With the launch for the World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, a scant three months away, Blizzard is beginning to foment excitement as it begins the bridging lore from where the game is now to where it is going with Warlords. To that end, a new short story called "Hellscream" has been published on the community site that can be read there or downloaded into a PDF file.
Garrosh surveyed the Nagrand landscape carefully. No Warsong scouts had come into sight for days. Why would they? This hilltop was on the edge of the clan's territory, and in peacetime, there was little reason to patrol here. Raiding ogres would come from the west. Other orc clans would approach from the east. Even the hunting here was poor during this season, Garrosh remembered.
He had been very young the last time he had sat on this hilltop, and—
No. Garrosh had never sat on this hilltop or climbed these trees or run his fingers through these patches of grass as a child. This was a different world.

Read the Story.
This quote certainly suggests 'Worlds of Warcraft' and time travel .... which is possibly what Titan is being developed into .....
"And that is just the beginning," Kairoz said. He turned around, gesturing toward the sun dipping low on the Nagrand horizon. "First Azeroth. Then other worlds. All of them. As many as we need." The bronze dragon began to laugh. "We will be limited by nothing. Not even time. The possibilities are infinite. I will become infinite—"
.....not surprised but very interesting.
So you want to watch a 30 minute cut scene in game instead of playing? wow is story based game and for the sake of their story to be told and progressed in a more orderly and properly the have to write and publish "real" story like this one. game is not a proper storytelling method but even so they do it quite nicely in game. but something has to be done in a more orderly fashion and this short story is what it is.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
No, it should be a pre-expansion event (in game), which tells the story while the player(s) progress through the content. Although Blizzard seem to have forgotten what new content is. If I (and others) wanted to read a story, there's such things a book clubs. The last time I checked the WoW sub was not a book club membership, especially one that funded non-member access to basically advertise their next expansion.
sorry but those 5 pages of written Lore can be presented in game in a handful of generic quests..... i rather read it as a good story setting the waters for the expansion.
It takes 15 minutes to read and bridges a gap/answers some questions. If that requires a book club then I am sad for you.
Grape is just an F2P lover do not mind him.
It's unfortunate you see it that way. I'll take this content any way they deliver it. Problem with in-game is that it's not your toon, it's unrelated to your storyline. In fact, it pre-dates the expansion itself.
There are, maybe, a couple companies who go above and beyond to explain back story outside of the game itself. For the most part people don't care. However, any time that you get lore as deep and mature as WoW has become over time, there will be people who are actually invested in the story behind the story. It also provides context to the trailer, which is actually quite helpful and insightful.
Oh, also, it should be mentioned that they are doing a short miniseries detailing the back stories of some of the main characters in WoD called Lords of War. I think there is supposed to be 5 episodes in total. Granted, they're less than 10 minutes each, but show me an MMO that does more. There could be a couple who attempt to go into detail on their lore, outside the game, but it'd be difficult to find a handful I think.

^ precisely what he said. in cataclysm blizzard tried to tell a story within a game through in game questing, people hated it and said that it would have been better if that particular storyline were told in a book rather than in game. it felt totally unnecessary for in game inclusion. this short story would have been the same.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
I don't even play a F2P, or even subscribe to a F2P with that option, and avoid them. I'm a long term WoW player/raider who quit (like many) due to getting tired of the constant content drought between expansions.
I'm sure a 5 min read was worth over a years subscription. As I said this is cheap compared to what they should have been offering. Just maybe if the remaining subscribers weren't willing to simply accept anything other than true content, they'd actually get value for their subscription.
No. The story would not make sense if the context required the player to present. Literature and games are two different ways of telling a story and they are not equivalent to each other.
The story is what they make it to be.
Also like other areas of the game, it does not need to be the player playing their character. The issue here is that they've picked such an easy way to link MoP to WoD, instead of giving the game some actual content.
I can't disagree with you on their content releases. I've become accustomed to leaving for 6 months at a time whenever we get to the final bit of content from an expack. Sometimes I even leave in the middle of a release, since they stagger content way too long sometimes.
I'd much rather have them drip me bits of content on a more regular basis than letting it go so long between releases. Give me a new raid every other month and a new PvP map per quarter and fill in the other months with scenarios, etc.
They'll have to do something. Maybe they're hoping that the garrisons will tide people over during the droughts. I really think, though, that to remain as a subscription game, they've got to release content updates at a MORE rapid pace than even many F2P games. I mean people are paying to play, so they deserve content.
That being said, it doesn't mean building some back story into the game just so there is more content. I don't want fluff. I'll read this content any day over having to jammed awkwardly into the game.
