops from trash within instances you are running or through prototyping. Once you have a blue/purple crafted you always have guaranteed loot as long as you have the materials. Some materials might I add needed from other crafters so that the crafting community is more symbiotic.
So you can either use the features or you can pay up and buy your way through them. I understand some people may not have the time. However, If you are pvp capable, skilled enough to SSS regularly or just have the time get your honor for the day you will be seeing an influx of loot. To say otherwise is a blatant lie. To say that you actually have to participate to earn your purples would be more accurate. Heck if you actually do the test surveys and feedback for the devs they have been giving out vouchers for stock purple equipment.
The game is struggling with it's immersion, faction balance, combat fluidity and story progression, but in all honesty who isn't at this stage of the game? It's at least a 5 with room to improve.
so basically, the reviewer/review is giving a huge misconception about the endgame loot system?
when i read the review, it makes it seem like i'll have to pay real money ALWAYS, in order to get end game loots
what you're describing is, you're limited to 1 or 2 pieces a day (from pve dungeons), if you want to get more, you'll have to pay monies
A score of zero would be too controversial... by giving it a four, it makes those games with an eight seem less good. If this game got a zero people would be demanding that those games with an eight get lowered to reflect their true quality.
4.0 seems to be the typical low score although this game did get a 1.4
Realistically, a game has to be outright failing in many categories to get anything lower than a 5. 10 implies the best game you've ever seen, so zero should imply that the game doesn't even exist.
Played the game in open beta for over a month, i found it to be a refreshing change to all mmorps who got me thinking that i am just not into gaming any more , it was addictive , rushing throught lvls to max (40 that now has turned to 45) only took a couple days and then all you did was pvp and rushing instances to upgrade gears . Unfortunatelly the community is not the best and the one faction( Isenhorst) has become too powerful in terms of gears and battle carriers for the other(Erandil) to fight to the point where they get bullied out of activities in daily bases , lost many players due to bugs and exploits and in the end even the difference in populations is too much of a gap closer . BGO devs even had to introduce ways of making pvp more balanced by incerting buffs and debuffs in pvp maps and even that barely works . I still wouldnt give this game a 4.0 though , its such a poor review. Sounds like someone didnt get payed for advertising !
I played this game on Erlandir to cap which was 40 at the time. The game does have problems, some of which the reviewer did a good job of pointing out. I also do not think the game gets a 4. I would give it a 7 and understand a 6 as well. The game does some things really well. The open world is beautiful and exploring it on mount is great. The pay model stinks though and the community is small and shrinking. the game will fail but it did get sort of a bad wrap. It's not as bad as this review makes it out to be.

No idea, but plenty deserved it and got much more.

Whilst I would say that this is a pretty accurate review of black gold, have to agree with this comment.
