It should never take this long for a competent development company to translate and port an already working MMO to the west!!

This is a horrible trend that greedy companies are exploiting to cash in on a hyped game. It will get worse as the greed grows and the worst part of it all is that the game quality isn't getting better.

And they aren't doing a great job either to be honest. For that hour I played so far, I ran into plenty NPC's that still talked Korean lol.

Let's face it! Appearently there are so many desperate People looking for the next holy grail in MMO gaming, that they keep throwing Money at TRION for these packs.

And as long as there are People that keep buying these packs, TRION isn't going to let this game go out of Beta testing any time soon.

They wait until the very last moment till the money stops coming in. Then they might release it.

It's exactly  the same kind of practices as PWE. Notorious for keeping their F2P games in "open" beta for ages.

Name the PWE games that had founder's give you access and the betas were time limited as well as required a key. I love your passion but it lacks any backing really ( the only such game you can actually say existed was Firefall but that was a mismanaged mess and at least it didn't launch in that state unlike FF XIV...Vanguard...ESO....)

Soon ALL companies are going to do this! And then what? When you end up not having a choice anymore.

Either pay for every step you do in a game or feck off.

Paying full Box price is already not enough anymore today to buy a single player game! No they give you a bare bones game today and then try to milk your wallet for DLC packages.

Paying a Box price, paying a monthly fee and expansion packs for an MMO isn't enough these days. No, what used to be free game updates in between expansions are now put in a Cash shop! On top of what you already paying.

And now we get to ArcheAge, that litterly try to rob your Money for every little action you want to do in the game. As that's what the Labor Point system is.

And don't you worry.... they will tweak it for Patrons too, so they have to spend even more Money too. They are already willing to pay a monthly sub fee. So they are willing to spend even more.

And seeing the amount of defenders of this Labor Point system..... I can almost not blame TRION for these cash grab practices! /shrug

And then you vote with your wallet and not pay.  Deal with reality, not what ifs.

I already do. TRION isn't getting a single dime from me.

Then please stop complaining about a paid beta that you do not need to pay for if you have patience.   Simply ignore it.  It will release and be free to play with an optional subscription.  I fail to see what is wrong with that.

If trion wanted to they could have just released the game with open beta like Russia did, and never actually release. But the game won't release in open beta as everything gets wiped. So no, your conspiracy theory doesn't work. After ctb4 there will be obt then headstart.

And passerby npcs will talk in korean even after release, they won't change them luckly enough. The english voiceovers are usually terribad in every game.

There are plenty of games that way --->

It's prove and you actually need to provide the proof otherwise "look, look, the patterns are all there!" does not count. Have fun though in your games just try and remember that even CCP isn't perfect take it from a 2011 protest leader ;).

Excuses? They are called preferences. Yes shockingly not everybody likes what you like.

I hate english voiceovers for npcs, it's not gamebreaking for me; but they still irritates me after hearing them 1k times. So the fact that they are keeping korean for passerby voice overs is a plus for me. That's the only thing not translated in the game; are you going to call it half asses just for that? Ok i guess, props to you. I'll enjoy the thousands of english tranlsated words and cutscenes.

Auction house access can be purchased with in game gold, the reasoning behind this is to deter botters and such from taking advantage of the AH.

There, see it now? Mr I block people who call me out ?

A classic case of taking something out of context.

Let me fix this for you.  Read the blue background in full and stop taking parts out to make it mean whatever you want it to.

Let me fix it for you: CE's for the past half-decade (at least) have also had digital versions some almost as bad in pricing as their physical versions. Once you strip the quantifiable elements off the top level founder's pack for AA (IE the store credits and the 3 months of sub, around 120 USD if my math isn't failing me) tell me how much money do you spend on the game and its actual collector's edition level in-game items? That's what I thought.

"I bought a lot of CEs of games,  However, I recall in most that were above the 100 dollar mark"

    as

"CE's for the past half-decade (at least)"

I never fucking said every CE.  Are you blind?

And you're missing the point utterly by not contemplating the other half of what I said namely that the CE elements of the all the founder's packs are cheaper, even with alpha access for the top level one, than any other digital CE I can recall except maybe STO if you'd want to count digital delux as a collector's edition. Get it? Even if you slash the one month off say ARR's collector's edition it still ends up being 15 USD more expensive than AA's for example.

I think the premise of these kinds of threads are inherently flawed. I think the negativity towards the pre-release sales models like this are based on two erroneous factors.

1.) Anyone paying for what is essentially Alpha access is also getting in-game items and game time for the cost of the package. While Alpha access is a driving force behind many of the purchases, it is not the sole value of buying one of the founder's packs.

2.) The "no such thing as a free lunch anymore" effect. There are a lot of people that want early access to MMO's under the guise of being testers. Lets be honest, for most of these people - finding bugs was an inconvenience and not a purpose or mission. The fallacy of "beta tests" has become two-fold. Most of the people testing weren't really there for testing so why not go ahead and make them consumers.

I think the new arrangement is much more honest in both regards, no one is pretending to be something they aren't. Consumers that want to play the game now, don't have to pretend to be testers, and the developers don't have to pretend like an "unfinished" game doesn't have value yet.

As many know, when joining a beta test for an mmorpg, the main focus should be on finding bugs and reporting those bugs in order for them to get fixed so that when the game launches everyone can enjoy the game with almost flawless functionality.

Allowing players to beta test a game is a cheap, quick way of finding out what problems your game might have and needs fixing BEFORE you sell the game, and in exchange, you allow eager impatient players to test out your game before launch.

Paying for the game should be the decision you take after you decide that you like the game, and to influence players to pay for the game for full basic functionality during a beta test is an unclassy, cheap move.

Granted, the founder's pack gets you exclusive items, and you must pay to have full functionality when the game launches anyway, though the fact still is that this is still a testing phase aimed at getting rid of problems.

I am not sure what message Trion sends across when it asks for money from players who are helping it get rid of bugs for free in exchange for playing the game (in this case, without full functionality)

just don't buy into the beta then, lol.  I am looking forward to trying this game out, but I have no desire to pay to test their game.  So, I wont.  I don't care  about trying the game until its OFFICIALLY  released.  After it comes out.  If it is worth my time and money, I will play it and spend some of my cash on it, if I think its worth it.

I think its crazy people paying for this sort of thing, but that's their decision and personally it doesn't affect my life one bit.

The problem is that many people have a severe lack of information before going to form an opinion or even judge. Archeage is out in Korea since ~ 2 years and it is also playable in Russia since quite a while. A lot of those people who bought founder packs already played in Korea, Russia or both and know the game and its mechanics. They don't pay for "testing the game for Trion" they pay for early access to all changes Trion makes to the western version to be prepared.

Archeage is different than most other games on the market right now. It is not about raiding to gear up so you can raid the next tier and then shelf your char until the next expansion hits, but it is a fight for resources and needs huge group efforts for high end crafting, building fleets of trade- and warships, building castles, claiming and holding land on the north continent, large trade runs with escorts, land and naval warfare, you name it. For all that you need quite deep planning in the economy and since some resources are scarce and hard to come by you also need to be ahead of the curve when you are into competitive guild fights.

From a single player perspective that might seem moot, but even as a single player you are far better off at launch when you have a general idea about the non-themepark game mechanics.

So many mad people. Did they make you play the beta? No

Did you test something. yes, you tested the F2P part of the game.

Are they making money of the Founders pack. yes, look at Steam sales for instace. No, I dont have links.

Is this game, good or bad. Depends on who you ask.

Is it sandbox. i think so. No, you cant make your own quest. yes, you can make your own adventures.

I paid $64 for ESO. hoping it would be the next game. it wasnt. I paid for FF14, it wanst the game for me. Face it. Im a gamer. I set aside MONEY for my hobby I think a lot of you guys either need a job, or a new hobby!

I paid 150 dollars to get into alpha.

I have got 150 dollars worth of entertainment already and I still get more for my money.

Trion got MONEY which is good for them.

People who do not want to pay a dime got a good deal too,  people like me are paying for a game for them.

Why would this make anyone mad I have no clue unless you are jealous and want to play but can't afford the 150.

If you are mad for another reason think about it a second or two, you still get your free game and suckers like me are paying for it, how could this not be a good deal for you too?

It's not just a video game thing. I'm seeing test potato chip flavors all over 7-11 now - and they cost money too.
