Something is missing...what could it be...OH!

RaventreeRaventree Member Posts: 456

Okay, I am running around and doing stuff and the game looks and feels great, but it seems to be strangely missing something.  Oh, RIGHT, it is absolutely SILENT of player babble. There is no chat, no voices, no...anything.  I heard that Halo had something where you could hear nearby players talking or whatever, which seems to me what this game and Defiance should have had at launch. I should hear other players who are standing around talking or... something. Right now it feels so empty without players trolling and chatting and selling stuff.

If that were in there, this would be pretty close to what I was expecting. Anyone else getting that empty feeling without player noise in the background?

This is going to sound stupid most likely, but when I first got on the beta I immediately plugged my mic in expecting to hear people talk and not once the entire time did I hear anyone. I didn't play long but, serious question here, does this game even have voice chat yet? Was it like push to talk and I just failed to notice what button did it?

Join a clan, When I am playing with my fireteam we talk all the time. I do get your point, but I do not want to hear a bunch of randoms "trolling" as you say.

Yeah, I'm not looking to listen to trolling specifically, but like the other poster said, I was kind of expecting to hear people chatting on their mics or see some text scrolling around or something and I was kind of surprised it wasn't there.  Just seems weird to see people running around without any chatter.

    Not quite.

    Voice:

By design you can chat to people in your fire team; you don't hear "random chatter".

In most mmos there is no voice chat at all. You install a 3rd party app talk to your guild, raid group etc.

    Text:

    Destiny: none.

    Most mmos: various chat channels.

I suppose it could change - lot of people would like to see proximity chat for example

I think the game is supposed to have Group Voice Chat. Actually every mmo should have this.

As long as you were not in a party using the XBox or PS party apps, you would be able to voice chat with your other party members when running PvP or Grouped PvE content. (i.e., Devil's Lair)   Similarly, if you were in a Fireteam with your friends you would also be able to voice chat with your Fireteam.

The voice chat worked fine for both my wife and I; although, I only met one other person was actually using their mic for group content the entire beta.  I think I ran Devil's lair about 20 times too, but only met one person willing to use their mic.  I would have people who obviously could hear me because they would respond to my voice chat.  (i.e., Hey I died, can you get me up?  I'm behind you.)  My guess is that people may be more chatty in release.

But no... there is no random chatter and thank goodness.  I don't want to hear random people breathing into their mics or listening to blaring music as I walk past them in the open world.

When your with friends in a fireteam the game is great fun (and yes voice chat works perfectly grouped together there was just no public version), but i don't need children yelling am the best, your a newb BS! and swear words randomly cast about because kids thinks is funny.. or some other shit...

I feel game simply requires a text chat box and or some more mechanism's for finding groups and better clan/guild systems.

a lot of people are screaming for better social functions. It felt really weird in the tower and seeing someone look really badass and not being able to say "dude where did you find that?"..

the biggest issue with this game for me has been the lack of proximity voice, and even just a chat window in social.

you can talk on the mic with your fireteam (Destiny´s in game party/group). I personally dont want to log in and hear obnoxious people going nuts on my speakers or listening to loud music. A lot of people do that to troll. But if they ever add open mic in the world then i expect them to add a mute all button too....

EDIT: but i agree when i log in it feels dead silent. Something could be done to fix that, as long as there is a mute all option lol

i am sure they will be adding one eventually. Right now voice is only through fireteams. and honestly at times i rather not hear that little kid screaming in the mic...got enough of that on CoD and other mmos as well.

I really don't care to hear others, it's usually someone playing loud music in the background, mouth breathing. chip bag rustling, or stupid blabbering. As long as random players are just in proximity chat, then that's cool. I liked the ingame voice chat when my friend joined my fireteam, it when't from proximity then changed over to sound like talking through a headset when got further from each other.

What it's really missing is open world full loot PvP

Many other games like that already, we are past due for a solid PVE "mmo" shooter.

At times the game felt so anti social because everything is soloable.
