Maybe it won't be necessary depending on how much control or power a dungeon lord has.
I'm definitely interested in seeing them pull it off. Would be a great alternative to more of the same games emerging.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
You really don't have dungeonmaster like-abilities in TSW do you? It's not because you have a similar setting that you're necessarily copying things. The "All the legends and myths are real" thing had also been done in other media quite a lot before TSW came out.
While I could see Shadow Realms being fun and while the setting interests me, I don't expect it to have great storytelling potential. Perhaps a hardcore roleplaying audience coming over from NWN will experience it that way, but the general LOLWTFOMGBBQ crowd of online gaming will probably just want to troll eachother as much as possible.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
They are making some deck builder game. Not a great first effort IMO. Oh well.
Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: the Stick of Truth and the Kickstarter phenomenon Pillars of Eternity, announced that they have entered into a long-term licensing partnership with Paizo Inc. to produce electronic games based on its popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game intellectual property.
Obsidian's first licensed product will be a tablet game based on the highly successful Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players. Players each have a unique character composed of a deck of cards and a set of stats. Characters have classes such as fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric, as well as numbers that define attributes such as strength, wisdom and charisma etc. Players will be able to customize their deck to better suit each individual's vision of their character.
"At Obsidian we have a long history of working with the greatest RPG franchises, and we're thrilled to get to play in the Pathfinder universe now," said CEO Feargus Urquhart. "We're huge fans and can't wait to bring what we do in the electronic gaming world to Pathfinder fans everywhere".
In the world of Pathfinder, players take on the role of brave adventurers fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil. The Pathfinder RPG is currently translated into multiple languages, with hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. The Pathfinder brand has also been licensed for comic book series, graphic novels, miniatures, plush toys, apparel, and is being developed into a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game.
"Obsidian is a video game developer at the top of its game", said Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens. "Being able to bring that type of experience and passion to Pathfinder can only mean great things, both for our loyal Pathfinder community and for all fans of great CRPG's."
Obsidian will be at Gen Con 2014 showing off an early prototype of the digital Pathfinder Adventure Card Game in the Paizo booth (#203) and in their own booth (#2151) featuring the first consumer hands on for Pillars of Eternity.

Why not? TSW has an absolutely fantastic setting. It's just the game part that kind of sucks. And Funcom isn't exactly brimming with the kind of money it needs to do TSW justice. So I'm pretty excited to hear that there's a contemporary fantasy title on the horizon coming from somebody with money to throw at it.
Sorry this game appears outright stupid. Seriously, having a Dungeon master placing NPC's is not challenging. While it might appear to work, it won't.
EA has seriously destroyed Bioware. Anything coming out of that shop lately has been crap and this seems to follow that trend.
I have stopped buying anything with the EA label on it, they have not had a decent game in eons.
Isn't this about bioware doing a shadow run remake ? that obsidian thing was from another post wasn't it....or are they related somehow ?
I agree.
NWN was the last even half-decent title from Bioware. After that they have made lots of these 'interactive cartoons', which barely qualify as games. And i used to like a lot their rpgs. Looks like someone in EA _thinks_ he knows better how to design a great rpg.. and bioware was like a king of all rpgs..
Games i'm playing right now...

Covenant of the Phoenix has a decent sized chapter in the alpha.

That is such awesome news Rob!
Please let them make a Neverwinter-style game set in the Golarian gameworld.
Or better yet a Skyrim-style game set in the Golarian gameworld.
So Rob why dont you do a RPG Rumors style of bi-monthly vlog/blog? I think I remember you saying you were old school D&D. I'd love to hear what in the rumor mill not just for MMO's but for PnP RPG to video game news. Who better than a PnP fan to bring us the news?
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
This is nothing more than what we already have and what developers claim every time they try to sell us their game.
We already have myth and stories and yes they go on for as long as players keep buying xpacs. This sounds more like an Arena.Net type marketing scheme, with their ongoing story claims.
BTW i only mildly have liked anything Bioware has done,Baldur's gate being the only thing i somewhat liked but is far now outdated.
This is also like EVERY game yet another attempt to corner every possible player by claiming story,PVE ,PVP modern and Fantasy ya ya heard it all before.
Not like i blame them,EVERY developer is going to spin their product as the next coming of age and the next best thing, that is their job.Good thing it is not our job as gamer's we just look for a finished product and something good to play.I at least don't buy into marketing and NEVER pay for pre orders,i wan t to see the product first, the same way i shop all the time in real life.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Don't you believe it. This will be a linear as hell game with more movies than you can shake a stick at. SWTOR is their first example of how to horribly try to marry open tabletop notions with a super restrictive theme park (and it has to be a theme park for the writers to be able to tell their story), this will be failure #2 (by failure m not in any way referring to the money that goes in the EA accounts, I'm talking about the design).
I'm not even going to call it laudable because before SWTOR came out they made a similar comparison to their conversation system and tabletop role-playing. lol what a farce. That would be like choosing from three responses you didn't make up or want, and then hoping you win a roll to get to say something that won't change anything in the game.
This will be a 4 man group MMO-lite with 1 man adding some drama via a toolbar of terror that won't be different from what you have seen thus far.
sounds more like a Secret World clone...
Oh yeah, because all of this works out "so well" cough cough Neverwinter cough cough, erhm, sorry I have a cough cough Secret World cough cough, bit of a cough today...
Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
highest rated MMO out there, guess BW wants a ppiece of the cake after SWTOR´s sad underperformance...

This is nothing like TSW other than the premise which has been done before TSW
This is exactly like Fable Legends 4 vs 1 coop with the 1 being the dungeon master

The only other game you compare this to is Evolve which is also a Team vs One Player who plays the monster and uses the environment except its a shooter.
This has the potential to be epic. The question is: Will it be epic? The Chosen ad campaign was already a pathetic version of what it could have been. I would hope they could pull this off like I imagine it could be done and I'll give it a shot. I just hope they have that one guy on the dev team who lets them know when an idea sucks bag and they listen to him. It's about time someone pulled their heads out and made a good game.
Basicly these kind of games will be feature poor mmo's or maybe we should call them f2p smo[rpg/rts/fps] (free to play (cashshop) small scale multiplay type of game)
the only reason for a developer to keep games expanding story wise is to keep giving incentive to buy more digital junk in their cashshop.
Sounds more like Evolve or L4D. 4vs1 competitive game.
Only thing "game master" will do is set traps and monsters.
Not build levels and story. So nothing like NWN
