I think most people accept pay to progress faster, but there is a limit on what they accept (if you just can buy anything in the game for real money what is the point of playing it?) and certain games do it too far in most opinions.
A lot less accept it in games with monthly fees though, pay for boxes, monthly fees and then pay to progress as well, not great value for your money there.
We all know that devs needs to get in money some way but there is a limit to what most of of think it is worth to be competetive, that limit varies from player to player and few protest that F2P games sells XP pots but if they suddenly starts selling max level characters with good gear it starts taking away a lot of the game and messes up the game economy.
Because I don't give a shit how fast you or anyone else levels, that's why. I will get to wherever you are at my own pace. What you are doing means absolutely jack shit to me.
Pretty simple.

I think it harks back to the original MMO games, where you lived in a world and progressed based on your skill and time. If you saw someone with the Uber Sword of Doom, you knew that person could really play, because the USoD was hard to get. People lived in the MMO world, and tried to advance.
Today, MMO's are just games, not worlds, and just because a player has the USoD doesn't mean they know how to play at all. I think that is the source of the complaints.
For me, this started in earnest in 2004 with CoH: I want to invite a good player to the team, and want to rely on their advancements to decide. But with lots of power-leveling, it became impossible. Just because someone was a lvl 50 didn't mean a thing anymore. They might be good, and they might barely know how to play at all.

Did it occur to you that players might just have different skill levels? No probably not. And how does merely getting to a certain level mean that a player is good? Pretty flawed logic there I think, since leveling can pretty well be done by anyone with enough time.
And what is wrong with someone playing the game whose skill level might just not come close to your vaunted prowess?
Should they not be allowed to play the game?
Yea we should all be carrying the Uber sword of doom. It wouldn't be very Uber then, would it?

Exactly. Like everyone has the time to play 12 hours a day. I can't. This is why I pay for faster progress. I grind in the real world. Let my hard earned money pay for the server cost of the publisher/developer then give me shorter time to enjoy the game.
Originally posted by fardreamer the real question is, why don't I, the 24/7 hardcore mmo player get paid real cash by the working joe to provide him with the stuff he needs to progress? Now that would make sense.
I don't care if a game has this or not. From my experience a lot of the people that rush to end game are no longer playing after 1-2 months so what does it matter?
Sure some stick around, but those who take their time catch up and they are the ones who have learned how to play/level not rush/payed to level.
Would you pay to skip levels in Mass Effect? No you would
No i would not. And i do not. And i do not in MMO either. Other people do and that's their choice.
Why do we keep playing these MMOs that design their content around RMT via a "legit" feature?
Because it's just an option. As long as the game designed so that i have a legit option to obtain everything i need via reasonable in-game means (which means the game is not "P2W"), then I have the option to play it the way I want to play it - which is by "earning" my stuff in game. IF other people want to skip playing the game, that's option if there for them. Live and let live. If anything, they're helping fund further improvements in my game. So thanks.

In all likelyhood because he's part of that group, and feels these developers are intruding upon his "bragging rights".
I personally don't give a damn if someone decides to race right to the level cap, I'll be playing the game at my own pace (and without XP boosters too).
And then shake my head when they're complaining a week later that the game was too easy. That there is a lack of content. And all the other classic symptoms.

I also never understood people who use time as a excuse. To me time is NO excuse I have very limited to play games but I want to play games and not buy my way into some pixels. And if the experiance is indeed boring then I simply feel the game isn't right for. I really don't care JoeUnknown reaches cap level months before I do, aslong I am having fun I will meet JoeUnknown one day and be on the same level.
The only excuse I see fit is people lacking patients and want it all and want it now.
I'm also the type of gamer that avoids when a game I am playing has these XP weekends.

What's wrong with just playing the game at a slower pace? Why do you have to have the loot that takes 12 hours a day to get right away? It's got to a point where I'd seriously consider paying in a game just to slowdown the leveling process because these hyper achievement "I need all my LOOTZ right now!" types have totally made progression too stupidly fast.
Play games because the game itself is fun, not for virtual payment and stop competing with and worrying about what other people are doing. Unless you're talking about PVP or economy, MMOs should not even be competitive games.
The people who have no money at all (teenagers in non-rich families, people without jobs and so on) happily accept any game as long as it doesn't cost anything to start with. Whether it's pay2win or not is irrelevant for those people, as long as they can play the game for free, until the game makes it so hard for them to continue without paying money, that they switch to another free to play game.
Then there are people who have a lot of money to spend (kids of rich families, or people with a big income). They play those games, because they can afford to spend a lot on the game and then faceroll through the content.
People who want balanced games don't play MMORPGs anymore, since MMORPGs that are not pay2win have died out.

I think alot of people, back in the day, would have paid for things like leveling services and currency, if they had been allowed to by the devs.
This is nothing new, many people just didnt do it in older games for fear of being banned or getting cc info stolen.
Why?

Games are make-belief. Just create an illusion of uberness .. that is all is needed.
